Adum I agree with you about the Saw franchise. It's why I'm interested in the Scream franchise, because they don't do reboots and have to stick to one timeline and develop the characters (though they take it a bit more seriously, and scream is more like a horror soap opera lol). But in Saw the protagonists don't carry over and the antagonist is not just very mortal, he's been dead longer than he's been alive. I also hope they do the twin brother twist, like just have Saw 11 be balls to the wall and kill off all the loose ends / other apprentices then reveal it's his brother and continue from there.
This movie was so predictable and stupid, there are so many things wrong with it that it would take a day of nonstop typing to explain. I just want the movie to explain how long was he in Mexico for.
this mi movie was amazing, I love how they studied antisocial personality disorder and made the characters as sociopathic as they possibly could, the ending was a bit cheesy, but I like how they set up saw 11, and brought John Kramer back from the fuckin dead
Hoffman gets shit done, I feel its a guarantee hes in the next one

As a movie on it's own it's ok-ish but as a Saw movie It's miles ahead of how the franchise has gone

Them trying to make Cecilia more evil than Jigsaw by putting a child in a trap is really funny when you remember that this movie is set after SAW 1, where Jigsaw had Gordon's wife and daughter as part of Zepp's game and he was supposed to kill them if Gordon failed.
And don't forget Saw 3 where he traumatized an innocent child and got both parents killed
Saw 1 is probably my least watched even thoe it’s one of the best I totally forgot about that damn I liked her but that 180 they pulled with her character was so lame final trap was just so mediocre
If it isn't part of Kramer's plan then it is "immoral". He even shouted it out loud that it is wrong in the movie but if it's in the plan then it's A-OKAY!

You know what? I love the sheer *determination* of the directors of this movie series to stick to one singular timeline, for as messy as it is, to the end. Kramer died in 3 and all of this time we had to squeeze every second before that event when he was alive, but still that death is *final*

Considering Kevin Greutert said that he viewed this film as a final movie with Tobin Bell and one final gift to the fans after we waited 10 years for a REAL Saw movie again, I kind of view that final scene as a curtain call and bow to the fans as well as the polar opposite of the usual dark endings with a door or something slamming shut.

I think it all comes down to the fact that you can appreciate something as being a fun guilty pleasure while also being aware that it's all empty calories. While SAW 1 can be watched as a somewhat interesting, horror'y thriller in its own right, the rest of the franchise isn't exactly high culture. They aren't particularly good "as movies" and only occasionally dip into "so bad it's good"-territory, but they're still fun in their own way.
I think we all have stuff like that. Stuff we know is low quality but that we enjoy nonetheless.
Talking of hilarious scenes, Gabriella throwing away the tape and refusing to hear the rules just to have John cut a live promo on her was so fucking funny to me, I actually burst out laughing in the theatre.
She really got the VIP treatment

FYI in Jigsaw they DID explain that Logan was deployed in Afghanistan as a combat medic in 2001 and was in combat till 2008, so he basically missed the entirety of the Saw franchise, but he was there helping Jigsaw prior to Hoffman's recruitment.
Jigsaw began his killing career in Feburary 1995 (Year of the Pig, Chinese New Year) and he was active as Jigsaw until his death in 2006. He only rose to prominence in 2002, which is around the time Mark Hoffman committed his copycat crime.

So John had terminal cancer, and managed to live for 11 years, especially as an old man? Because his cancer and failing to end his life is what essentially kicked started the idea to become Jigsaw.

I think the reason we're forgiving how old Amanda looks is cause we'd rather have her look that old rather than them do a terrible job with de-aging CGI
My favorite line in this entire movie is when the doctor asks Jig saw what he does and he goes "I help people", I just couldn't stop laughing

Saw X, as with every saw movie, is filled with issues and inconsistencies, but when you compare it to the recent movies (spiral and jigsaw) and even a lot of the mainline movies, it highlights a level of quality and self awareness to me. Kevin clearly knows what people want and manages to give it to us which i honestly really appreciate
I'm not a huge fan of the series, but this was easily the best sequel. I liked that they kept to the "We're actually trying to help you people!" motto. Total bs of course, but it worked since Jiggy and Amanda seemed to genuinely believe their own philosophy.
Not to mention, giving John more character and charm, which was needed besides seeing flashbacks
Not that I don’t like the flashbacks, it’s just not straightforward storytelling for character building, but Tobin is the key to all of them

When I read that Saw X is the first film in the franchise in ages where it seemed like any of the victims were deserving of their situation, I ran to the theatres to see it.

Saw 6 Carousel trap is what you are looking for. It's an excellent sequence.

Now thinking back at it, really all the saw 6 traps Easton goes through reflect back some moral choice, simular to the morality of the trolly problem.

saw X was cathartic for me; it mashes together an actually awful person with a faildaughter of another grifter, turns those personalities up to 11, and then goes "see? see? look at how bad this person we constructed is!". i fuckin' love it. it's a massive fuck you to the Gersons, grifters who scammed cancer patients - and whose actions actually killed my grandmother

godsbless you actually, that's an insane thing to fuckin have to go through and i legit wonder if that was an intentional kinda symmetry with the character in Saw X to be like that. yeah if that was intentional honestly a big W for the people making the film who put that in to shit on those kinds of events, because it does look very earnest how they film it in the movie as "genuinely we fucking hate these scam artists too and can't wait for you to just see them all burn lol"
I watched this movie in an empty cinema with two other friends and it was one of the best movie experiences I've had. We were cheering, laughing, and joking the whole time. I've yet to find another franchise I can get this much enjoyment out of from a purely comedic side.
We even gave it a standing ovation when the twist came. There's just something so fun about pointing out all the flaws and ridiculousness of a story only for it to be "explained" a few minutes later.

It's funny you guys say "there was not many people in my theater". For the first time in maybe forever my mom, dad, and I went to go see a movie together and it was empty, it was just us 3. It was the best experience ever. It's like we rented out the small theater room to watch Saw X. Honestly what a blast.

I do like that this movie is a direct reference to the experimental treatment that John is denied coverage for by Umbrella Insurance William in _Saw VI._ (The description of the method John gives to him is the same as is given to him by Cecilia.)

I honestly think the biggest "twist" of the movie was that the chains could be removed without a key. Like, the key was just for show, and John and Amanda just had to fiddle with it to release it. That was the part that really made me go "What!?" in the theater
to me it read more that jigsaw thinks enough ahead to have releases on traps in case of situations like that, but maybe thats too much idk

“Earnest” is the essence of Saw. No matter how bad and stupid they are, the movies take themselves dead serious so it’s not a farce, people CAN get invested and like it genuinely, and they’re even funnier because of it. To me, they’re almost to Breen-levels of being unintended masterpieces.

I just love that they tried to make the seesaw scene with the kid getting waterboarded genuinely triumphant. I can’t help but laugh when Jigsaw turns to the kid and calls him a “warrior,” especially since Jigsaw has had no problem endangering and potentially killing children in the previous movies.
Still, I genuinely enjoyed the movie even knowing that it was bad. Like Adam says, they gave audiences what they wanted.
I fucking died laughing when right after that they hand the kid a big bag of money and say “let’s get you home” while the other two are fighting to the death in the next room, genuinely comedy gold
It's big time back pedalling. They trying to build 1-3 more films with Jigsaw as the anti-hero and tbh whilst its obvious, its a welcome change to the saw formula for me.
It’s hilarious but on the other hand interesting they’re doing something new rather than self-pleasuring to the gore porn yet again.

I love how this dramatic torture scene is accompanied by comical overacting. John Kramer is like "BWUUAAGH, BWRLHUHRUARGH" the whole scene.
I just love that Adum makes fun of Saw so much, yet is the biggest fan and knows everything about it.

the scene where Valentina just says fuck it and goes ham on her leg was awesome, was hoping she wouldve made it. but seeing the doctor woman gut her and say "we have a rope" made me laugh so hard in the theatre
It was so ridiculous it really was funny. But like noone would ever do such a thing, first I thought like something was in her stomach or smth.
My friends and I were the only ones laughing in our theater at that part it was hilarious
That moment felt to me like a callback to Amanda digging through her cellmate's stomach for the reverse bear trap key in the first movie. Of course, where the original film was better imo for showing very little, this shows everything.

Like the series went off the rails pretty much 2 movies in, so just lean into it, I always liked it when the series didn’t take itself super seriously when it came to the big twists.
they should even do what Origins did to COD Zombies, just wipe over the old stuff and start a new story with the same premise and same cool characters, no one cares bout the canon story timeline anymore

A standout moment to me was after John's "operation", you see his Newfound outlook on life and possibly a glimmer of hope turning him away from his work, specifically crumpling up the designs for the rack

@@orangeoak5319 He probably redrew it from scratch and thought about the flaws or potential improvements on the second go-around. Engineers rarely put version 1.0 of their designs into production.

As someone who used to LOVE these movies back in the late 2000's, hearing how more and more ludicrous these movies have become is just the best ever.

I watched this movie in dbox as those were the only good seats available and I died fucking laughing when the seat moved side to side while the girl was cutting off her own leg. This is the best experience I have had with Dbox or any movie add on in a theater.

Saw XI. A concept film about Hoffman trying to find any ways to survive in the bathroom. He's eating rats, drinking tap water, making tools out of skeletons the whole movie, picks apart the clogged bath and finds the key for the chain. He ambushes Lawrence Gordon and says "Didn't SAW this coming?" before drowning him in the toilet
41:00 had the same exact surgery when i was 19. i definitely felt some pressure on the skull right after but they were pumping me with so much painkillers i could hardly process it. i was walking within maybe a few days i’m not saying it’s implausible. but since he had nothing to compare it to they could’ve just pumped him full of painkillers to keep his head foggy and prevent him from thinking too hard on it

Yes on the AI audio, the scene when John is going in for the procedure and the femur girl / nurse greets him stood out so much I had to go back and watch it again to be sure.
Honestly I think the best way to follow up this is to do a SAW WAR... Hoffman going after Jigsaw Guy and Spiral Guy on his path to get back at Dr. Gordon...
I am so upset that Amanda is dead by the events of the latter films.

The tiki torch trap was also cooler in every way. It looks cooler, has a cooler method of execution, has a much harsher requirement to survive, and also makes a lot more sense to be hard to survive. Not to mention while Mateo didn't deserve his death nearly as much as Cecelia and her husband, he at least was in on doing something far more horrible than simply being a petty theif.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who never remembers how Spiral went and what traps they had... Already seen the film twice and I still don't remember what happened without prompting

@@ImTheHamSandwich it's also incredibly convenient that the guy just so happened to pass out/sleep in the office, giving Jigsaw plenty of time to sabotage his gun. As well as both he and his girlfriend just so happening to go up to the office at the same time, taking the money, and both getting locked inside at just the right time. My take on a saw in space would be that the teachings and beliefs of John Kramer balloon into a proper cult with many followers and that a small selection of this cult take over either a civilian spaceship built for long term space travel or a remote outpost on a distant planet where the games are held. There’s a trap where the vacuum of space is used, a trap involving zero gravity, and a futuristic take on the reverse bear trap. An AI John Kramer is made from police archives and voice recordings.
The twist is that he’s Luke Skywalker’s father, which is a split personality of the main character played by Ed Norton, yet none of this matters because it’s all an elaborate VR saw trap called the matrix. Post credit scene reveals Bruce Willis has been dead the whole time.

I'm glad I watched this at home alone, I gut-laughed during the ending "No jalar" scene harder than I have in a long time
I think the BS time limit is a sign that John actually wants them to fail.
I saw this on opening day with a smattering of other people at the screening I went to, the highlight was the autistic teenager (who somehow convinced his mum to take him) reacting with unrestrained delight to every bit of fan service like a comic book nerd at a Marvel movie

Honestly though, I've seen terminal Cancer patients who, after enough health decline, can very quickly look 2-3 times their age. That's part of what makes this disease so terrifying, the visual deterioration. Even with treatment, it can wither you away at least for a while to look like a grandpa in your 40s. I don't want to imagine seeing that in a mirror.
Mark Kermode pointed out that the SAW series is the MIlennium's Grand Guignol and I haven't stopped thinking about that since. "It is set pieces, visceral excess, strung together by a plot."

Hearing you two talk about SAW X on a Sunday morning is such a treat. I was giddy watching SAW X the night it was released in theaters, and it’s my second favorite of the franchise. The only thing i wasn’t as thrilled by, was the ‘final’ trap. Just having her survive is fine, but it also makes no since considering both her and her husband could have stayed alive. But I’m happy with the final product. Would watch it again!

I gotta say… even if the movie itself is the most worthless one ever made, in the entire history of movies, that grey-scale image of a guy screaming with vacuum tubes coming out of his eyes in an X pattern is worth billions. One of the most brilliant marketing strategies I’ve ever seen, you have to find out what happens to him.

I actually thought - for reasons unknown!! - that bugs would come down through those tubes and eat his eyes and brains. When I saw the poster that's what I thought it was! Then in the film, when I saw a machine attached and no bugs, I thought it was acid?? So you shoulda SEEN MY FACE when they sucked out his eyeballs!!!! Incredible. How did you know they were vacuum tubes?

I sort of spoiled it for myself by watching the trailer where Jigsaw mentions the vacuum. To their credit, it ends right when he breaks his first finger so I had no idea where the scene went.
So his eyes do get sucked out huh? As an artist, I think I’d successfully make the finger sacrifice. There must be more to the scene though, I’ll have to watch it when it gets posted online.
