Healthy communication. This show and a lot of others in recent time have had this happen and it’s been wonderful to see. They both own up to their own parts in the whole thing, apologize and move forward better. It’s so nice.
It's rare to see in any sort of fiction, live action or otherwise, so it's really a breath of fresh air to see two characters deal with their issues, talk about it, and then learn from it and move on. It's incredibly grounded, which is why this show is more than its reputation of being "fanservicey." I know usually people stand firmly on one side or the other for subs vs. dubs, but this show is really good on both sides, too. The english actor for Wakana sounds so genuine and earnest, and Marin is bubbly without being overdone (and she's a voiced by a pretty crazy and hilarious V-tuber). This production really just hit every aspect out of the park.
The VA for Gojo, learned to sew and made this costume for Marin's VA, IRL. There's a fantastic video available of the reveal at an event in Japan, with the Hostess for the event cosplaying Marin in her school uniform. It's a must watch for anyone who loves this series.
This was the episode that really sold me on the show, and as something better than what we normally get. Gojos whole speech about feeling inadequate and he cant do anything right rings so true to all creatives of all mediums; we feel like theres so little time and when we have a project with a deadline, it feels like the world is crashing down. But then at the end of it all we push through and finish it, it feels so worth it because we remember the WHY we do it. And Marin was such a great change of pace; normally in these types of animes the girl will dismissively laugh at Gojos misunderstanding of the situation, but by showing genuine remorse and desire to be there for him wether to talk or bring food for him, she really brings a genuine and honest light to the archetype people would normally lable her character under. And its a big lesson for them both to communicate eachothers needs and shows they’re both open to learning from eachother. God I love these two so much 😭
the synchronized "communication." 😭 tbh pretty cool how in tune yall are. i've noticed in other reactions, sam and morgan often unconsciously mirror each other lol
Yeah Gyaru is a whole counterculture based on going against Japanese beauty standards for women and wanting them to be sexually pure and all that. So the girls dress very flashy, wear lots of accessories, get tans, and are usually sexually liberated. I think the super crazy tans and make up you see on Google are dying out, and now its just more hair and fashion forward, like you'll see with Marin, Momo Dandadan, and other anime gyaru.
This episode is such a gem ❤I absolutely adore the scene where Kitagawa realizes what's been going on and expresses her care and worry for him.....I definitely choked up a little bit during Gojo's breakdown too. This is such a special anime.
You never really know how much work goes into cosplay till you hear about in detail lol I love how knowledgable Gojo is and becoming the girl is brining him out of his shell a bit and there both so cute and kind
Gojo’s first reaction to Kitagawa saying that she didn’t mean that the cosplay had to be done for this event wasn’t anger or frustration about the effort he put in for no real reason, but instead relief that he didn’t screw things up for her says a lot about what kind of person he is. Kitagawa’s immediate grasp of what that misunderstanding meant and her reaction to it also says a lot about her. Both are just extremely empathetic and good people.
There’s actually an older anime about a group of “Gals” and the way they live the gyaru lifestyle. I don’t remember the exact title of it, but another reactor I watch mentioned how she’d watched it because Momo Ayase from Dan Da Dan reminded her of it
It's called "GALS!", created by Mihona Fujii. It's a high school slice-of-life manga that had an anime adaptation retitled "Super GALS!". Actually, Shinichi Fukuda, the creator of the original My Dress-Up Darling manga ("Sono Bisuku Dōru wa Koi o Suru", or "That Bisque Doll Falls in Love") draws Marin's more exaggerated reactions in a remarkably similar manner to the character designs in GALS!
I disagree about the spicy shots being "unnecessary". That is what the author is going for: that wholesome and spicy can go hand in hand. There is nothing wrong with it!
For real, they really couldn’t hold it in for ONE brief, ordinary shot without making a big deal about it. Feeling the need to point it out is what was truly unnecessary.
I explained it once about how since the show is about cloths and costumes, and about getting Wakana out of his shell the panty shots and such make sense and advance the story, unlike the Chun Li shower scene in the Street Fighter II movie
True. Actually them making a big deal out of the "spicy" shots/scenes in the anime is a bit out of hand. The show always puts us in the POV of Gojou, a teenage boy. Seeing sexy things and his reaction to them is part of what the mangaka wants to show. Ok, let's remove the spicy shots, just Wakana's reaction to them. It's going to be weird and disconnecting for us viewers/readers, right?
While I do agree that it's not exactly "unnecessary", I also understand where our hostesses are coming from. When an artistic industry uses sensuous imagery for base titillation as much as anime tends to, it's hard to imagine that there is an actual narrative reason for it when it comes along in a story like this. This is possibly the most grounded and realistic teenage romance I have seen in anime; meaning it's awkward, messy, and sometimes the things the other person says or does can make you uncomfortable, anxious, or even hurt. All of the "fanservice" is viewed from Wakana's perspective, and it makes him genuinely uncomfortable despite being curious about it, the exact way someone of his age would be. That is what makes those shots important to the story: it's two people who have very different attitudes about their bodies learning how to communicate with one another, the way you should in a close friendship.
It might be too much for them unfortunately, with how they react to this show. I know there is no “unnecessary” fanservice bc it’s all from Rudy’s perspective but it will probably be too much for them.
They would drop it after first episode man, they are too insecure about themselves to even handle fanservice without having visceral disgusted reactions to it most of the time. They need time to grow out of their insecurities before watching something like Mushoku Tensei. They'll get there eventually, even if it's after they're no longer making videos. One day they'll simp and get all excited about a male characters' fanservice scene/moment in a show and realize their double standard which will then allow them to broaden their perspective if they don't go down the road of willful ignorance.
Marin may have been uber nice and friendly with Gojo at this point, but seeing her break down after realizing he put her cosplay above every else is when we knew she was a real one. 🥲

Marin's style is actually a Gyaru just without the Tan.
Also Momo in Dandadan.
To clarify your point a touch... The dark tan is more so associated with ganguro, which is (to my understanding) a subtype of gyaru culture.
I mean, we see her in a tan later. 😅
another Gyaru to show up recently is in "Pluss size elf' when you give the plant girl coffee her looks and personality change

and I believe the singer for the opening has a video in multiple costumes.
OMG that is so wonderful. I totally have to check that out. That’s such a sweet thing to do.

We pretty much share a brain now 🤣 -Sam
You should also give The Dangers in My Heart a go, there's already 2 seasons out!

Knowing how to do makeup and hair qualities that are going to make Gojo a fine boyfriend and husband one day.
This episode really shows that the real wish fulfilment character in this story is Gojo and not Marin. The creator herself stated this.
17:57 Editor coming in with the jumpscares

Those scenes are super necessary.
The most head over heels moment have begun ❤
This episode was genuinely more stressful than most shonen battles
The next episode is my favorite for the one scene. If you know you know.
What a good woman Kitawa is. I wish women like that exist in real life too.
i love your reaction you should watching and react to the dangers in my heart if you loved my dress up darling it's an amazing show too

Yeah I agree. I understand that the west are very prudish. But that's how Fukuda wrote the story. And it should be adapted the way she wanted it to.

Dani is bestest.
Still pissed off how the live-action can't pull this off, worse the off-brand did better.
“Off brand”💀💀💀
❤❤❤❤❤
Haikyuu movie reaction when?🥹
Dear Editor, where is Morgans Costume picture? :D
You guys can see how this show got mis-represented, yall should give Mushoku Tensei a shot. One of the best anime of all time :P
Yeah no...I've read and watched it and it's undefendable in my opinion
