      Realistically, she's running out of time. The US Classic is in two weeks, and nationals is just a few weeks afterwards. She and Suni really need to show that they can hold up against the current best. I'm not expecting them to be able to beat Simone, but when you consider how deep the US talent pool is with both veterans and younger athletes, Gabby and Suni have a major uphill climb.

    Great video, thanks for compiling! Two additions: 1) Jade did all of this just ONE WEEK after finishing her NCAA season! She's on fire, and it's only up for her from here I think! 2) Beam judging was just silly, and can't be taken seriously. It was particularly loose domestic scoring. So that's why Jade's beam was higher than her bars; and Suni's routine was solid, but not nearly as good as the score would suggest.

      I really don't see how Suni is making a case for herself. She's had one good beam routine, and three months out from Paris (and only a month or so out from nationals), her signature event isn't competition-ready yet. They're not going to take her just for beam, and they're not going to take her for beam/bars unless her bars is a medal contender. She has all of the skills on bars, but she's said that she's having trouble getting her endurance back, and bars like Suni's hoped-for composition is an intense endurance event. She might get there, I hope she proves me wrong, but it's an uphill battle for her.

If she gets approval to compete in the AA at nationals (and she needs to submit the request because she only qualified to compete on BB), she would need to do a full rotation twice over the course of two days. Given that we have not seen her do a single full rotation since Tokyo, I'm not optimistic. And this is not a slam against her because she is such an amazing gymnast, but this kidney issue really knocked her down and she might never get back to 100%. And that's okay, so long as she is able to have a healthy life. Her best competitive days may be behind her.

    I didn't find Gabby's bars heartbreaking at all! I think everyone's expectations on her were just too high. Returning after all that time, with an older body and under a new code, is going to require a learning curve, and that includes a competition learning curve. Of course she made some big mistakes! That's to be expected, and I just don't see it as indicative of how well her comeback will or won't go, only time will tell. I suppose if the main thought is Olympic contention, it does make it look a little less likely that she'll be able to pull it together to be a major contender for the team in the next couple of months, but that's also the risk she took in coming back this season rather than last season.

      YEP. I don't think anyone is doubting what Gabby or Suni for that matter CAN DO but rather if they will get it together in time. Gabby for me has left it a little too late. I think also that Covid might have done more a damage than we might think because she looked winded trying to do her bars. I am hoping that both these incredible young ladies are able to put it all together though when it most counts because it would be absolutely EPIC and special if they both along with Simone make the team.

      @ravanne3746 Місяць тому +1

      It's to increase her difficulty score. The harder the skill, the higher the base points of her routine will be. Sure, doing harder skills is more tiring, but in order for any athlete to make the Olympic team they will have to do difficult routines as cleanly as possible.

    • @JaniceLThinker
      @JaniceLThinker Місяць тому +1

      Her one arm pirouettes are fire. Gabrielle is stronger with age & time which is why she includes doing these skills. She can do something unique nobody else can do. It also brings in a LOT of points. It should be a 6.4 not 5.9, Gabby wasn't tired she did the skill with aplomb. Her mistakes were mental not physical. She forgot to connect a skill and forgot a skill. That routine is jam packed with difficulty, healys, pirouettes, under bar stalder work blended with handstands, releases, and complex grip changes. Also it includes showing complexity on the low bar. You sound really dumb to think her 1st routine back after 8 years that she'd be perfect executing the most difficult UB routine in the USA. Smh.

    Even with the form breaks Sunisa's beam was of better quality than Jade. Her leaps, form, extension, rhythm were quality. Jade was just trying to get through it. She won this event with her consistency. Good for her! Gabrielle is not out of shape, she has been training for less than 1year! Gabby is still a quality gymnast underneath all of those nerves & self doubt. Her leaps on BB & FX were better than the winners. She has to put it altogether. I agree, that Gabby looks mentally soft as seen in her bb & ub performances. She just quit & didn't attack or fight for landings. On BB she landed the pass cleanly, but bumbled after raising her leg = mental mistake, indicating a major lapse in confidence. In the past, she's always had a bad meet with lots of mental hiccups. I think she needs a sports shrink. I fully expect Gabby will wake up at her next meet. This was her 1st competition in 8 years so I expected her to be rusty and she was. Gabrielle is the type, who needs lots of repetitions and competition. Her vault was good but she didn't throw her Cheng. Her choreography has improved, though she needs better music.

But like Suni, Gabby is running out of time to get all the pieces together. At Nationals, the judging is going to be a lot harsher because they want to measure the athletes against how they will be scored internationally. She is not going to get these kind of scores there. That doesn't take away the fact that I think it's amazing that Suni has been able to recover from her illness enough to do even this and that Gabby is able to perform at the level she already is.
