Good job but always check the machine shops work by placing the crankshaft in dry with plaster gauge and check your clearances then pull it back out and lube it. End play is also very important.👍
I was always told that lubing the threads can affect the torque due to less friction than what would have been tested when the torque specifications were originally decided.
That I am not sure of, if I am not mistaken, the book or service manual I have says to lube just the threads and not to dip the bolts into oil. Probably for the reason you mentioned. But I’ll double check the service manual when I get back. I would hate to give the wrong information.
No platigauge to check first. Is it something were you've had the experience these parts are always on point or do you have a tip/trick that helps you know it's good?
The engine block just came back from the machine shop. They line bore, check the liner protrusion and cut for bushings if needed. They also checked and polished the crankshaft. I trust their work. But it doesn’t hurt to use a gauge. In my experience the parts have been on point.
what did the full rebuild cost when you were done...line boaring eh..good job..i heard the bearing failures are high on the rebuilds but then i found out some of the bearing sets are not mached from the same company...and of course nobody ever take the time to line bore it...I bet your engine will last a million smiles..
You are looking at around $35K with labor Using original parts from Detroit, being able to use the same crankshaft and a few other components will save money.
Once you remove the oil pan and oil pump. You can rotate the engine to the desired piston (connecting rod) you want to work on. Remove the cap and replace the bearing. Remove the cap, push the connecting rod upwards. Slide the bearing out. Install the new upper bearing (add lube). Install the lower connecting rod cap with the bearing (add lube) the same way it was removed (very important). The cap is specific and must be installed the same way it was removed. Look at the side, you will see numbers. Torque to spec, this is most critical. Once you are done. Rotate the engine to make sure there is no binding and proceed from there.

Hi Pedro I liked what I see, it looks like you know what you’re doing, one question, how much are we talking about doing this to my truck I got water in the oil and I want to know how much it would cost me to do this to my truck.
You would have to pressurize the coolant and see which liner or liners are leaking coolant. This requires draining the oil, removing the oil pan so when the system is pressurized you can hopefully see which one is bad. What year is the truck?
To completely tear it down to the block, have all the machine work done, parts (inframe kit, cylinder head and injectors) then add labor. You are looking at around $35K to $40K If you add the crankshaft, turbo and fuel pump then the cost will increase $7K These things get ridiculously expensive.
Are you using new bolts on the main caps? I've heard that if they need to be tightened to a certain degree, you should use new bolts because they stretch?
Mine was just rebuilt, when they started it said at idle sounded fine, when they gave it some fuel it made a squealing/squeaky sound?? They found #1 upper/lower bearing scored replaced it tried again same noise- tearing it back down tomorrow ~ ideas??
Prime the oil system correctly, try pushing about 3 gallons of motor oil. That oil is addition to the 10 gallons you are adding. Also, the oil filter, soak it with motor oil before installing. Check to make sure you are torquing the bearings correctly and evenly. So do a little on the left then to the right and so on. Use assembly lube to help. Once you are done, rotate the engine a few times. This will help to make sure it rotates freely without any binding or catching.
At 700K miles, I would recommend you consider a rebuild. If you just consider replacing the 1 liner, you have to ask yourself what are the conditions of other liners? Are you going to pull the others out for inspection? Then you are going to pay labor on all that. Try pricing out the cost for just the one liner, parts and labor. Then try pricing out the cost for the rest of the liners. See what the difference will be.
All good questions, when you lubricate, you install main bearings or rod bearings with some kind of assembly lube. There are many to choose from. Are you planning to change your main or rod bearings? Are you talking about an engine inframe or overhaul (rebuild). An over haul should last the same as a new engine depending on maintenance and other factors. Engines are expected to last 1,000,000 miles.
You can remove and reinstall them if your inspecting and they are within spec. But I recommend replacing them once they are removed. They are a one and done.
I don’t see why you can’t, it would require MCM programming and a harness. So that would mean access to schematics. The engine will do the job no matter if you have manual transmission or automatic.

The main bearings yes, they can be replaced inframe. The crankshaft, I don’t see how it can me done. If the crankshaft seized, then you have to tear it down and have the block line bored so it can be true and straight.

I think you are in great shape, the only thing that comes to mind would be the to service the oil suction module and the o-rings on the tubes and just make sure to stay on top of your oil changes and you should easily hit 1 million miles. I have a few customer that have 1.1, 1.2 million miles on an original engine and still going, so it is possible.
