TRUE CLASSIC CADILLAC! Oh, my, Lou! You have brought us a prime example of when Cadillacs were the standard of the world. Great color as well. Check out the stunning finish of the trunk! You simply don't see that level of quality these days in the surface coverings!
Great car, as are all of the cars in Steve Plunkett's collection. What a busy time you and your son had when you went to Ontario, Canada! Will there be more videos of Steve's collection in the future, or are we nearing the end? I would like to share a couple of things with you. Biarritz is in France, not Spain as Steve said. Biarritz is 22 miles from the border with Spain, so it is close by. The other thing is at 4:17 - in the Cadillac brochure. The artist's rendering in the upper left-hand corner of the page shows two men leaving a mansion walking to a Cadillac. I immediately recognized it as the mansion in Beverly Hills that was used in the Beverly Hillbillies tv show*. I did a Google search and found that exact vantage point from a video clip on UA-cam - right down to the trees, the light fixture to the side of the door, and the wrought iron chair that is tucked into an alcove. I would post a link (and time stamp), but I believe this is not allowed? Anyway, another awesome by you and your son. I would like to wish you and your family all the best in 2025. Good health, happiness and prosperity* The tv show debuted in September 1962, four years or more after the Caddy brochure was produced.
Hi Mike, Happy to read you enjoy this "Great car" :-) Yes, there will be more cars to share, so stay tuned. Thank you for sharing Biarritz location, and the Mansion location too. Good health received & prosperity too. Wishing you good health and prosperity also, Lou
From a Steve in Florida to a Steve in Canada, there just ain’t nuthin’ like a Cadillac (Rolls Royce and Bentley included)!! What an absolutely beautiful “luxury hot rod”. That blue is gorgeous! 1957 & 1958 are probably my favorite Cadillac years. Thank you Lou and thank you Steve. A betterer 2025 to you both and your families.
I always liked the trunklid on this classic Caddy with its fins and sloping profile that contrasts nicely with the brick-like front end. Really, tho, the whole car is great. Good job fellas !
Listen to you Lou: "eyeliner that drips off the side...." - with your knowledge and gifted ability to decribe in words what we are viewing, I really think you could author a nostalgic automotive book. This car seems to blend luxury with “sportiness,” so I’m okay with the “fuzzy dice!” A beautifully-preserved example of Cadillac excellence. With the brochure shown, it again brings back happy memories of my dad’s 1958 Caddy. Thanks for sharing, Lou!
That 390 tri-power is something else. Sounds like a heavy duty truck engine but would run circles around the Ford 430 let alone the 390. Much like the Chevy 348.
Remember a guy who had one in an Orange - Bronze body color and his interior was vertically pleated white leather with Bronze stitching in between each fold that were a few inches apart from each other. He referred to it as 'Roll and Pleated' and even appeared on the full top of the dash and inner door panels. Must have been a custom configuration, for I've never seen it duplicated in another Caddy. Was the most stunning vehicle I can ever remember seeing in Brooklyn during the 1960's.

Lou, one of the contemporary 1958 road tests matched the Fleetwood, the Continental and the Imperial. They criticized the front seat of the Cadillac, stating the cushion was too short. I haven't sat in one of these since I was a small boy; did you find the cushion short? This guy has an amazing collection and I love where the 1957-58 Cadillacs put the a/c vents right under the windshield, though I'd expect they'd be hard to reach to adjust. The sheer glitz and luxury of this interior really puts the Imperial to shame that year though the new-body Lincoln/Continental had more room. This man is truly a friend of your channel!
Never saw a '58 Eldo before because the '59's hog all the love. I'm hoping this body style ran a few yrs before the one year '59 excess. Love the blue.
Early Spanish explorers were looking for the city of Eldorado. The owner found his Eldorado with this gold standard vehicle! One could never be blue driving this blue baby on the way to a Florida lobster dinner!
The leather interior is called "Cape Buffalo" grain on ALL 1958 Biarritz. This is NOT based on a Series 62, the entire back half of the car is unique to the Eldorado. Gold Sabre wheels NOT offered in '58, last year for that was '56. But, quite a few folks dress the later ones up. There was a "gold tone" grill option, too. Factory AC dash vents at base of windshield. But no components under hood. '58 tri-power ("Three dual barrel carburetors" in Cadillac parlance), one year only deal, on 365" engine. Same set up offered in '59 and '60, but on 390" engine, which was wider. Biarritz is in FRANCE. Eldorado = "The Golden One."

Design oddity noted: all 1957 front bumpers sported very prominent bazooms a/k/a Dagmars...but the 1958 Eldo-Biarritz w/brushed stainless roof was the only model that retained the 1957 bumper design...all other '58s were wearing significantly redesigned bumpers. Did Cadillac have a few extra bumpers hanging around in inventory while attempting to cut costs on what was already a ridiculously high priced car to manufacture? Then at 4:58 you ask if you have missed the Eldo-Biarritz convertible. At 3:43 as the page is turned, there it is... So, no you didn't miss it--just forgot about having seen it 1 minute 4 seconds earlier! BTW, GORGEOUS CAR!
Hi Keith, Thanks for sharing your knowledge. Yeah, sometimes I miss or forget some stuff, and repeat myself because I'm so excited to be around some of these great cars, Lou
I remember this guy well. So nice of him to show off his cars to us. BTW I saw some little doors up by the windshield that were closed. Is that for ventilation? (16:20)
The engine in this particular Eldorado is a 365 CID, 310 bhp V8. The The cylinder bores were enlarged in the 1956 model year. 815 Biarritz convertibles were produced in 1958.
He's got a point about the fuzzy dice. It's a working class thing. The circa 1958 upper crust arriving at swanky places in formal evening attire (as artistically portrayed in the sales brochure) would not be caught dead with fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror of their Eldorado Biarritz.
Three 2-barrel carbs. The era of premium gasoline for $0.27 per gallon! Nobody cared much about mpg back when gas was cheap. Just bring in MORE POWER!!! 😈
What a car! Of course you know I'd love to have one, thanks Steve and Lou. Oh and btw, I didn't know that tidbit about the headlights either, but I've often wondered why they had such a funny name. T3
This car is stunning. It is Sophia Loren, Gina Lollobrigida, and Marilyn Monroe all in one. It's curvy, smooth, and oh so lucious in a powerfully sexy way. Well done Lou. Great video on a magnificent car.

@@loucostabile as a British man and car dude, I love the American designs from the 1910s onwards until the last of the few charismatic products of the 2010s (Dodge Demon, the last V8 Ford Mustang Bullitt) you can see why Rock and Roll was invented and exploded in the USA, nobody in the UK could create decent Rock and Roll in the fifties "songs about staid boring morris cars, going too church, the local greasy truckers cafe etc", is not really Rock and Roll.
This guy has so many great cars--what's his long term plan for them? The '55 thru '58 Eldorados have different fins and rear ends from the other Cadillacs. They started offering the gold trim for Cadillac's 50th anniversary in 1952. Biarritz is a resort town on the French Atlantic coast near Spain made fashionable by Empress Eugenie and King Edward VII. The official Cadillac pronunciation is BEE-ah ritz, the French have their own.
While it is accurate to include the Eldorado Biarritz as a member of the Cadillac 62 series., it is a greatly inaccurate oversimplification to call the car a gussied up 62 convertible. It is true that the Biarritz did share it's basic body shell with the 62 series convertible but in fact that shell was also the basis of the 1958 Buick Limited and Roadmaster convertibles. A unique engine power package, interior, and totally exclusive rear sheet metal design distinguished the Eldorado convertible and hardtop from their lesser priced Series 62 siblings. This color selection is quite stunning on this impressive example. I notice the original owner of this vehicle apparently elected to pass on the optional air suspension and gold colored grill selection.
One challenge driving a vintage vehicle where Steve lives in Ontario - his speedometer is in MPH, but Canada now uses metric KPH road signs. So you have to convert in your head!! 😂

A lot of the original equipment on this car seems to have been thrown overboard - I see air conditioner controls and vents on the dash but nothing under the hood - no condenser or compressor. Also the compressor and reserve tank for the air suspension, which was standard equipment on Eldorados, are absent.

Hi Floyd, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car too :-) Lou
Hi Michael, Happy to share this car with you :-) I believe those are air conditioner vents, Lou
Very nice (with AC!) I certainly would not turn it down, but the 57 is cleaner and works just a little bit better on the same body.
Happy to read "Very nice' :-) Thank you for sharing which one you prefer.
AC controls on the dash but no compressor or condenser under the hood.
The engine in this particular Eldorado is a 365 CID, 310 bhp V8. The The cylinder bores were enlarged in the 1956 model year. 815 Biarritz convertibles were produced in 1958.
Hi Michael, Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Lou
True Cadillac!
:-)
He's got a point about the fuzzy dice. It's a working class thing. The circa 1958 upper crust arriving at swanky places in formal evening attire (as artistically portrayed in the sales brochure) would not be caught dead with fuzzy dice hanging from the mirror of their Eldorado Biarritz.
Hi onemoremisfit, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the dice. Lou
Looks like a cadillac with the top up! Didn't know why he put it back down..
More fun with the top down when it's a nice day :-)
Lou, did Steve work for GM at one time? He is so knowledgeable of GM technology and procedures!
OldRustySteele, Not that I'm aware of.
Stupendous!!! ❤
High praise.
Stunning Cadillac! Wonderful condition. Definitely of the era.
Thanks Steve and Lou.
Hi Jeff, "Stunning Cadillac!" NICE! My pleasure sharing this one with you. You're welcome, Lou
Three 2-barrel carbs. The era of premium gasoline for $0.27 per gallon! Nobody cared much about mpg back when gas was cheap. Just bring in MORE POWER!!! 😈
"Just bring in MORE POWER!!!" Right!
Cork inner trunk lid. Absorbs moisture from the air.
Thank you for sharing. Good to know.
What a car! Of course you know I'd love to have one, thanks Steve and Lou. Oh and btw, I didn't know that tidbit about the headlights either, but I've often wondered why they had such a funny name. T3
Hi Randy, Happy to read "What a car!" :-) Glad to read you learned a tidbit too, Lou
Steve has one of the most amazing collections, very comparable to Ken Nagle's.
Hi steve20118, Both great collections...WIN / WIN :-) Happy to be able to share both collections with you, Lou
Biarritz is a wealthy beach town in France not in Spain.
That statement drove me right to the comments.
He got Seville correct.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

❤you gotta stop teasing us🎉
🙂
This guy has so many great cars--what's his long term plan for them?
The '55 thru '58 Eldorados have different fins and rear ends from the other Cadillacs. They started offering the gold trim for Cadillac's 50th anniversary in 1952. Biarritz is a resort town on the French Atlantic coast near Spain made fashionable by Empress Eugenie and King Edward VII. The official Cadillac pronunciation is BEE-ah ritz, the French have their own.
Hi Ralph, Thank you for viewing and sharing your knowledge. Good info to know, Lou
Thanks!
Hi Dave, SUPER THANK YOU FOR THE SUPER THANKS! I appreciate the support, and it helps to be able to share the cars with the Viewers, Lou
HI Stude289, Thank you for sharing what you notice, and sharing your knowledge, Lou
One challenge driving a vintage vehicle where Steve lives in Ontario - his speedometer is in MPH, but Canada now uses metric KPH road signs. So you have to convert in your head!! 😂
Well we're usually on a slow enjoyable cruise so I'm not thinking we're going over the speed limit.
Nice 😊
Hi Michael, Happy to read "Nice" :-) Lou
👍💯😎💯👍
:-)
Bob Hope had one of those.
He had this one too. ua-cam.com/video/m4gt4D4I4u8/v-deo.html
I wonder why the '58 Brougham kept the diagonal front bumper from '57. I much prefer the '58 bumper on the other models.
Thank you for sharing which bumper you prefer.
1958 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz was guzzied up 1958 Chevrolet Impala, with wings and more chrome

A lot of the original equipment on this car seems to have been thrown overboard - I see air conditioner controls and vents on the dash but nothing under the hood - no condenser or compressor. Also the compressor and reserve tank for the air suspension, which was standard equipment on Eldorados, are absent.

I think it would look better with just the sloped back without the fins.
Thank you for sharing what you prefer.
Exceptional design. . . :>/
High praise.
Let's not forget Calais, another French city!
Thank you for reminding us.
Is Fleetwood Spanish or French?
Fleetwood is an English surname. Notable people with the surname include: Adam Fleetwood, British racing driver. Charles Fleetwood (died 1692), English Parliamentary General and Lord Deputy of Ireland.
For everyone's information, Biarritz is pronounced Bi-ar-ritz . Have a great year everyone!
Hi Brian, Thank you for sharing the pronunciation. Wishing you a great year too.
Biarritz is a City in France; Seville, Spain.
Thank you for sharing.
No words,…they should’ve sent a poet
:-)
BLUETFUL
:-)
Why are the commentators unable to pronounce Biarritz correctly? It is not difficult!
Hi Sandy, I'm just learning how to pronounce CAT AH LACK :-)
Heute braucht man in Deutschland für so ein Auto einen "Waffenschein"!

Mike......someones gotta do it :-)
Some old people have no taste or nostalgia at all. So dull a life
Nice car. I laugh at his pronouncing the name Biarritz.

I don't recognise any of today's Cadillacs. A Cadillac is not supposed to be a sports car, ah well!
Hi Dave, Other than an Escalade, I'm not sure Cadillac is paying attention to Cadillac today :-) Lou
That exhaust is missing proper resonators....way too loud!
Thanks for sharing what you heard.
Get those dice out of that car.
