Keep going!!! Ronin 2 is a very versatile tool -not necessarily as a gimbal for a single operator work as this does require a huge amount of effort to make work in a meaningful way. The ronin 2 in my opinion really shines as a remote head that can be used in many applications on set in place of more expensive remote heads. I use the r2 on cranes, dolly with dance floor, jib arms etc… It is worth working with a grip or assist who is comfortable to carry to the rig and then using comms to run through the shot whilst you operate from the wheels, joystick or force pro ( even using the new dji transmission monitor, which has force pro built in)
The R2 with the force pro is amazing for using with the R2 as a remote head. You amount a monitor with a feed and the force pro onto a tripod head of your choosing, and suddenly you are operating the head with all the smooth movements of using your tripod! Also don't get discouraged. When I first started DP'ing I thought I had to operate everything. It's so nice hiring an operator for certain jobs where gimbal operating is necessary, you don't need to be a specialist in everything, and having an R2 in your kit to rent out, isn't the worst. Best of luck!
I’m a dude, BUT we have a significantly better experience using the Ready rig (pro arms with Vega) with the Ronin 2 than the easy rig. The vest is rigid which leads me to believe that it probably works a little more universally better for women/smaller torsos than the more flexible vest with the Easyrig. For camera movement control, we use the DJI wireless transmission combo with the hi-brite monitor and Ronin 4D grips. It gives us an all in one solution for my first AC to pull focus and control camera movement when we need additional control over our typical PTF mode
Great reaction to operating the R2...I appreciate your transparency! I operate it with the Ready Rig/Pro Arms and am thankfully able to accomplish most of the shots I need to get, but not without multiple takes. It's not my day job, so I'm not operating it frequently. Mostly, I want to 100% agree with your comments about the R2 being an incredible instrument when operated from a jib or car mount. When I'm working with it handheld, I'm constantly looking for the sweet spot in the speed/deadband/acceleration settings for SmoothTrack. And don't even get me started about how there's a total dearth of online training available for the R2 compared to the RS3/4.
Nicole, I've experienced this also I currently use the ronin 2 with the Easy Rig. I noticed that the weight was on my upper body due to the Eazy Rig not being properly positioned. If you drop the Easy Rig to be strapped around your hips rather than your waist/ lower abdomen I think you'll find it more useful in balance and a lot less strain on your back etc. hope this helps.
People are suggesting Movi Pro but you’ll likely have the same challenges. They are similar gimbals in size and weight and are not best suited for single operators. RS4 Pro with the stronger torque motors put on a Tilta Ring is still probably your best option for now. Once you find the perfect vest it will help with both gimbal setups.
Also for controlling the Ronin 2 you did not mention the “Ronin 2 Thumb Controller” from DJI which is $250. This is what lets you control pan, tilt, roll axis as a single operator by mounting the Thumb Controller on the handle. Similar to Tilta’s on the Tilta Ring for the RS3/RS4 Pro.
I sent you a DM about this, but yeah use the Ronin more as a remote head, it's an extremely versatile tool. Master Wheels are a game changer. Also you are missing probably the two vests that you absolutely require in order to use the Ronin in a single or dual op setting all day every day, that's the Tilta Armorman, and the Walter Klassen Slingshot. Both are more expensive than easy rigs, rental houses rarely carry the armorman, and WK vests are custom, but that also means they are more comfortable and being able to withstand higher payloads.
came here to write this. don't be disheartened! working with the wheels + operators and remote head style with the R2 on dollies/cranes etc is awesome. I've never enjoyed the easyrig for gimbal stuff but I have seen operators use the Antigravity cam with great success.
Thank you! Yeah, I’m looking for versatility. If a production wants to shoot on a specific camera body, I want to know that I can throw it on a gimbal 🥲
It may be the vest, however I will say this. I used to own an Easyrig vario5 with Stabil arm and gimbal vest. I also owned the easytilt. I used all of this with the rs3 pro with the Tilta ring grip. All well under the payload. And I will never do this again lol. Overall the whole experience sucked. I practiced a lot for weeks and when it came time to shoot I was just not happy with the footage I was getting. Maybe I just really suck at operating gimbals (could very well be the case). All I know is that I’m never doing that again. Sold my vario5 too as it was overkill for the kind of work I do. I don’t spend more than a few minutes at a time handholding a camera and when I do it’s usually pretty light nowadays.
Did you try different size of vest ? There are Small / Medium / Large version of the Cine or Gimbal vest at Easyrig. I'm 1m70 and quite thin, and the S size changed everything and that's why I invested in one. The rental ones were all oversize and weren't good for me. I'm definitly on the same page as you regarding the R2... It's a remote head. DJI needs to do a MOVI PRO like, a beefed up RS4 PRO and not as a huge as a R2, but still have to connections and ease of use (onboard screens, joystick, recenter button etc).
The perfect best for you is probably the antigravity cam. Quite out of your budget but there is one older unit left at B&H in the $7k range and far more bang for your buck than the top line easy rig. I could talk to you more about this option in a call if you’re interested. Are you going to NAB in April?
Nice video Nicole - As someone else in the comments mentioned, pay close attention to the Movi Pro. I can last all day on the movi pro and have used it for a load of one take music videos that I could never have done with the payload of the R2. It can also take heavier set ups than what the smaller gimbals allow - but not nearly as heavy as what the R2 can take. So it sounds like it could be the happy in-between that you're searching for :) Also wonder if you've spoken to Readyrig about your sizing issue as the Readyrig is much better at compensating for the up/down axis. I see way more footsteps in my footage when using the easyrig with a gimbal.
Yeah only downside is the axies don’t lock BUT definitely a better choice. Personally if I’m a smaller crew. We will just choose a smaller camera. For anything heavy go ergo rig for shoulder (they make a smaller one for women called center fit) and they have a extension that makes it similar to an ez rig without the overhead restraint. Not a gimbal but an option!
@@nshaps also you really need to bump up the deadband. My settings are deadband 50, smoothness 22. It helps a lot. And turn off follow mode for roll when in follow mode.
I think going that route whilst that makes sense doesnt solve her problems due to that rendering her current cam config useless not to mention she is shooting what looks like a red v raptor. So matching that to the 4d not impossible but is extra work. Me personally would just have a dedicated gimbal set up with like a komodo, prime lenses and rs3 pro with only the necessary accessories
Commenting for the algorithm. I'd say keep the Ronin. At least for rental income as you said. But steadicams are likely what will serve you better. I know that comes with a big price tag and time to learn... Steadicam > Gimbals
I get what youre saying but maybe use a smaller camera when you must use a gimbal? Like the komodo? Or use a steadicam or the arri trinity for those really heavy cameras?
Oh that's smart - I should look into that. Easy rig does make a flex vest for women, they sent me a combination that they recommended for me. The issue is that rental houses don't have this combination
A producer will simply employ a stronger person with better endurance. All steady rigs require strength and endurance. Why would a production house hire an operator who does not have what it takes to cut it ? Its like a woman entering world class male boxing.
Keep going!!!

Thank you! Yeah I think I’d rather hire an operator or rethink the tools I’m using to get the shots I want. 100%!
i actually love the RS2, but i understand your point of views
Rs2 is not R2
I also love the RS2/RS3
I hope small rig sees this and sponsors you because this is wild to hear
Easy rig ideally 😂
"I'm not afraid to be seen trying"
well that's my mantra today
I’m so glad 🫡

RS4 has the same weight capacity as the RS3 though 😢
Look up Nick Salazar’s video testing Red V-Raptor on an RS4 Pro. With 25% more torque on the motors the combo works flawlessly.
Doesn't hurt to be seen trying... that's some words of wisdom right there!
Amen!

Awesome Vid. I have an easy rig, but my camera isn't that big. Looking to do more high production shoots, so this is really great info. Thanks Nicole
Thank you! Yeah, I’m looking for versatility. If a production wants to shoot on a specific camera body, I want to know that I can throw it on a gimbal 🥲
Great vid! Thanks for the info! I run the fx6 on the rs3 pro and I am always looking at ways to optimize.
Thank you! Yeah I just want the flexibility to run any bigger camera package on a gimbal

And yes, I know I need to update my profile pic 😂
The RS3 with the tilta ring is great. But once you get heavier it’s a lot for someone to op. Throwing it on a jib / crane next!

Flowcine Xspline vest is the future. Mount easyrig power pack or a steadicam arm. Gender and lower back friendly!!
There is a small thumb controller. I don’t know if it’s still sold. It might be available on the used market (like the r2)
Does it attach to the ring..?
@@nshaps yes, it attaches to any 1/4-20 I think. And there is that mounting accessory that usually comes with the r2
@@nshaps also you really need to bump up the deadband. My settings are deadband 50, smoothness 22. It helps a lot. And turn off follow mode for roll when in follow mode.
I might be off topic, but couldn't the DJI Ronin 4D + eventually a easyrig solve your problem for less investment?
I think going that route whilst that makes sense doesnt solve her problems due to that rendering her current cam config useless not to mention she is shooting what looks like a red v raptor. So matching that to the 4d not impossible but is extra work. Me personally would just have a dedicated gimbal set up with like a komodo, prime lenses and rs3 pro with only the necessary accessories
Oh there is skill levels with that stick and you can mount it to the frame. But I agree, a second person should operate it.
Have you looked at the freefly Movi?
No I haven’t!
Commenting for the algorithm.
I'd say keep the Ronin. At least for rental income as you said. But steadicams are likely what will serve you better. I know that comes with a big price tag and time to learn... Steadicam > Gimbals
Thanks Dawson! Yeah it's now finding a rental house that would actually push it out, it's been collecting dust since I got it
I'm tall, big and pretty strong but whenever I see an operator such as you my back hurts just by watching, I don't know how you do it 😂
I get what youre saying but maybe use a smaller camera when you must use a gimbal? Like the komodo? Or use a steadicam or the arri trinity for those really heavy cameras?
I think that’s the plan, just delegate when I exceed the payload with the RS3
I don't know if easyrig makes female vests, but proaim does! They have some easyrigs aswel and i actually prefer them over the original one
Oh that's smart - I should look into that. Easy rig does make a flex vest for women, they sent me a combination that they recommended for me. The issue is that rental houses don't have this combination
@@nshaps yeah! The thing I like about pro aim is that they’re a third of the price of an official easyrig😅
Great video home sliceeee.
Thanks homie :)
Ronin 2 is the best on the market, no competition. The next upgrade is literally 150,000 dollars
Yeah it’s nuts. Just gotta use it on a jib or crane next!
Movi pro is better in my opinion
I gotta check this out
It has half the payload of the R2 but yes it’s plenty capable and half the weight. Movi XL definitely not a handheld unit, more like a mini shot over
For handheld probably.
I cant stand the R2😂
Just get a Ronin 4D, it's way easier and has great image quality.
I won’t knock it till I try it
A producer will simply employ a stronger person with better endurance.
All steady rigs require strength and endurance.
Why would a production house hire an operator who does not have what it takes to cut it ?
Its like a woman entering world class male boxing.
You clearly didn’t watch the video 😂
learn to roller skate
Yeah or hoverboard 😭
Geez, just get a ronin 4D
Why?
It's much better stabilized, has good ecosystem, is very rentable, easier/faster to handle
Or just start going to the gym to get stronger, that will also help.
what's your PR big fella@@tomasradacovsky7227
