Perfect!! Just bought the Yamaha CP and want to play some Steely Dan on it and your tutorial is perfect for me to learn by. I play instruments by ear very well, but dissonant keyboard chords are beyond my abilities. The way you highlight it in the green on the screen like this is PERFECT for me: I just need the finger placements, I can do the rest by ear, thank you!!
Very cool. I'll look forward to giving this a try, as well as any other Steely Dan videos that you do. Definitely among my favourite bands! Sounds like your instruction is very clear and the piano graphic will be helpful while following along!
This is great! Thank you for this! I play mostly by ear and this helped immensely. I was playing the majority of it correctly, with the exception of a few parts. This cleared it up for me!
Thanks for the comment! Yeah I hope to get around to many more Steely Dan songs in the near future. Unfortunately right now I'm having trouble finding time to film, but that should be resolved soon.
Very helpful! Thank you. A mention RE: Chord #3. You named the chord; I think the chord Name would be E aug (+ 9). Given that the C Note is correctly in there, so B being the natural 5th. I appreciate you doing the Work of finding of finding both the chords and the voicings! I LIKED…and Subscribed.
fantastic!! I have the complete Steely Dan piano book but all the keys are off and a lot of the chords are simple - I usually play by ear and their catalog are usually just out of reach (not the best at working out the slightly more complex chords)
Nice job! Is that a Whirly EP 200 in the background? I had one like that many years ago but now I have a Kurzweil SP6 that does that sound and many more.. Keep up the good work!
Hey man another sublime video! You're really making quarantine a fun time;) I don't know if you do requests but as you've previously done great tutorials for 'the dans' more abstract and rarer songs, is there a chance you could perhaps do "yellow peril" at any point!! No sweat if not I'll take any content I can get! Keep up the great content :)
Also, if you like Yellow Peril then I definitely recommend listening to "Brain Tap Shuffle" by steely dan. I'm sure you may have heard of it already but man what a great song
thanks for doing this man, youtube is such fire for musicians these days

Thank you for your patience in explaining the song.Guess my rudimentary inversions won’t cut it now!

Thanks for the comment! Yeah Steely Dan songs are so much fun to listen to and learn. I'll definitely be doing more tutorials for their stuff!
Hey mate, another Smooth jazz and nintendo lover here. Thank you for such a detailed tutorial!
Excellent...nice job!
Thanks much! Well DONE
i think on that turnaround part, the first chord is actually F#m7 instead of F#7.
this was perfect
Thanks make more, please............Subed
Man, I don't hear an F6 in the intro.. I hear an Fmaj7 (maybe 9)

So many chord changes crazy! Its gonna take me a month or more to learn this one haha
Thank You So Muck!!!! You're the Man :)
Thanks brother!
If I started playing the very cool bass line on the elec. piano while playing this song, our bass player would pull my plug!
Nice! Hoping you'll consider breaking down Dr. Wu, Kid Charlemagne, Don't Take Me Alive, and your previous cover of The Goodbye Look.

I imagine this wonderful song as an a cappella arrangement .

Sure thing! I can't promise I'll have it done really quickly but I'm always open to suggestions. Thanks for all your comments!

DSstudios of course! I know these things can take time, thanks anyways! Aha yes yes, it's one hell of a tune you are not wrong there :)
DSstudios in the meantime stay well and keep safe :)
It is essential to tell someone you teach a song to what key its in. First thing!!
Licks or riffs works - please not TRILLS?..
Such a helpful comment...not.
