    Salute to John Pilger. I recently watched "A Fashionable Tragedy" covering the famine of 1974 in a newly created, war torn Bangladesh. The compassion and thoroughness with which he covers any of the events is exemplary. The documentary is applicable even today, as Bangladesh is facing political turmoil currently and it is being predicted that another famine is coming up in March 2024, exactly 50 years later. Another documentary to watch by John Pilger is "The War You Don't See" about war coverage and how it leads to wars. My respects to Prof Tariq Ali for all his work.

    I was able in the late 80’s (U.K.) to get a foothold on the property ladder, I followed the the advice of my financial advisor, everything seemed to be going well, not just for me but for the majority, for a brief moment in time I thought the human race was going in the right direction, but little did I know the parasite that was growing inside capitalism.
    Everything is difficult now, for all but a few.

    Anger at the world is a natural state for people who can see the world and current developments objectively. What is plain for me to see at the moment is psychopaths in high and low places, getting away with their criminal deeds. It absolutely infuriates me, but once you can actually see it, you can never go back. I am in the process of embarking on a spot of historical reading on the collapse of the Roman Empire, it pays to learn from history I think. The West will be earning some karmic blowback eventually, everything moves in cycles. The guiltiest countries know who they are. It will be very interesting indeed watching how things unfold in the next ten or twenty years.

    since the 2016 election I've changed some of my positions/views on Bernie Sanders and even the EU. I'm burned out and no longer Feel the Bern. John Pilger, Chris Hedges, Paul Street and the Black Agenda Report team have been vindicated (I'm going to exclude much Counter Punch's Jeff St.Clair and Eric Draister who I felt went too personal and were unnessicarily harsh on Bernie and his supporters) even John's positions at times I felt were too harsh and unfair on Bernie. But! but Bernie has endorsed Anti-Russia conspiracy theories thereby discrediting Wikileaks and throwing his supporters under the bus and didn't support his delegates and campaigner's DNC lawsuit. That plus the fact he's for socialist reforms at home but imperialism abroad most notably in Syria, Libya, Ukraine, Venezuela, and doesn't support BDS or the democratic one state solution for Palestine and signed a letter saying the UN is too mean to Israel. Have that as leader of the Democrat or any party? no thanks! and his foreign policy is essentially what we see in Yemen and Syria with 'Saudi Arabia and The Gulf States taking a lead and getting their hands dirty' forgetting they are the ones who export ISIS and Al-Qaeda and unleash terror.

    The main obstacle in fighting neoliberalism is the political left-wing. Too many leftist parties are not able to brake with capitalism. Look at Venezuela and Bolivia, two nations that never broke with the capitalist system despite the massive rejection of it by the people. Now that their state-capitalist projects are failing, the governments of Venezuela and Bolivia are resorting to authoritarian methods to stay in power. Maduro is already making a lot of deals with the ruling class in order to stay in power. Despite the anti-capitalist rhetoric of many leftist parties, none have offered the working class a true socialist alternative. What workers do not need is populist leftism or nationalism with massive flag-parades. Workers need a party of their own, that fights for their class to take power!

    Those who are very critical of US or West always have one particular feature about them - they make logical turnaround and transform Russia (or any other non-western country) into right one. But evil deeds of US foreign policy don't negate automatically evil deeds of Russia and its flaws. Europe and US have no issues with independence of Russia until Putin annexed Crimea and invaded easterm Ukraine. It was kinda hysterical move by Putin and it's understandable in part because of historical bond between Ukraine and Russia and because of base in Crimea. But Russia itself got angry over Ukraine's deciding to move towards EU (so Russia didn't want independence of Ukraine and dismissed revolution and people's will and labeled it a coup as authoritarian nations always do). Referendum in Crimea was a fake one, there were no international observers except right-wing marginals with no legitimacy - 95% of votes? 95% is only possible in dictatorial countries like Northern Korea. And Putin's having 95% of approval is a fantasy. Where's Pilger getting his numbers? Putin had 70% approval, today he's less. And we also should have in mind that state-funded center that asks people about president is very biased and gives fake data. And also we have to understand russian's psyche - since 2014 they get that they should be more careful in their assessment of state and its president. So it's plausible to assume that they lie or say what state wants them to say. And elections are always rigged in Russia. One thing that NATO did wrong was to try to encircle Russia. There is major miscommunication between NATO and Russia.

    • @Janemas
      @Janemas 7 років тому

      Crimea is very very very happy they are not a part of Ukraine.

    • @HarinderJadwani
      @HarinderJadwani 7 років тому +2

      Crimea used to be part of USSR, was given to Ukraine as goodwill gesture. It's Russia's only warm-water port and would have been a NATO naval base if Putin hadn't taken it. Major media doesn't report massive US-backed NATO aggression in Ukraine - the biggest buildup of armed forces on Russia's border since Hitler. Very dangerous situation which Trump wants to wind down. That can't be permitted by the war-mongerers of Washington. So their new weapons of mass deception about hacking,. US has major initiatives - CIA coup d'etat in Kiev which created the new cold war - and massive fracking investments in Ukraine by companies backed by Joe Biden's son.... the usual fog of lies, deceit and 'fake news' by the Western media.

    • @robertwill23
      @robertwill23 7 років тому

      Berg Djelderian
      Don't be ridiculous. Geez. There is no hard evidence of a coup. Or one US official going around and giving out cookies is an evidence of US coup? By saying it you just blatantly denying will of people and desire of people to change their circumstances, you denying mere fact of people's ability to resist. And Ukraine's people did have very corrupt state and very dire situation. Your allegations is mere conspiracy theory. There are no evidence whatsoever aside from conservative conspiracy theory blogs' fakery or exaggerations.

    • @robertwill23
      @robertwill23 7 років тому

      Harinder Jadwani
      CIA coup d'etat? Delusional much? There are no evidence of that. But may be you count giving out cookies by US official as hard evidence of CIA coup? LOL. Crimea was part of USSR but it was Ukranian since 50s. And many ethnically russian people were send to Crimea forcefully by Stalin. And many indigenous tatars were deported by force from Crimea to soviet republics. So ethnic history of Crimea is very complicated one. And Russian future president Yeltsin did sign agreement with Ukranian authorities in early 90s to give Ukraine independence and leave Crimea in Ukraine's jurisdiction. And Ukraine disarmed itself from nuclear weapons in response. That was agreement and Putin broke it. And he did it in uncivil manner by producing quick rigged fake referendum without international observers. Sorry but narrative is more complicated than your conspiracy theory blogs suggest.

    • @HarinderJadwani
      @HarinderJadwani 7 років тому +2

      Really? The greatest buildup of NATO/US armed forces on the Russian border since Hitler is hysteria by Putin? If he hadn't annexed Crimea, NATO would have built its naval base there. The US carried out the coup in Kiev because it has massive fracking investments in eastern Ukraine, led by Joe Biden's son, CEO of one of the major companies operating there with massive CIA activity to encourage Ukrainian neo-Nazis to persecute the Russian minority. Evidence? The US is the one which faked evidence to destroy Iraq, the greatest war-crime of the 21st century so far. War with Russia could be terminal for this planet. The demonization of Putin follows classic US (controlled by Rothschild and other elite families who own the Federal Reserve and IMF and have the world's most corrupt, terrorist and war-criminal country in the world (USA) in its pockets, along with the senators, congressman and even the President. Obama has been the perfect front man the ultimate Uncle Tom. Check out johnpilger.com as one source, or tomdispatch.com, or chomsky.info. Of course they are simply 'leftists' that people like you will dismiss is commies. The US a Christian country? Not if Jesus spoke the truth when he said no man can have 2 masters... its either God or Money (Capital). And no reasonable person can conclude that the US is the world's leading SuperPower and SuperPredator.... murdering millions of people for money. It has secret wars in over 135 countries....900 bases around the world to intimidate and rob the planet. Evidence!

    With all the truly deserved high respect, what Pilger says about Sanders here is ill informed crap.

    • @Yourismouter
      @Yourismouter 7 років тому

      funny I just posted that. Pilger I don't know where he's getting his BS about Bernie Sanders, but he's obviously been hanging out too much with the guys of Counter Punch who've always complained Bernie isn't left enough, anti-war enough, and ok there is some criticisms to be leveled about him, but Bernie is clearly inarguably better then most, and for Pilger a media critic, someone who champions indigenous rights, and was against the Vietnam war, and Iraq war, he should be applauding Bernie, so Corbyn is more left then him, so what, Bernie Sanders is incredible and he would've won against Trump, has a pretty good track record, and his foreign policy was not more right-wing then trump, was a ludicrous statement to make. I'm almost gonna stop taking Pilger seriously like I will with Keith Olbermann his Russian paranoia. pity to here this nonsense coming from Pilger who is my journalistic hero, but he's simply wrong on Bernie Sanders.

His pathetic campaign this time around, failing to really highlight how awful Joe Biden is and continuously calling him my friend, telling Russia to stop meddling in our elections, he didn't support the DNC lawsuit, he called Chavez a dead communist dictator, he allowed a loophole to continue the war in Yemen, doesn't speak out for Assange but does for crooks like Nalvany, and supports destabilizing China. So much more but yes Bernie is a social imperialist.

    Bernie Sanders didn't deserve those crowds, and a right-wing foreign policy more then Trump? what the fuck John, I'm almost gonna stop taking you seriously with your Anti-Sanders, stop hanging out with the people at Counter Punch or whoever is smearing Bernie as not being left enough for you, you and Ali were more generous to the Trump and Brexit movement then Sanders and yet you both praise Corbyn give me a break. and while a lot of people who voted for trump said they would've voted for Sanders if he was the nominee I can assure you many of the people who stayed home to not vote for Clinton or trump many were Sanders supporters who while they liked Jill Stein and the Greens thought it would be a wasted vote. And Sanders would've won against Trump much studies and suppressed polls showed that. Trump's triumph was mainstreaming bigotry, brexit was mostly a xenophobic campaign and a pathetic media which failed to show the pros and cons of the EU that when you watched or read it you were more confused then well informed on the EU and leaving. Most of the people who voted to leave later in the most google searched checked out what is the EU, what countries are in the EU and what does it mean to leave to the EU. i'm sorry but the Anti-Sanders sentiment while praising Corbyn is showing you have some Anti-American bias. and I say this as someone who admire John Pilger. oh and Putin is an oligarch as well, he was VP under Yeltsin, and as the equally brilliant journalist and mythbuster Mark Ames said, the only reason why the US doesn't like Putin is he's not their SOB.and if Bernie wasn't soo much different from the rest of the Democrats then why as WikiLeaks showed John, they felt so threatened that they sabotaged his campaign?

      masthan001 I agree on that, and corbyn is much better on this, as well as anti-drones, and anti-nuclear weapons then sanders but sanders did have many people he hired to help write the democratic manifesto like cornel west, keith Ellison, and a Palestinian academic to try to make justice for the Palestinians part of the democratic party platform, and though sanders never apologized for a crucial vote he did that funded weapons to Israel's slaughter on gaza, he did speak out about what Israel did, spoke out against bibi Netanyahu, and did when pressed from people speak out against the mistreatment of palestinains, that saw him champion their cause and responded to a petition max Blumenthal of alternet did demanding he not attend the AIPAC conference. and many of the BDS movement and Palestine justive movement were part of his campaign.
