- On June 19, tragic scenes unfolded as 54 people succumbed to toxic hooch in Tamil Nadu's Kallakurichi so far. Thirty more are in critical condition out of 165 patients admitted to various government hospitals. The dead include 48 men, five women and one transgender.

Ethyl alcohol processing in sugar mill is cheaper than country made distill - hooch (VAT).
But the liquor is costlier due to over taxation.
Implementation of gst on Ethyl alcohol without poisoning it with methyl alcohol will help a lot to poor consumers of liquor who are addicted and can't treat successfully in de-addiction centers.

Both ethanol(drinkable kind) and methanol are automatically produced during fermentation and distillation. Backyard hooch producers do not understand the technical details of how to separate the two. One way they test it is by burning the vapor because it produces different color but it is inefficient.
When someone says these people to quit drinking, they say everyone has to die at some time and feel as hero, Guess who is crying now , it is their families. No problem this doesn't change them , again people will go and buy alcohol from same Shop thinking what had have happened is just tragedy. Literally no one save a person, who doesn't give respect to their own lives.
