Australia has had a "skills shortage" for 30 years and still hasn't solved it despite the millions of permanent arrivals during that time. That's because the skills shortage is a myth created by the business lobby. Skills are learnt, not imported. If businesses can't find any workers, as they often claim, they need to offer more competitive salaries or use automation to operate more efficiently with the workers they do have.
Australia is becoming a 3rd world Country with a huge price tag.. Australia is disgusting when it comes to house prices. Greed is evident everywhere here.
All old houses in my area are not sold just pulled down to keep the building industry going. Many are replacing the old house with another same size house. It's a rort.
Just goes to show, those R soles in government don’t care if a big percentage of the population will never be able to buy a home , because due to the cost of living, they will never be able to save enough or afford the payments. And if you have ever wondered why the crime rate is so bad , and why our actual birth rate from long time citizens in this country is piss poor , people cannot afford to have babies , it’s simple maths , when a big percentage of the population is in hard times , having a family is the last thing on their minds . Not enough coppers to do the job , hospitals, ambulance services , all under stress. Wouldn’t it be nice if we got politicians in power that gave a stuff.
It takes 3-4 years to train an apprentice or for someone to complete a university degree. The so called 'skills crisis' could literally be solved in one electoral cycle by simply funding university and training places for native born Australians.
Housing, Health Care, basic infrastructure- roads, shopping centres, electricity, water are all under stress. There is not enough of anything to go round and the it's the Australian people who suffer. It would make sense to reintroduce the baby bonus and increase the population naturally rather than importing it.
Ok, let's make this clear that immigration is not the main problem here, it is contributing in some percentage, let's talk about investing funds buying hundreds of houses, let's talk about creating a temporary cap for investors who owns many properties, and let's talk about affordable interest rates for first home buyers and change down payments for your first home from 10% to 1%. We all know that the housing system is one big business, and most politicians also benefit from that unbalanced system. So keep saying immigration is a problem when most of those immigrants leave in share houses using 100% of space, paying ridiculous amounts of money for renting just a small room so rentier can buy his 10+ investment using debt and othere colleral properties to easily take another loan. This is just a short and quick explanation of reality.
6:00 "The migration program is bringing in the skills so we can build the houses" What nonsense. The reason for the massive shortage of housing is that govt migrates people into the country faster that govt allows extra houses to be built. The Federal govt brings in many migrants. Local govt refuses many subdivision applications. It is far harder to get extra houses than it is to bring in extra people. It is not a shortage of construction workers. There is a shortage of permission to build. IF THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF CONSTRUCTION WORKERS you would find the value of a vacant block would crash to near zero and construction wages would soar. Rich construction workers would be picking-up 2 or 3 cheap blocks of land and building houses on them and selling them for a motsa. Is this happening? Shit no. Construction workers cannot afford to buy vacant land because there is a shortage of vacant land (with permission to build) and NO SHORTAGE OF CONSTRUCTION WORKERS.

Why does a house need to increase year on year??? What advantage does it make?
@@williamcrossan9333 exactly, 👍 that’s the whole point of the exercise. Make housing so unaffordable that eventually you’ll rent your home from BlackRock and you’ll be happy! Genuine common sense and the truth about Aussie real-estate from Leith is sadly missing in our nations “capital”.
For years there’s no housing waiting list for immigrants. They are housed on day of arrival. Australians should be housed as a priority. Not to mention the other exorbitant perks, which the issue is that there were Australians sleeping in the streets who had houses and jobs and now I’m not helped with the very taxes that they have paid.
Exactly what Labor said, and when they put the new Housing Bills, the Coalition and Greens voted against it.
@ one presumes the greens would be in favour of housing immigrants ahead of the Australians who’ve been on the waiting list for years.
Leith, you hit the nail on the head. If you have a pie chart with a % set aside for each sector of employment you would reveal a broken model. In recent years the number of gov employees has sky-rocketed, the numbers of dole bludgers blown out. The numbers of retired or semi-retired has grown. The pool of workers is disappearing.
Most migrants in my area are pushing brooms and carts in supermarkets. I spoke to a builder next me who briefly employed some migrants, didn't go well at all. Coles & Woolworths are packing them in but again they soon disappear.

The main problem in this country are the lazy Australians, and not the hard working immigrants.
The Minister does not have a clue about housing
6:00 "The migration program is bringing in the skills so we can build the houses"
What nonsense.
