Thank you so much for one of my favourite movies and favourite gangster movie tribute. I'm sorry that you already have more than thousand requests, but if you didn't watch The Mission (1986) - check it. I think this movie is very appropriate for your kind of videos.
Man I haven't seen it yet, and I can tell. The blocking, framing, camera work, lighting, prod. design, etc. Damn it looks so good. Gonna watch it as soon as I can.
It's a bit of shame that "Casino" when it first came out got ripped for being too much like "Goodfellas". Yes, the same director and screenwriter along with Pesci and De Niro. That criticism still exists along with it being "too long". But, they're two completely different movies if you look closer.
Personally I didn't really see any significant similarities between the movies, besides maybe Pesci's characters and the post-event narration. Casino was more stylish and glamorous whereas Goodfellas was gritty and had a stronger story imo.
This movie has my single favorite shot in cinema and somehow it is not here despite being all of two seconds long. ( Pesci's car reflected in De Niro's lenses , the dust trail he leaves behind cleaving the reflection cleanly in two.
Reece Lunney same! To me it’s the best movie of the history after the godfather. And it makes me angry that people always talk about Goodfellas without mentioning or even knowing casino. Goodfellas is a masterpiece too but casino is just a level too high!!!
It’s still a bit romanticised. And also kinda stylised. Personally the movie which portrays the mob as “cold cunning violent psychopaths”, as you put it, would be Donnie Brasco
1:15 is my favorite shot of the movie. I love De Niro standing there under the flashing lights with that perfect expression. And I like how the camera kind of puts the viewer BELOW him as it closes in, as if he’s the boss, he’s on top.
I've always liked this more than Goodfellas. De Niro's acting blows out everyone's in the previous film. Pesci is more fleshed out while still being as sadistic. There is more shock. And this is stylistically far superior as everyone can see.
This brings up a strange feeling of nostalgia. And that feeling makes me want to watch it again, and it makes me appreciate the sheer beauty of cinema more. Thank you for making this beautiful video. So sad that the legends, Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci, Pacino are getting old. But I guess this is life. It’s making me feel a sad type of nostalgia, it’s hard to explain.
Can we hear a shout out please for the great Thelma Schoonmaker who edited Casino along with pretty much all of Scorcese's films? Casino is my favorite of his films and it just improves with repeated viewings. If I were asked to choose just one film to watch repeatedly for the rest of my life, it would be Casino.
For my money this is the best of 'The Beauty of' works you have done. Richardsons cinematography is sublime (Pesci and De Niro prowling in the car at night, the production design shots, De Niro with the marquee lights behind him, and so many others), Gimme Shelter is the perfect score for it (the timing of Sharon Stones collapse in the hall to Merry Clayton), the performers shine (Pesci's face in close-up in the film is over in a brief narrative moment but here, he looks monumental), and the combination of static and fluid compositions over and over. I watch this every once in a while, thanks so much for doing this.
Im 100% agree. I think that it's because is so well designed for the story. Maybe you think about it the first minutes, but after that, you are absolutely in their world.
So good, Marc. One of my all-time faves and a masterpiece of storytelling. It's a shame that it is still somewhat underrated; I think it's probably one of Scorsese's absolute best films in his catalogue.
A thousand likes and eight dislikes... I like the odds. Thanks for using Gimme Shelter, its only my favorite song of all time. Somebody needs to show Marty this video. P. S.: I have requests: 'Silence', also by Scorsese, 'Solaris' by Tarkovsky, and 'The Searchers' by Ford.
Mr. Scorsese`s thought & attention to detail is tops. He is a man who loves his work.....so it really isn`t work, it`s his life`s dream. a big thank you to Martin!
J'adore ce film mais ce Beauty Of qui plus est , est accompagné de la sublime musique " Gimme Shelter " des Stones est juste incroyable 😍 En tant que fan de Scorsese , des Rolling Stones et du cinéma en général , merci !
Goodfellas is a movie about fellas having good and bad times, a comedy, almost a comic. Casino is a drama, almost a horror movie. Is a movie for adults. For people who have been married and went trough a horrible divorce, a movie about adictions, about toxic patterns. About rage invading every corner of your time and body. There is not a single laugh in Casino.
Beautiful video . A incredible sofiscated film 's narrative, so original docu dramma , using a perfect cast , screenplay , always effective creative shots : movie of quality non less of Good Fellas . Movie that deserves much more positive feedback from the public .
I’m such a fan of your videos! Loved this movie, one of my favorites from Scorsese. Wish you’d added the shot where we see a car running in the desert in De Niro’s sunglasses though. Much love! ❤️
You should of used the gimme shelter version from the film it was amazing, anyone that’s not heard it give it a listen I think it was a live version or something. But honestly this song is one of best masterpieces I’ve ever listened to and it works amazing with this video. Good job man
Congrats for your videos, are amazing and sooo beautiful. Can you please make one of Manchester by the sea? Personally I really love the simplicity and beauty of this one ♡ (Sorry for my english. I'm still working in it hehe)

of the best youtube channels
great
Casino is probably one of the most stylized movies of Scorcese.
But not the most of Scorsese
@Jamshaid Ali I just said it because Flyman said scorcese and not scorsese hahahaha
Silence
Man I haven't seen it yet, and I can tell. The blocking, framing, camera work, lighting, prod. design, etc.
Damn it looks so good. Gonna watch it as soon as I can.
Casino IS one of the most stylized movies of ................................................................
Nobody looks cooler than De Niro while smoking lol. Gorgeous cinematography.
Definitely...
The man with no name?
Gotta give a shoutout to Cillian Murphy when he plays Tommy Shelby.
Hugo Serratos exactly
Top 3 for sure, although my favorite remains Jon Hamm as Don Draper
It's a bit of shame that "Casino" when it first came out got ripped for being too much like "Goodfellas". Yes, the same director and screenwriter along with Pesci and De Niro. That criticism still exists along with it being "too long". But, they're two completely different movies if you look closer.
Goodfellas is substance over style, Casino is style over substance. Former is 80's movie while latter is 90's movie.
FlymanMS No, both are 90s movies. Goodfellas 1990, Casino 1995. Goodfellas may have been filmed in 89, but it was released in 90, so it’s a 90s film.
@@ryangreene2159 I mean the way they are filmed feel different to me, hence arbitrary "certain decade's movie"
@@FlymanMS yeah, I felt the same
Personally I didn't really see any significant similarities between the movies, besides maybe Pesci's characters and the post-event narration. Casino was more stylish and glamorous whereas Goodfellas was gritty and had a stronger story imo.
De Niro and Pesci on a Martin Scorsesse screen is just violent poetry
Martin Scorsese + Rolling Stones = masterpiece
Martin Scorsese + Irish = Wonderful
DON'T 4 GET THE DEPARTED
Surprised you didn’t include the shot of the car flying through the desert reflected in De Niro’s shades. Still a great video
I think that shot was even parodied in Simpsons.
Your profile picture is funny, I see you are a man of culture as well
That was my favourite shot
This movie has my single favorite shot in cinema and somehow it is not here despite being all of two seconds long. ( Pesci's car reflected in De Niro's lenses , the dust trail he leaves behind cleaving the reflection cleanly in two.
I was just about to comment this myself, one of the greatest shots I have ever seen.
Reece Lunney me too!!!! This shot is wonderful!!!!!It’s a shame that it’s not on the video.
purple pachiderme tbh it’s a shame this movie is not very known, one of the greatest in my opinion.
Reece Lunney same! To me it’s the best movie of the history after the godfather. And it makes me angry that people always talk about Goodfellas without mentioning or even knowing casino. Goodfellas is a masterpiece too but casino is just a level too high!!!
purple pachiderme 100% casino is absolutely beautiful
The shots at 0:44 and 1:14 are the reason cinema is such a pure art form.
I wholeheartedly agree
And 1.42 - 1.45
I love how Martin Scorsese showed the mafia the way it really is not the romanticized versions of a gangster but cold cunning violent psychopaths
I love casino, but I never actually realized how meticulously crafted the cinematography is!
Just saw this movie this week. One of Scorsese's best, and that's saying something.
Something what?
Agreed! You see how he could make Wolf of Wall Street years later
@@evanward3964 exactly. same style of editing
The King Of Comedy is a must watch as well
Probably the best gangster movie ever with Goodfellas and Chinatown(the Godfather trilogy apart). One of your best videos. Simply fantastic.
Carlito's Way is way better than Casino in my opinion.
@@Chamila101 oh sorry, I forgot it😅. For me, they are on the same level but that's only my opinion.
Once Upon a Time in America
Chinatown belongs to noir genre
Haha Chinatown isn't a gangster flick thoe
I've always liked this more than Goodfellas. De Niro's acting blows out everyone's in the previous film. Pesci is more fleshed out while still being as sadistic. There is more shock. And this is stylistically far superior as everyone can see.

About time you used the Rolling Stones
Gimme Shelter
No surprise there, Gimme Shelter plays 3 times throughout the film
Mis poderosísimos Rolling Stones
I feel like I'm in the minority when I say Casino is Scorsese's best movie. I loved every second of its 3 hour runtime
Funny how a 3 hour movie can feel like a 2 hour movie.
Taxi driver imo is his absolute best
@@PolishGod1234 For me Goodfellas is his best.
I'll gladly take all 3 of the above movies for the 7+ hours' runtime, Alex
I thought it was better than Goodfellas then and I think it’s better than Goodfellas now.
1:14 That's shot right there with the camera moving towards De Niro is just absolutely badass af 😁
The Camera work in this film is some of my favourite
The exploding car intro is one of the best ever movie intros ever...

As a film, I prefer Goodfellas but the cinematography of Casino is just perfect

It's really great, to pick "Gimme Shelter" as the Music.
Casino is such a great movie
Best thing about casino is the lighting, so operatic as it creates an aura of intensity. Light is character in its own in this movie.
The power of cinematography. Even the colors speak volumes.
Would like to see The Beauty of Silence
Martin Scorsese Underrated movie
welp they just made a vid about it good job
I love that movie
0:41 gets me every time
I forgot how utterly satisfying to watch Casino. One of the best visual movies ever

One of my favorites, the chemistry between the actors, the cinematography. It all works beautifully.
The cinematography doesn't really stand out in Scorcese films, but when you look at it its amazing
You must not watch many Scorcese films then like Silence, Hugo, or even Last Temptation
Im 100% agree. I think that it's because is so well designed for the story. Maybe you think about it the first minutes, but after that, you are absolutely in their world.

So good!
It's pretty cool that the first 3 shots you show are establishing shots of the 3 main characters, shows you put thought and effort into it.
My Favorite Character portrayed by Robert De Niro after his role as Travis Bickle.
Everyone is smoking and there isn't a speck of dust. Props to whomever cleaned all those windows, mirrors, glasses, lamps and tables.
My 3rd favorite movie of all time and my favorite Scorsese movie. Merci beaucoup for the beautiful content!

Any movie with Robert De Niro is already perfection
Only problem is that it's 3 hours... Too short
My favorite Scorsese, never tired of it.
