    I grew up going to Pismo, childhood man. It’s changed drastically since the 2000s. But still, Pismo beach will always have my heart.

    Wow! Was born & raised here, even walked all around here all by myself at night once when I was 5 or 6 in the mid-70's, often walked down here after school at Judkin's Jr. High right up the hill.
    Skating rink down at the end was the coolest, with it's disco ball and smell of popcorn and cotton candy, and the old pitted wooden floor. It really had a kind of old-time run-down carnival excitement here. Another door led up the stairs to a big arcade and slot cars track. In the 1980's, this strip had lots of arcades, even a classmate of mine's family owned one.
    Saltwater taffy shop has not changed ONE BIT since the 70's... The old theatre is now a sports bar and if I remember right, there was another one across the street where Paul Gilbert played with his band Mr. Big when I was in high school.
    So many memories.... So many flashbacks. Can remember checking the t-shirt shops, the smell of the thick color prints they used, and glass counter filled with stickers and bronzed skull figures and other shit an 11 year old kid probably wasn't supposed to be looking at.
    My memory is still vidid that I can remember the name of the guy who often had synthesizers and an Atari ST computer playing & singing, Mark Littlefield. I have no idea why.
    For a time, that whole area where the 'Inn at The Pier' is was a tiny kiddie amusement park. My Dad knew the man who opened it, and pretty much everyone else who ran the town, including good friends with the mayor back then. There's some crazy history of this place that I've been only learning more recently.

    I grew up in Pismo in the late 50's thru the 60's. Thanks for this video. There are still a few places that remain from that period, the Pismo Hotel, Bowling Alley and Harry's bar to name a few. Thanks again for the video. Beautiful job

    I've lived in California my whole life man and it sucks here. it cost both nuts and an eye just to live here and its so much bs from people laws and regulations. I've been trying to save some money busting my ass working on construction just to get the hell out of here but of course A it's hard to save money when gas is 4.50 a gallon and I have to drive an hour to work everyday and B everyone around me keeps trying to guilt trip into staying here

      Yeah, it’s tough times in California right now. You are a free man and can do whatever it is best for you. Even mean moving to a more affordable state. Best of luck!

      Yeah we lost our sweet spot in Ft. Lauderdale. I'm in construction to everything is so outta whack since Covid rents gone from $1800 to 2,800 people are really tight with the money. Thought this Pismo thing would be a nice little change maybe start a little restaurant.

      It depends where you are in CA? Coastline is the only place worth living in CA, but it is very expensive, and crimes can still happen? The problem I seen is houses/homes are so small 600-1400sq and can be from 3k to 4.5/Monthly 😭. I've lived CA, so I can understand other ppl who live there.

      I've been there many times. The weather in summer can be 60-75 and can get coldly. It's colder than LA, but I can't say much for SF since I've only been there like 2-3 times.

    It doesn't take a genius to look around and see this place for the tourist trap it is. There's almost nothing to do in SLO County or on the central coast. I grew up there and it's a shame to see what it's been turned into.

      Its definitely a nightmare during the summer and holidays. Everyone from the central valley from Fresno to Bakersfield all go to this beach. It's also the only beach in California that you can drive on the sand so that brings a ton of people too. I work in Pismo and never go downtown because of how crowded it is and the parking situation is ridiculous

      Werid I went to Pismo multiple times this summer, and there weren't that much ppl like back in OC and SD County beaches. I comfortably found free parking quickly. I made this my favorite town beach coastline destination.

    • @jlaughlin1973
      @jlaughlin1973 11 днів тому

      @AngelicoCiudad I can't even imagine how crowded those beaches get. In comparison, Pismo probably is much better. I don't know how you got so lucky with free parking, unless you walked quite a ways. All the close parking is metered. But, that's awesome you had good experiences. Maybe I'm just used to the rest of the year when it's dead downtown and the summer feels like absolute chaos to me. 🤷‍♂️
