....I spared with some guy once, around 1992...I caught his elbow by accident... My toe was messed up for about a month..Maybe much punching to elbows may risk hand damage as well...That sparing match also hurt my arms the next day for a few days, as I was blocking a lot of kicks from a bigger opponent...Yet he had to get me to ease the pace a few times, so he could engage....I realize now, how cleaver some can be....And I advocate lots of protective gear, if one wants to build skills safely....
Alvarez is perfect example of this, Look at canelo vs avni, the guy was named the robot because of his tight guard and non stopactivity, yet canelo took his guard away so much he literally made it look like a heavy bag session with all his creative punching
If you only hit the guard, you may be telegraphing too much. That is my personal opinion. Or you are hitting too much in patterns, you are not unpredictable enough.

@VINCENTNATTI I dont think so, canelo hit bivols guard a lot during the fight. "footwork" is very vague
@@cannibrelbivols guard is very active, he parries and catches out of it alot, rolls with punches, and also switches to long guard from time to time.
