Yes, the world of saddles is a tad scary. I can see where most of us cyclists would be confused on which to buy. Especially some being very expressive. Been riding for some years now and it seemed that I would get that discomfort around the 80-100 klms mark, and also even hitting the 50klm mark at times. Mind you I've been using a Specialized Toupee for 3- years now. And thought well the saddle hurting is relatively normal in cycling so ... But recently I came across the (Pro Stealth) in the 142mm size and was in awe just looking at one!!! I dove in the deep waters and got one after hearing so many folks speaking very highly on the Stealth Pro. Glad I did!! I mean seriously, to be able to ride long distances and not feel that pressure in that tender area is heavenly! The Stealth has a perfect cutout for a healthy flow which works extremely well for me. But having said that, remember that each and every one of us is built differently so one must invest time to investigate all there is about saddles. Hopefully you will find the correct saddle for you...
I think Fizik 'wing tips' were designed to give max support while giving way enough to allow free movement of the thighs. Feel free to school me if I'm wrong!
Short-nosed saddles were developed to comply with UCI regulations because the nose of the saddles couldn't be x cm infront of the BB. Shorter nose means the saddle can be slid forward while complying with the regulations.
Yep. and riders like to sit further forward relative to the bottom bracket, when climbing, and when going more aero in the drops. A shorter saddle allows one to keep the ischiopubic rami better supported on the wider rear part of the saddle.
Just tested the fizik antares r3 wide and i like it, but..........not enough padding. I am 34"waste, 6"3, 183 lbs. Took this out for a spin 80 miles yesterday and just a tad sore. I used a flite for years and always sore butt after 45 to 50 miles, as it was not as wide as the 149mm. I understand we men have different pelvic designs and we have to at least get close to what we want. There are so many brands,it crazy. I guess i will try the fizik argo next. I like lots of padding and i hope this is the one to try... Good vid.
Hi Veloworthy, I liked your video, thanks. I just picked up a Pro Stealth off-road a week ago, but not convinced yet of it ( still pain at the sittingbones and in the middle ) I’m thinking of trying the Fi’zik Tempo 150mm that you showed here, but which type is this ? I see the R1 up to R5 🤦🏻♂️
I don’t think you ever explain that the Fizik you call a “Cadillac” (which has not been the ne plus ultra of cars for about fifty years) is the Tempo Argo. The Argo is designed for endurance riding. The other, narrower Tempo is the Vento, which is designed for racing. I have never found measuring to the nose of the saddle useful when changing from one saddle to another, which is why Fizik’s marks on the underside make sense only when taking the same saddle off and on. Different saddles have such different configurations that the nose measurement is only helpful as a rough starting point. I find it far more helpful to measure to the rough sit bone point - usually at the widest point of the saddle.
I have the PRO but will give the SLR a try. The pro is just to wide for me, 143mm wide! The back of my legs hit the saddle when pedaling and I find myself constantly moving forward to avoid that. SLR is 130mm so hopefully should be better.
I had the Selle touring model, the Pro was more comfortable & narrower nose part of why, the SLR looks primo to me, headwinds here keep me on the clipons a lot, good review thx 🍺
Go to a bike shop and try as many as you can! The one you want and the one that works for you are often quite different. I wanted the Fizik Argo and ended up with a QS Labs saddle.

Hello i know the video has been 2 years, im wondering the difference from the stealth pro vs selle italia slr. Thinking of trying out the SLR, currently im using the stealth pro no issue with is so far just that the nose are probably too wide and it rubs my thighs, do you think the SLR will give the same problem?
Fizik offeres on their webpage something like a saddle finder. You answer questions about hours you want to spend on the bike, how flexible you are and so on. After that they will recommend you one of there products. Helped me a lot to find what I needed
@@maximilianreiter Yeah, I tried that one, and it recommended tempo argo. But I dont have access to that saddle, and after a lot of tax i paid when I bought fizik shoes, I am not doing it again. What's your opinion on FIZIK ANTARES VERSUS EVO R1 ADAPTIVE or ANTARES 00 VERSUS EVO? They both got that "channel" between the paddings, just not cut-outs.
@@Veloworthy thanks ! I am just wondering about tempo also . I dont have access to terra argo and based on fizik calculator they proposed to me tempo :)
I did try both, kinda hard feel on the saddle for both. Switched it for fabric line s and it feels like you're sitting on a couch. And now I regret for switching the fabric for pro stealth because the same reason (pro got harder pad)
Traditionally the wider nose is so that you can be in an aero position, while scooting up on the saddle and having more material for support. If that is not for you, Prologo makes the narrower nose of the snub nose line up. Good luck on your search!
That can sometimes be a problem with bike fit. If you haven't already had a proper fitter look at your position, it could be a good investment. So sorry to hear!
Try one without a cut-out. More surface area means less pinch points. I personally use an Antares R1 and I love it for everything except when I'm on the drops.
Which of the 3 have you tried? I also experience it, numbness even less than 20 miles. Tried 4 saddles, It’s getting better when I move the saddle forward. Based on the videos I watch, I think prologo have better chances. I will try 3 more saddles, If it’s not getting any better, maybe I should do bike fit.
Bi Saddle fixed all of my problems. Although I just ordered a Vento to see if it may work for me since the bisaddle is so heavy. I don’t expect it to fit, but worth a shot. Seriously though, if you’re like me and could never get away from numbness, take the weight penalty and get a bisaddle. I have the EXT and STEALTH, both are phenomenal.
It may be: - Saddle position is too high. - Your sit bones didn't match saddle width. - Try to tilt saddle downward. (based on my personal experience). And the numbness gone forever
Hi! My wife has some problems with the saddle of our spinningbike. Our spinningbike is a Greg Lemond. Nice 'toy' but they delivered it -second hand- with a ordinary saddle. So not the original one. Hi, thank you! Your video is the only one on yt showing different saddle brands in the same video, this is very helpful for me! I have 115mm sit bones and im currently using a fizik antares 142mm wide (i already ride like 15000 km on this one) but when i ride a lot (like 6 days a week) i have some pain in the area between sit bones and testicles, i mean the perineum area is the only one that hurts a lot after long rides. (i tend to have most of the times an aggressive position, holding the hand down on the bar). Now i wondering which new saddle could i try, but i can't decide between slr boost superflow (130mm) or specialized power (130mm) or maybe an arione (?) . Any suggestion? And if you're wondering, i've already been to an expert biomechanics that helped me with bike position, i think the problem is saddle related..
Although I've never tried the Specialized power I've heard good things about it. Hopefully you know of some friends saddles you can test out. If your position is already dialed in, it comes down to saddle preference. Good luck!
Hi, just like you I have 115mm sit bone width and like to ride in a more aggressive position, so I wonder if you’ve found the right saddle yet. Let me know what you went for and if it has sorted the issue.

The amount of oxygen reaching the *** typically falls 70% to 80% in 3 minutes. A guy can have his oxygen levels drop 100% but he doesn’t know it. After half an hour he goes numb. The arteries in the perineum run laterally and therefore they come under more pressure when they come into contact with the cutouts’ edges. It is no longer a question of whether or not traditional bike saddles causes ED, but what are you going to do about it?” Your own history confirms that you are not designed to sit on something resembling a 2 x 4 up on edge. Your comment about the SLR is true. I have an SLR boost and it's giving me trouble. I'm new to the game and I ride 80% of the time on the hoods and like to move around. After about 20 miles the discomfort sets in and only gets worse. HELP! lol
All of these saddles have a cut-out. Please anyone tell me it's not me alone who cannot sit on such saddles because I always end up sitting directly on the sharp edges of the cutout. I need a flat section in the middle to distribute the weight evenly.
Very helpful video! Thank you. But, I have a couple questions now. I have a 10 yr old Selle Italia SLR. I bought it for the huge cut-out, hoping it would help with the perennial pain on my 40 mile rides. But, it never helped. I just keep standing to relieve the pain. Is the new version much better? Or, (for an endurance rider) is the ability to move around in a Fizik saddle a much greater benefit compared to just having a giant cutout on a race saddle?
Cutout is only part of the equation. While it does help, it's not everything. Sound like you could benefit from a saddle with different material (10 years is a long life for a saddle). If you are mostly doing endurance, try a saddle that has both a cutout plus the ability to move around such as the Fizik. Good luck!
Does the width play a role in saddle comfort on long rides? I've done 400km and had terrible burns inside my thighs. I've been told this is too do with saddle being to wide.
Width mainly plays a role when you are in a more aggressive position in the drops. Generally while riding a more relaxed position you can sit a bit back on the saddle as not to have the nose dig in.
Fizik Temp Argo: hard as a rock...has padding IF YOU REALLY PRESS DOWN...I wanted to like it, but dear lord...I don't want plush but I don't want to sit on a brick
It went together easily in less than an hour. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxHL1v1R3NE5x4KiYfyt8dnQmyNYz7qi5L Make sure the front fork is forward or the pedals will hit the front tire. Tires are both a little soft so it needs air before I ride it. The rear wheel didn't come with a clamp regular bolts hold it on. The front had the clamp. No scratches out of box. Rims are a little off with a slight wobble. They could have spent more time with the spoke tool fixing the run out. So far out of the box I'm happy with it. I did replace the pedals with a nice aftermarket set. After riding it a bit my A$$ is a bit sore so I ordered another seat. Overall I'm nearly 60 and didn't ride a bike in 30 years. I like my new 29" Schwinn. It will be used for casual rides with my friend.
Saddles ought to fit like a shoe, yet no honest size info is given. Any saddle is recommended for 3 to 5 body sizes. Almost all commercial saddles are too wide for me, at the location of abductor muscles, next ramus of ischias. That is the transition of wing to nose. I had to cut off 5mm from saddles, on each side, frontal edge of wing and transition to nose. Even super t-shaped leather saddles were too wide around the nose. Most plastic saddles are much more v-shaped, even wider in that area. Despite saddles being only 130mm but total width is not a relevant piece of information. Each saddle has a shape that will arrest the ramus and ischias. It will be deep and horizontal. May be hidden under cushion. At this location, the saddle must be narrow enough. I haven't tried the selle italia friction free monorail model, but i speculate that it would be good for me. I cannot name another model that might work out of the box. The regular flite still appears too wide. 164cm rider. Imho saddles should be officially recommended for a male and a different female body height. But imho they are unofficially all for either about 175cm (SM) and about 185cm (ML). It seems to me that most saddles are of tolerable comfort, if only the size is right or they are trimmed to size. They are optimized for different pelvis rotations tho. I go hands free most of the time, on a cruiser/klunker bike. Ideally my sitbones need a slight cavity, broken in cushion, to allow for maximum control, as you do not want to steer with the legs, when you ride hands free.
This is stupid. it fits well..., for who. All saddles aren't snub nosed, nor do they all have cut outs. Talk about the issues with carbon rails. Most saddles are a available in different widths.

My problem is pain on both sides of my sit bones but I think the problem is that I'm riding on a 15yo saddle😅I'm thinking buying a selle italia slr🤔
You are definitely due for a new one!
This particular review is specifically for the snub nose saddle category by different brands.
@@Veloworthy Yep, Thank you.
I'll stick with the Specialized S Works Power Mirror saddle.
after spending that much - you probably don't have a choice :')
