- Hi everyone - in this video I am out to the cliff for the day, freehand chainsaw rip a log in half and use that in my tiny cabin's back wall and begin to install the DIY milled boards for the back wall. I have always accessed the cabin from the back up until now, so there will only be entry through the front sliding glass door from now on! Although that is a very exciting thing, it's just going to take some getting used to. It's also making me want to prioritize building the extra side deck to make this a bit safer.
I do explain this in the video, but the reason I was making such a fuss about the lockers was because I was trying to make them a structural part of the wall as I am not framing this cabin in any proper way. I do end up giving up on that idea (not entirely, but for the most part) just so I can move forward with the wall board installation. So I install some rough cut, homemade milled 2x4's along side the lockers, and will make that look better down the road.
Skit time!!! I've had this skit in my head for months now, so finally had to make it happen 🤩 . (I was feeling long overdue for one!). Let me know what you thought about it. 🤭
(I have another one, or two, that I've had in my head for a while now also...). Should I incorporate more skits??

I love the routines. Some people might think you are kidding but my cats know what time it is and when it's time for things in their routine like breakfast, get the mail, vacuuming, scoop litter, go for a walk, treats time, medicines and bed time. My youngest cat, a long haired grey tiger loves watching your dogs. Her name is Meischelle, like the Beetles song.

Great video Michelle! I wouldn’t worry about making those logs perfect. Precision only goes so far. Then it loses its artistry. Part of the little imperfections are what make it yours and gives your creation character. Also, I love the way you play with your dogs. Reminds me of how I interact with my ol boy. He’s an adult until I do that stuff then all of a sudden he’s a puppy again. I love dogs, I just wish they lived longer. Each one is like a child to me. But as usual you made another great video. Keep the content coming. Love your stuff mud butt and all! ❤

I adopted a cat last week and from the crow talk on she was glued to the TV. She sits right in front of it and follow every movement with her eyes.
She also enjoys watch baseball so I've been getting into that this past week 😅

If you build a full bathroom inside that tiny house / shed, you can take showers whenever you want, just make it hot water on demand and you can do a rain water collection or source the water from the lake below just need to pipe /pump it up. Again, labor of love. And insultae the pipes so the water doesn't freeze coming up the cliff. :)
It’s totally awesome. I deck all the way to the shed to avoid the ground build up. Put landscape cloth down with crushed rock and you should be good. The view, WOW!!!

I know you know this but the locker wall is already perfect structurally. The knee braces at the outside posts and the large top cap make it a rigid structure to resist any forces. Anything else is just more blocking. You are so creative it’s awesome to watch.

You seem to never run out of ideas for these videos. Thanks for bringing us along. 2 ideas for you... 1 - a secret door out the back of the cabin, maybe through one of the lockers. 2 - a trap door for sweeping all the dirt and "work dust" from inside the cabin. Have a good week!

For vertical plumb on your freehand cut stud, use a plumb bob, very easy to get a straight vertical drop.
Rocks is a great idea. Plus extending the deck is also a good idea foa flat place to walk.

Great update! Also maybe look into a pair of Kahtoola microspikes for winter trail use. They can walk on straight ice. They're my favorite piece of gear.
I was going to suggest the same. Her traction device is useless.
I like my Hillsound Trail Crampon. Same was Microspikes but with an added velcro strap.
The dogs are lucky to have such a great human and we are lucky to have these great videos!

A speed square ( rafter square) is a handy tool for trimming boards. It acts as a guide for your saw. You're doing great.
I do use it, most of the time.

You are SO inspiring - I see that you have a bunch of wood in contact with the earth and you say that you have been using 'preservative' on the wood. Many offgriders who are building cabins use the method of 'burning' or 'charring' the wood as a natural preservative - seems to work well. Just a thought - keep on rocking girl !
Yes - that was my plan. However, when I was at the point to do that it was forest fire season with tons of them nearby, so torching wasn’t an option.

A rock patio with a block retaining wall in back would look nice, so would a wrap around deck. Looking good in the office. You have done such a good job on the cabin. Be safe .
Ah yes tending to the puppies needs a very important task. You have to schedule that time into your day or else they will feel neglected and having neglected pups is definitely not a good thing lol I have to agree muddy jean butts are a very cute sight to behold. On the process of making dimensional with a chainsaw, they do make a rip chain, rather than the typical crosscut. I know what you mean it does put a strain on your lower back.

The little cabin on the hill has a beautiful view. I don’t know why but the back wall being closed up made me anxious, like there should be another door on the uphill side. Two doors is totally impractical with a tiny house but it feels wrong without it.

Between your buildings make 4 inch terraces / steps to keep dirt from rolling down to your wood. You could slope them to the sides to make the water go around the base and soaking the wood. Great video.
Loved your crow speak. Then you said 'mill it'. Millet. Bird food. LOL. Was really impressed with Southgate's tricks. Glad to see all 4 walls in place. As for the glass it will be worth it.😊

Well you and I have already had the deck talk so my vote is wrap around deck all the way around the back too.
Get you a roll of sticky back weather proof membrane and stick it to the bottom board where you dug the dirt out then build the deck and you should never have any issue with that again.
The receptionist was very creative in not having to take any appointments.
But all the pets were totally happy with that.
I hope the snow and ice melt soon off that steep difficult trail to get down to your cabin.

Just got to love a front entry..glad the spikes work, when on the ice stamp your foot down so that the spikes dig into the ice
so glad to see you use those spikes in the beggining. i was walking up a driveway of a house i bought to renovate last year and the driveway was steep and a sheet of ice, even as careful as i was my feet went out from under me and i smacked my head on the ice and it rang my bell. i bought some spikes the next day and wore them every time i had to walk up that driveway.. careful up there, what you are doing seems fun and exciting.

If you can't get a level on it, measure it from both sides with a tape measure to get it centered(ish). I used to love making stuff with my hands like this. Don't know why you showed up in my feed, but I'm glad it happened. Great video.
