Chris, I just want to say thanx for all the great content and teachings. When covid hit I was newly divorced and had retired from playing music. I sat around a lot gaining weight and getting totally bummed out. So I began writing (a love from my past). Then I began drawing again, painting, and sketching. As a kid drawing came so natural. There wasn't anything I couldn't draw. when I tried again things weren't lining up. I was an acrylic artist in my 20's, did it a lot, even sold some art. But I wanted a challenge, something new. So I took on watercolor. Boy oh boy I was not ready for the match. It kicked my butt! The rules were not the same as in acrylic painting. I tried and tried, and nothing good came. So like most I began watching tutorials and practicing. Slowly I learned to control the water, manipulate the bead, whip the brush across the paper with less fight. I would love to email you some of the stuff I did when I began, and stuff after I began watching your videos. Truly, thank you sir. You helped someone so much and you didn't even know you were doing it.
Hi, I am so happy to hear about your journey and that my videos have been a part of it! It is so much fun to paint in watercolor, and I’m sure you will have much success as you keep moving forward! Great to be painting with you and lots more videos on the way 👍😎🍀🥂
Hurt people want to hurt people...it’s sad to see. I’ll never understand it, but it’s seen over and over again. Be sure that it’s definitely no reflection on this video or the artist! Both are amazing!
Thank you Chris for the first part of the video explaining angles and simplifying the drawing. I have not seen anyone do that before and it was extremely helpful. Great fun watching you do your thing.
Painted this one even though I knew it was going to be a bit of a challenge for me. The painting came out fair, but I learned so much. Thank you for sharing g your time and talent!
I love how your brush dances across the paper. It’s like magic. Watching you paint is so calming. One day....if I live long enough I will be able to paint with the confidence you have. Thank for sharing your expertise.
I really enjoyed watching this and I hope to try some things I learned tomorrow. Your humble and friendly way of teaching is so easy to listen to and learn from. Thank you!
I'm an amateur watercolorist so naturally I have MUCH more opinion than skill. :-) One of the things that fascinate me is at the start of these paintings I am thinking...well that's looking pretty crappy and will never work. But by the end I am thinking wow! I wish I knew enough to do that! Amazing! This one is one of my favorites as I love everything about the sea, beach, the birds and animals there. Maybe I am fascinated by it because I live about 500 miles from any ocean. I haven't seen one of your videos that I didn't like...at least by the end :-) Thank you for making them!
Hi Dale, your very welcome and yes....many watercolorists here on our channel including myself relate with your comments! Watercolors really do come together at the last stages of the process often. The more one paints it becomes less bothersome to the artist,.... faith in the process eventually wins over the doubts and fear. Keep the pedal to the metal and Happy Painting!
Thank you so much for sharing your passion and knowledge with us Chris! This is such a great video of your lovely painting. I am going to try the techniques you demonstrated ☺️❤️🙏

Mr Petri, I just found you and your channel. Oh my! What a blessing! I immediately subscribed! Your gentle, humble way of teaching is a breath of fresh air. Teaching how to see (and then put onto paper) the beautiful subjects, seems to come easily to you. That’s a true compliment, worthy of its recipient. I love your color palette. It’s...well, “refreshing” is the word that comes to mind. While I’d call your style a bit “loose”, it still maintains form, which is a combination that I find lovely. You’re a great encouragement to me, and make me want to believe that I can paint like this, too! Thank you so much for sharing your gifts with us! Sincerely, Jacqui

Hi Nancy, thanks so much for the positive feedback....much appreciated. :0) Yes, paper is Arches hot pressed satin finish. It's a gummed block with pink cover sheet. Happy Painting!
Chris, I like what you do, but I have a thought that might prove helpful. If I am a newbie and I cannot see what you are looking at,.........each step of the way,.........I am completely lost before you are 20 minutes into the video. I have no idea what you are measuring because I cannot see it. I have no idea what the shape of the tree is because I cannot see it. I have no way of relating to your explanation if I cannot see the picture in a reasonable size. A thumbnail would be far too small. If it can't be included as you demonstrate, perhaps panning to the painting or picture as each step progresses would help. It's clear that you are a good teacher and that you have a great deal to teach all of us................for that reason, it is a great disservice not to tell you when, why and how things aren't working for us. I enjoy your style and can see what a benefit it would be to follow you. I hope this can be worked out, I want to see more of what you do.
