    Well, the length of this video got away from me. But what a complete abomination of an episode. From laughable scenes, to the ways which I even began to like....until that was swiftly destroyed. To the worst Fal Dara love triangle mess I've ever seen. By the time the Dragon Reborn was revealed I was well past caring about the absolute state of that reveal so it was left to make literally no impact. But now Rand is revealed as the dragon reborn, the question becomes, will they allow him to be? Or will he be hamstrung, tamed, and kept. With all of his actions never due to his own decisions, always undermined or "helped" by Moiraine, Egwene and Nynaeve. I will not be surprised if Rand only becomes responsible for a load of mistakes and bad things. While all the good deeds and prophecies are actually, just other people doing the work for him. How do you think they'll handle Rand as the dragon? Do you think they will finally let him become a main character?

      Man like... I like the show and it’s fun but... it’s not WoT
      I’m (unfortunately) comparing it to Witcher season 2 and it’s not even close imo
      Every time I like a new thing they’ve done they throw something I don’t like at me.
      Oh and on Rand... yeah. I get it’s supposed to be a mystery who the Dragon is but the MAIN CHARACTER feels like the most side character in the show.

      That whole "demand " thingy: pretty sure I was the first to question it.
      Also, Twitter of Time is pretty active. The WOT fandom as a whole is.
      Even I am. Doesn't mean I enjoyed the show. At all.
      Amazon doesn't give their numbers, and there's a good reason for it...
      This is so, so disingenuous.
      (Probably half of the watchers are watching out of interest and curiosity. Doesn't speak at all about their enjoyment of it. Or if they'll follow through with season 2...)

    The reason why Rand was crying in that conversation with Egwene, is because he's thinking about how terrible it is that the writers have subjected him to the horror of being with Egwene, and he can't do anything about it.

      It is so unbelieveably sad what Amazon did to this great fantasy saga. The story changes, the cast, the oversexualization, the strife for wokeness are just making me sick! 🤮 IMHO they have just burned the legacy of Robert Jordan to ashes. After watching season 3 I couldnt stand it any longer and quit the torture. Nevertheless, I have enjoyed your reviews very much...even though they have horrified me at the same time! Thank you very much for putting us thru this mental and emotional trauma! Somehow life will go on! 😉

    2:39:15 not only does it assassinate Agelmar's character, it downplays the danger of the Blight. It downplays the danger of being a borderlander. They're supposed to be fighting a war they know they can't win, the best case scenario is maintaining what they've got. Instead it looks like the Blight is an inconvenience on the border.

    • @disparutoo
      @disparutoo  3 роки тому +24

      And the Aes Sedai fought the dark one. Borderlanders respected and welcomed ANYONE who would join in their mission. As they knew who the enemy was. Aes Sedai were judged because they were Aes Sedai, nothing so frivolous as them being women. What's worse is there are even very good reasons for leaders to have scenes where leaders don't like Aes Sedai, just not Agelmar or this reason.
      But that wouldn't fit into the writer doing a whole seen about being annoyed because her boss interrupted here doing a meeting at work.

    Tv show runners need to remember the old saying: A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. AKA, write your adaptation for the audience you do have, not the one you think you can get.

    • @disparutoo
      @disparutoo  3 роки тому +20

      The issue is that only works if you have someone who is writing in order to get an audience, to make a profit. You need to only hire capitalists. When you hire someone who doesn't care about these things, then they instead use it not as an opportunity to make money, but to lecture and denigrate. And that takes priority for them.

    The main problem (and yeah, that's saying something) with the Blood Snow scene is that it was filmed to feature Tigraine and her GRRRL POWER virtue, when the book scene doesn't discuss any process if hers at all. She isn't even really Aiel and has only been pretending to be one for 5-6 years. So she doesn't even have the lifelong combat training a real Maiden has. No the real problem is that it was written to feature her and her Wonder Woman virtue and superhero ability, instead of who the book scene actually centers on, which is Tam Al'Thor.
    In the books, Tam has risen to the max rank allowed to a foreigner in the Illianer Companions, which are loosely modeled on the Foreign Legion. He does so because he is a smart, gifted leader, and oh yeah, a freaking Blademaster. This scene is about how he finds a defeated (not victorious but in labor) Tigraine , and he makes a momentous decision in the moment. He decides to take this baby and raise it as his own, and in doing so, he resigns from the Companions and puts away his sword and his entire soldiering career to become a farmer. The moment is about him tiring of war and death and choosing to foster life instead. It's a pivotal moment in his character and informs us of the kind of human being he has at least become.
    But no, that's not what Rafe thinks is important here. This is about how no man will stop this YASSS QUEEN from being supreme above all men.
    And forget the veil (shoufa) stuff - Tigraine also violated Aiel / Maiden honor code by fighting in an Aggressor war (not a necessity , like if she was attacked at home), while pregnant. Maidens typically give up the spear when they become pregnant. The books don't go into depth about it, but she basically is just so stubborn no one dares tell her no, so she gets her way. So she is not virtuous at all.
    It's all so effing stupid that it makes me spit.

    • @disparutoo
      @disparutoo  3 роки тому +15

      I couldn't remember much about her or her reasoning. There are several of the later books I'm VERY hazy on and only remember the general plot points of rather than explanations of side characters. My memory was basically just Tam found the baby and the woman was already dead, or he never even saw the woman, just found the baby in blankets.
      But if you think this is bad, dude, the next episode turns these themes up to 20.

    • @nineradvocate
      @nineradvocate 3 роки тому +9

      @@disparutoo I just read. I have effing had it. Rafe has murdered the source material. He has taken source material that was already extremely gender balanced, the characters, themes, and even the # of POV chapters, and he has decided that he needs to push it way past that into some kind of toxic feminity - it's not just that all the women are Mary Sues, it's that he has to denigrate, emasculate, and steal from the male characters to do it.
      It makes no sense to me. Why "fix" something that wasn't broken? This book series was all about gender equality and cooperation and was landmark for that. I loved it for that. It had some of the coolest female characters I had seen or read since Princess Leia in the original Trilogy. BTW, she was a great archetype... She was a fully realized character who didn't take crap from anyone but also showed compassion and perserverence. She was never a Mary Sue.
      The women in WoT the show are unbreakable and Uber powerful from day one because they cannot be shown to have any room for growth and improvement because they are all YASSSS QUEENS

      Nay bra. You dont have to give up the spear when you get preggers. You can still be a x maiden and the baby is given to someone else to raise. Which is a great honor coz they know that the car'a'carn will be born of a maiden. Thats why they gave Rand their honor and are his honor guard because he's the only child of a maiden known to then and returned to them.

He would likely use it as a way to make him give in and give up.
      Rafes already said hes making Rand an entirely different person with a different personality. So anythings on the cards. If you assume the men will be useless and fail at everything, while Nynaeve etc will do everything easily. That's the show.

      Technically we don't even know if they're making Rand the Dragon Reborn in truth.
      So far he's just a man who can channel, and even in the books at this stage Rand is still trying to deny himself as the Dragon Reborn. He doesn't accept it until he holds Callandor. A major sign of the Dragon being reborn is ONLY the Dragon Reborn can touch Callandor.
      Does anyone here think they WON'T have Rand racing to get Callandor, there's fighting everywhere, then just when you think he's going to get it, EGWENE lunges to save Rand because he can't save himself ever, she knocks him out of the way of some Balefire, and then SHE grasps the sword that isn't a sword, kills Ishamael for real this time cause Rand can't do anything, and is then proclaimed as the Dragon Reborn, the true savior of the world?
      I don't THINK they'll do that, I think they'll keep Rand as the Dragon but they'll make him a total bitch.
      But I can't say there's NO way they won't do that, which pisses me off.

    ...they TOTALLY BUNGLED the scene. It would be believable if she was put in that situation unexpectedly because her party was ambushed and she was forced to fight as last person sof the party. Her fighting would be somewhat believable if she went into labour cramps AFTER the fight, to be surprised by one more soldier whom decides to help instead of killing her.
    But no, the hack writers decided to ruin a good story. PREGGY SUE is now part of our reality.

Easy solution was another Aiel trying to defend her, fails, and she takes the final blow, veiled, and gets revenge on her attacker. Then Tam comes across the aftermath. It fits all the lore, you can do EXACTLY the same thing as this scene, and no bouncing baby fighting. This is why I think it's done badly deliberately, the solution MUST have been proposed to them already.

      I agree in the books I didn't really dislike Egwene or Nynaeve. In fact my least favourite scenes were Perrins, just because I felt they were a bit slow, not because of Perrin himself. And you can even get away with behaving a certain way if you have an excuse, you don't have time, you have bigger issues to deal with. But these 2 act horribly to everyone, then demand the other person apologise after they've treated the person badly while everyone tells the 2 how amazing they are. It's bizarre.

      I think there is a lot of similarities for sure. Although at least when it came to Star Wars it was an original story that was bad. I appreciate you hitting on the weird interpretive dance stuff they're having Moiraine doing constantly. You were exactly right about it being a crutch; there's literally a part in one of the books where some of the Aes Sedai are talking about being able to tell who taught who which weave based on the hand movements they use. I think it's especially strange that they had that scene with "Valda" talking about channelers not needing their hands and then Moiraine dances like this.... They've spent all this time making her a badass. Why would she handicap herself?

    • @disparutoo
      @disparutoo  3 роки тому +5

      From memory when they say crutch it's more that it aids in their concentration. So they CAN do it without the hands, but it's just easier not to. So I don't see a problem with Aes Sedai doing it generally when there is no storyline reason to make it a downside. I see it a lot like, I can talk without moving my hands, but the more enthusiastic or passionate I get while saying something, the more animated my hands get. Seems reasonable.
      BUT, when that scene had them bending around weirdly in slow motion like the one power itself was somehow stopping them? It was just bizarre, I don't know if they thought it looked better on screen? But that's a hard no. Especially Moiraines weird backwards bend to look at Nynaeve. That looked so out of place.
      I actually think it would look better if they showed the moving faster, so you can see that proficient skilled channelers can create the weaves faster and with less thought than newer channelers with less practice.
      But this would mean that you would have to admit than Nynaeve and Egwene can do nothing at this point in time because they haven't been trained and are not perfect. And they can't do that.

He doesn't even react properly to Loial saying he looks like an Aiel, because in the books this revelation that Tam and Kari aren't his parents, is a huge puzzling trauma for him due to how much he loves them as his parents, especially Tam (Kari having died early). It’s nothing like the show.

An evil parody of the rest of the world. I imagined the blight growing as more just, the taint spreading and twisting what was already there into a mutated version of itself.

    57:45 further to the shenanigans The Ways, we can disregard Moiraine's interpretative dance routine when she channels as the bs that it is, what I find completely disjointed is that The Ways were created for the Ogier by the Aes Sedai before The Breaking, as a thank you and a means for them to traverse great distances easily. The doors were activated by re-locating the trefoil leaf on the Waygate carvings.
    The Aes Sedai did not need The Ways themselves, as they all knew how to Travel. Why is it then that Moiraine is the only one able to open the doors, that she needs to channel to do so and Loial is seemingly only there to read the wayguides? The very species that The Ways were created FOR, is relegated to the status of a GPS, while Super Sayyin LGBT Moiraine does her Last Airbender impression every chance she gets. Bah!

Mat was the culmination of all of his life experiences. I think you can have periods of your life forgotten and it wont change your character, like recent memory. They would have to strip Mat's from his very young childhood.

      I don't like this Min hiding visions from people. Most of the time she doesn't even know what they meant herself, it's like oh I see a crown and a sword. Could mean anything. And Rand CLEARLY asks her about the Eye of the World. Now admittedly, this whole season has replaced "last battle" with "eye of the world" for some reason. Which I assume is because they wrote it to wrap up in case they only got 1 season.
      But my issue is, once you have someone who knows the literal factual future telling you you wont survive. You HAVE to end that character or destroy everytime prophecy is ever mentioned forever into the future. And obviously, they can't do that. And I think the "oh im just not going to tell you and keep you worried then when you come back and complain I'll say "well I never answered" seems like a cheap cop out to me. But I think that's where they'll go.

    To be fair to the show, Egwene really does think her shit does not stink, and that she's better than everyone, especially Rand. She's also not super loyal to him. She spends all her time with the Tinkers dancing with Aram and responding to his flirtation, laughing when he mocks Perrin and taking his side when he insults Perrin. Later on, when Egwene is getting annoyed at him because Mat says Min was staring at Rand, Perrin comes to Rand's rescue by mentioning Aram. Instead of apologizing, Egwene demands Rand not hold it against her just for dancing with some boy she will never see again. In the next book, she goes to the White Tower as a student and meets MIn, and another girl who also met Rand and got cut out of the show, because the writers are morons and she is awesome, and both of them ask about Rand, him being the one other person they know in common with Egwene, and Egwene thinks he is a monster, literally! She even has the nerve to complain OUT LOUD about Rand getting upset because she "danced a few dances with a nice boy" whereas Rand actually had the GALL to MEET other women and even TALK TO THEM. Never mind that both women spoke to Rand first, and that Rand did not flirt or dance or do anything romantic, except try to get away from both of them. Rand is completely innocent, but Egwene blames him, because she realizes from their conversations that both girls like him.
    In a future book, there is an incident where Rand & Egwene go with several other people to meet a group of barbarian witch doctors. Rand is the prophesied leader of the barbarians. They know this, because the barbarians found them, hailed Rand as their leader and started acting as his bodyguards and following his orders. At some point, Moiraine shows one of the barbarian girls a letter in Egwene's presence, saying that the witch-doctors wrote this letter to her, months in the past, correctly predicting the place she would be on a certain date. In the letter are orders they want Moiraine to relay to the girl, telling her the witch doctor will be waiting for her at a certain place. Meanwhile, Egwene had a dream where she talked to one of the witch doctors who told her she could teach Egwene to use dream magic, and if Egwene wanted to learn, she should come to her home. The witch doctor said that she would return home after she was done with her business in a certain place. The same place that she told Moiraine she would be waiting. So Egwene, hearing that Rand is going to the barbarian lands, decides to travel with him, since she is going to the same country. Moiraine & Lan tag along, because Dragon stuff. They go the place called Rxxxx, which is where the witch doctors told the girl to come. When they arrive, Moiraine tells Egwene that the witch doctors in their letter predicted the day of their arrival.
    At this point Egwene knows:
    1. Rand is important to the witch-doctors, because he is the leader of their people
    2. Her barbarian friend is of particular interest to the witch doctors, so much that they wrote a letter saying they are waiting for her at Rxxxx.
    3. They have magical ways of predicting things, and thought Moiraine is important enough to send a letter too, predicting the day Moiraine would arrive at Rxxxx
    4. They told Egwene they would look for her after they finished up at Rxxxx
    Rand, Moiraine and the barbarian girl are in the group with Egwene and the barbarian chief. Yet, when the chief goes up to the witch doctors and they greet him, they say "There is someone who came with you." To any rational person, you would assume they are talking about the member of their people, whom they summoned to this place, or the Aes Sedai they wrote a magical letter predicting her arrival at this place or their prophesied leader who must fulfill a prophecy in this place. The answer of course, is they are talking about Rand, whom they want to test for the prophecy.
    But Egwene thinks they are talking about her. She actually starts to get mad when they keep ignoring her and deal with all the more important people who are part of their people or in their prophecies or both.
    The two most in-character moments for Egwene on the show, are when she walks into the inn at the festival in Episode 1, with that look on her face like she is the queen of the Two Rivers, and when Siuan is talking to her and Nynaeve and talks about how strong Nynaeve is, and we see Egwene swelling with pride at the compliments, until Siuan says "Nynaeve" and she realizes it's not her.

At the same time i love how Jordan wrote her, i understand the necessity of her character. She was born to be a war time general and she got shit done i guess. And this is what is so grating about the show. Its so half assed. For so long it felt like this sort of future event that may never actually happen and it finally did

    I want to see that fight scene go more the way of my third labor where she's screaming, "GET OUT!" as she's fighting.

    In the book, they never even mention that one of the boys might be the dragon until basically the climax, and even then, it's more forcused on the fact that Rand can channel than anything else

    Never read a book of this series but Mat makes no sense to me. We first see him being kind, sensitive, tender, understanding, compassionate and a loving, care-taking brother and son. Yet somehow he has so much evil in him the darkness can feed off it. Instincts all good and decent, but then we are to believe he's actually something else. The two young girls, shown to be untrained, unlearned, annoying, selfish and moronic, yet we are continually told how especially wonderful and superior they are. All this show does is "show" one thing but "tell" us another. Ugh. It's called bad writing. And I want my girls to be more ACTUALLY smart, humble, intuitive, courageous, i.e., heroic than this.

      I fully expected them to have done it in that snow scene. When he found her and pointed the sword? I thought that was it, he would just push.

    I wonder why they never got around to mentioning that the first time Lan and Moraine met he threw her into a pond.

    On the Aiel viel thing, given who Rands mother actually was, she might not prioritise raising it in these moments as much as the rest of them would. This probably was moslty likely an oversight by the show but they will absolutely claim later on that this was entirely on purpose as a clue. Im calling it now

    I appreciate that your other reviews were less ballistic and more balanced because when it comes to this video you being mad actually brings weight to your point
