I'm also a male nurse, NICU is my area. I'm also a veteran and trying to transition to farming with prn nursing in the side. How has the past two years been?
@Steven Thompson at least where i am fro. If you make a certi. amout of money selling vegatbles or just anything you need to report it or something im mot an expert. And even if taxes are theft its still the law sadly
It sounds like a family effort. Like the storage, warehouse, equipment, ect.. you are a hard working man who is making the place happen but also a very lucky man to have such a great base to start with. Looks like tomatoes can be a great business! Im very jealous
Absolutely subscribed!!! I’m 22 and have been dying to get into farming since I was 16, I love plants more than anything, idky 😂 I just love plants. it’s hard for young people to get into farming unless you where born into it. I finally got some land in Oklahoma and am gonna start growing and see how it goes
I've never had good tomatoes in the usa always to wattery imo. Only tomatoes I like are the ones that people get seeds from Belarus and plant them in their back yards, much more solid and flavorful.
We got our high tunnel through a grant too, but hurricane winds came through and ripped it to shreds a few years later. in 2019, we re-built it and used it for my wedding reception before getting it replanted in the fall. :) Thank you so much for your practical wisdom. We're going to try and sell tomato plants this year.
Like most younger business people they completely forget to include cost. Labor is your number one cost. I can guarantee you don't grow your tomatoes for 20-30 cents a pound. I love the channel.
High brix levels, sealed indoor/greenhouse with controlled environment, and there's usually organic insect and bug spray, you can also get natural predators for whatever you're trying to get rid of.
Excellent channel. Lol, I sell + - 40 lbs every saturday in front of my house that I grow all year around. 5 bucks per pound...sell out in 30 minutes Extra cash 😁😁
I just started my first garden this year and its going very well so far here in to july. Mostly tomatoes some cucumbers and peppers. But i love growing tomatoes id love to somehow make a business like you have going. This first garden was a good start just 20 tomato plants purple cherokees, big boys, and some cherry tomatoes.
Was totally thinking of doin this actually hence me finding ur vid. Ima use san marzanos and a few others that are indeterminate..theyll grow all spring thru fall!
the people probably want sweet corn too! especially this time of the year! used to see these stands on the sides of the road farmers sold them direct to people driving but you have to find a good location that cops or state highway workers wont kick you off
I am trying to get into farming now, I am actually a critical care nurse and the pandemic has taken its toll on me, looking for a a nice piece of land to start my very own farm. I have so many questions haha and this videos definitely helps thank you!
Starting my own small farm this yr hoping in a few yrs to be able to go to farmers markets still have alot to learn. But i do have a nice piece of land up here in north MO
I sell mine 1.25lb all day everyday. The reason anything more is too expensive is most people who buy bulk are buying for canning. If its cheaper to buy double the amount at superstore already canned people don't buy them here. Good on ya for living in an area where prices do good!
I heard people complaining how poor farmers are I'm about to start here in a few months and I've come to learn it's a hustle you have to diversify not all farmers are poor bad farmers are poor. It's like any other business give the customer what they want that's why these people are profitable.
Hey bro i am a young farmer to good work bro, i learm you can use steel aswell cuz u know the wood wears away, n if u get it copper based uk tomatoes need copper so its a win win. Thanks for the tips bro one love, stay growing. This inspired me to start my channel to
would love to hear the story of how your family started the orchard! I think this could be a video where you get multiple of your family members in on it!
Are you able to grow the same variety of tomatoes year after year in the same ground. Reason I'm asking is normally when growing crops you rotate what you are growing so that you don't have problems with pests and diseases. You are doing a great job there as well as putting up videos in your channel.
Super stuff as normal. Glad you explained a little more on the background and history of this set up. That’s a great 👍 harvest rating for the toms and as you day you pay for the quality. Obviously I grow for myself, family and friends but I also pass on produce to others and they donate for the various charities I believe in such as cancer research etc keep up the good work cheers 🍻
The model of the "ideal soil" is one that is 50% pore space and of that, half is filled with water adhered to the soil particles and the other half is filled with air. Plant roots need both consistent and adequate amounts of air and water in the soil to perform their functions and if they have both they are efficient and long lived in the soil. Long lived roots allow plants to use more of their energy to produce above ground growth in the form of biomass and crop. Coarse textured or sandy soils have an imbalance in that the pore space will contain much more air and much less water (9 to 15%) than the ideal soil. SWRT subsurface membranes correct this imbalance by detaining/retaining twice as much rainfall or irrigation water in the rootzone to optimize plant growth and production.
You wouldn't have insect problems if you enclose the entire Greenhouse👍 and if you switched over to using aeroponics you would get three times the yield. Give or take.👍
Hello, I'm from Ukraine, good video like subscription! I wanted to ask if it makes sense now to start a greenhouse business in the United States with tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. What is the situation with the sale of finished products?
If you could guide me it would be very helpfull and thankfull * would you recommend growing infabric growing bags * and what soil would you prefer if so sir thank you
Control the sun's heat on the plants. The tunnel provided shading which produces a more beautiful plant leading to beautiful tomatoes. Plants that get sun burned don't produce pretty fruit. I believe he is in Florida where it's always sunny and hot.

This kid is smart, hardworking.. I like that in young people.. he prob has the sweetest girl in town.. keep it up bro... Grow some Jalapenos.. $$$$$
There's not too many young people getting into farming anymore keep up the good work
He didn’t just “get into” farming. They’re already an orchard operation.
Because a huge number of farmers struggle and barely make it these days. alot have to work jobs still

Good luck to all..

How's it going a year later?

love how open you are with the specifics, thanks!
it's good to see a young guy with good practical common sense on farming and business.
Thanks buddy. I now grow a lot of tomatoes and quadrupled what I was getting from my previous salary in a US Base. God bless you.
Are you big on social media? How do you market your product? I would love to do something like that. Sounds interesting. Janice
do you pay taxes and if so how much?

if you do the labor yourself it is indeed free. Sure time costs something but all it costs is what youd rather be doing so no monetary cost.
@@65stang98 You made my point for me. You work for free!
Wow, you must be rich!!! Making that tomato money!
Naw man, farming is expensive!!
Yip. Takes hard work and have a passion for it.
How do you keep bugs off of your field tomatoes? We want to do organic, so anything natural would be best for us.

Looks ideal if you've got the climate, commercial tomato growing where I am is pretty restricted to greenhouses which is a big investment

You can send off soil samples and find out exactly what dry amendments you need to add. That’ll prepare the soil to exactly what a tomato plant needs

Definitely going to try that red deuce next year. They appear to stay short and are FULL of tomatoes. Will be great for my little home garden. Thanks!
Do it, the best tomatoes ever!

I sell heirloom tomatoes $3/lb in Sacramento, California. People complain about the prices but they always come back.
In palisade, Colorado where some of the best peaches in the world are grown, 2020 was a bad year. They lost 60% of the crop due to a freeze.
Cherry Tomato Varieties are more resistant to Blights, and produce well up into Fall.
