The DS version is genuinely one of the best ways to play this classic.
The best version of the original is the pc port.
A real time map, no loading times, 180 degree turn and a dedicated knife button that doesn't take up inventory space made it my favorite version.

@@DarkCloud3000 only if you care about graphics. Sometimes quality of live improvements in gameplay make it more user friendly. But if we compare Graphics, than there is the Game Cube Remake or the Remaster of it for later Consoles.
Using a Clumsy Tank Control may give some ppl the feeling that this is the way to play, but in reality it was because of limited Control Ideas (especialy after seeing what's possible in 3D Games after that with one Stick and free movement over stay, turn around, run, stay, turn around, shoot)

The ds version is an apology from capcom and nintendo after they cancelled the resident evil port on the gameboy color
I always forget that it was released on NDS, even though i rented it and it was so amazing to see a game like that running on a portable device
The improvements from the DS remastered version makes it the best way to be enjoyed. To name a few key ones, we can use the knife throughout the game with the L button without the item occupying a slot for it, we can skip the masked loadings from doors/stairs/etc as the game runs from a card and the 3D models were enhanced, they look much more natural and has more fluid movement overall.
Still, the PS version features better backgrounds overall, but on original hardware, the DS backgrounds look great, they seem to use the same resolution, but there are differences as the PS seem to feature more colors and better contrast.
There's this fan patch for all three original Resident Evil and even Dino Crisis for PC which makes it compatible with modern PCs, gamepad compatibility and door/loading skipping as well, I always miss the knife shortcut, though.
The over colour saturation on the DS ruins the entire mood.
@@gtamike_TSGK I'd agree, it's possible they did that to compensate the original LCD, which was OK, but not great, remember it's a 2004 handheld. Still, if playing on emulators, such as Retroarch and others, we can use shaders and other image tweaks to desaturate the game to our taste, it works better this way, I think.
NDS version looks sweet, it has more vibrant colors, a better inventory screen and more content, in Deadly Silence you can pull out the knife quickly just lie RE 4 and the unlockable costumos are so good, both are good but DS is better

Una ventaja de la versión de nintendo DS es que ahí tienes disponible el mapa en la pantalla de abajo, en el otro tienes que entrar al menú para verlo.
La doble pantalla siempre ha sido un excelente elemento que mejora la experencia de uuego al no interferir el HUD con la pantalla principal.

That would've been epic. RE DS was insanely underrated. The d-pad might not be the greatest feel for some but it more than makes up for that with the boat load of game play modes. Rebirth mode is a lot of fun and the knife fights were fun.

The DS port is so under appreciated
esta versión del juego es bastante interesante y curiosa, mi primera experiencia con la franquicia fue con el remake del primero para gamecube, pero compré ésta versión para NDS porque quería ver como era su versión original y vaya que me gusto el juego. Los colores de los fondos por momentos se pueden ver un poco pastelosos o raros, pero eso es porque el primer modelo de NDS con el que salió éste juego tenía una pantalla menos brillosa y hacían esto para que no se perdiera el detalle, algo similar a los colores chillones de metroid fusion con el GBA. Gráficamente eran muy similares, la versión de NDS tenía mejores modelos poligonales, pero los videos y los fondos pre-renderizados tenían mucho menor resolución por la poca memoria del cartucho, también tenia ligeros cambios en los controles y era una bendición tener el mapa siempre a la vista, en su día esperaba que capcom relanzara también RE2 Y RE3, pero supongo que las bajas ventas del juego impidieron que eso sucediera, éste fue uno de los juegos que mas jugué en mi NDS en su momento y como quisiera que capcom relanzara estos juegos al estilo de los remasters de night dive studios de quake 2, turok o shadow man
Con tal de que sea portátil y jugar en tu camita este clásico ❤
Con una notebook con emulador o psp modeada podias hacer lo mismo, pero claro, no es lo mismo, esta version es excelente

The characters models and their animations have been updated for the DS version, it's pretty cool, it's not just a port.
I also love the REbirth mode.
(talking about REbirth, did you know that in France, people call the (gamecube) REmake "REbirth"? Why? Because they are stupid)
On the DS version is there a way to swap screens for gameplay where it's on the top or no?

NDS is how a remaster should be, better textures and models while retaining the original graphics. Best of both worlds.

Like Tales of Symphonia, GTA Definitive Trilogy, Warcraft 3. This is what i call a lazy cash grab, or mor harsh: a spit in the face for fans.
Remakes are also affected by this(some of them maybe patched, but a Remake should be the "better new version"). Flashback, XIII, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, Secret of Mana ect.

This game was always one of my favorites. It felt almost like an overdue apology for the poor director's cut version. The intro isn't the uncensored version but whatever.
I was today years old when I found out there was an official Nintendo DS port of Resident Evil.

Dead Silence has some downgrades, but I actually prefer it over the PS1 original version thanks to a ton of Quality of Life changes. It ought to be popular with speed runners because being able to skip door sequences and everything just feels faster paced.
I'll still always come back to this port and then play Remake.
Back then when you can play a game like Re on a portable was something else, now today you can probably game the ps1 emulator on something small like a Miyoo mini. So let us take to this moment how much effort and awesomeness this displays back then,

La nintendo DS salió mucho despues en la epoca de la PSP qué ya corria juegos muy similares al de PS2, En ésa época la tecnologia avanzo bastante, con respecto a los 90" cuando salio la PS1, me gusta más la versión de PS1 por que lo juegas con el mando y en la TV más cómodamente que jugandolo en la portatil en pantalla chiquita éso quita que version de DS no sea buen port está bien hecha, yo los resident evil y silent de PS1 y PS2 me los pasé unas 500 veces y todavia los juego hasta dia de hoy cada vez más rapido intentado superar mi guardado anterior y jugue la version de DS también y es buenísima, pero dije prefiero jugarlo con un mando y una TV, es más cómodo.
Acho que o NDS entregou muito pouco pra um port de uma dos primeiros jogos de PsX...

Resident evil was my first game on the Play Station so the PS power on seemed kind of creepy to me for the longest time as well as moonlight sonata. I always associated those two things with Resident Evil.
The Saturn version was the best console home port of the original as it included a brand new exclusive battle mode. A second lab Tyrant fight for Chris and an exclusive Tick enemy for the underground area.

Solo mira la cinemática del inicio, no tienen tapujos en mostrar una cabeza cayendo y la mitad desfigurada.
Igual se cambia, pero impresionante la potencia de esa portátil.

Lo que hace mejor de DS es el rediseño de personajes la eliminacion de transicion de puertas y que el cuchillo es muy util

Yo lo tengo y después de haber jugado el remake en gamecube y el re4, me pareció una basura. Sobretodo el cringe de las voces y el famoso “Jill sandwich”.

I liked the DS animation especially the movements like running/walking, PS1 has a classic movement but it has much details in the audio and better graphic quality.
The thing that I don't like about the DS is the blood color which is green 🙂
You can change the blood's color from settings to Red, or even blue. Just like on the N64 RE2.

Lo único que no me convence de la versión de DS es la censura :'T he jugado una versión en español del Director's Cut del PlayStation y veo que a esta versión de DS le falta eso realmente
La de DS no tiene censura, de hecho es mas pesada que la de ps1, tu puedes cambiar el color de la sangre a roja
Não entendo porque se impressionam com esse jogo super otimizado do PS1 estar rodando melhor no DS, que é um console de 64 bits que roda Metroid 3d e Mario 64 melhor que o próprio N64
Se impressionam com o Residen Evil 2 de Nintendo 64 também, mas o que mais pesava e foi o motivo do jogo usar dois discos foram os audios e as cenas de cg, com a Angel Studio abusando da capacidade de compressão e descompressão do Nintendo 64 + a otimização que os devs fizeram pra versão original, esse provávlemnete foi o mesmo truque que usaram no DS
Es vergonzoso que después de varios años la versión de PS1 siga siendo mejor que la del NDS, que supuestamente es más moderna y potente. Con lo cual queda claro que la Gris de Sony tenía lo suyo a pesar del tiempo.
Para ser un port de una consola portatil y de mucha menos capacidad que la PS1 hicieron un trabajo muy digno

Pra mim nos gráficos o DS deixou a desejar,poderia ser melhor,meio pixelados, enquanto no PS1 gráficos mais suaves,e o PS1 nem tinha anti-aliasing.
A tela pequena do DS tem poucos pixels, mas devido ao tamanho dela, nem se nota. Só assistindo assim em tela maior.

@@razielleon598 La de GameCube es un Remake (y de lo mejor). La de DS es un equivalente inferior a la versión de Saturn (que ya tenía los extras) pero que a su vez estaba por debajo que la versión de PS1. Gustos son gustos, uno puede decir cuál le gusta más pero no decir que una versión es mejor que otra cuando no lo es. No es lo mismo.

Probablemente el problema sale de la expresión del posteo original donde lo correcto sería decir "la versión que más me gustó jugar fue la de DS" o "mi versión favorita es la de DS", y no decir que la versión técnicamente inferior es un poco mejor a pesar de que se ve claramente (y se oye). Yo jugué ambas al igual que la de Sega Saturn que estaría en el medio de ambas e incluso el Remake de GC que es una joyita,

Nunca entendí porque CAPCOM no hizo este juego para el PSP. No tendría las limitaciones de resolución del DS, no tendría las limitaciones de los FMVs y podría ser una versión definitiva del Resident Evil original
I think PSP even can handle RE4. But DS is more successful than PSP so you know

Hay zonas como la del pasillo en el minuto 6:07, en la ds se ve horrible y aparte el color está muy saturado en varias zonas, prefiero el de PS1 anunque el de DS se ve buen port a pesar de todo.

Sin duda prefiero la versión de Playstation 1, y por muy buenas Razones.
1.Gráficamente La versión de nintendo DS se ve horrible hasta incluso digo que no puede competir...cosa que es natural, ya que la nintendo DS es menos potente que la Playstation 1...
2. los modelados se ven horribles y muy pixelados (casi tan horribles como los de sega Saturn) y los personajes caminan muy raro como si tuvieran ganas de ir al baño.
3...y las imágenes pre-renderizadas tienen colores muy chillantes, lo cual no deberia ser asi, ya que se perdierde la admosfera de terror que tenia la versión de Playstation 1, la cual tenia tonalidades grises y verde, y una oscuridas que da esa sensación de terror y miedo cuando caminas en los pasillos.
4. Censuraron la sangre de los Zombies...
Y seguro me diran: que te pasa la versión de DS tiene mas cosas y es portátil... Y eso me da igual, la versión de Playstation 1 es la mejor versión gráficamente y se nota el terror.
