    I cannot remember if i made another video or not - but i sourced another replacement motor from a 1995 e320 and the sunroof now works perfectly.

      My least favourite job on the w124 was setting up the tilting and sliding sunroof. It’s a nightmare for the uninitiated and i spent so much time fiddling with it to get it right i never was able to make a video about it

    Hello,
    First of all admirations for your videos for w124, they are really helpful!
    I have a w124 where the sunroof is not moving at all, I think that the problem is the motor...
    So the question is, as far as I can understand from the video, I need first to remove the cable and after that to remove the motor from the car.
    Did I understand correctly, and if yes, is there any to remove the motor from the car when it's connected with the cable?

      Biser Yordanov can you hear the motor doing anything at all when the switch is being activated? As far as im aware you absolutely must have the cable disengaged to be able to remove the motor.

    • @NXTorge
      @NXTorge 2 роки тому +1

      To remove the headliner of the sunroof the sunroof has to be completely open. There are 4 clips that you have to loosen with a flathead screw driver and pull it out at the same time. The head liner ist then removed towards the front of the car and out of the sunroof. After you removed that you can reach those 2 bolts holding the cable.

    thank you for the sunroof videos, successful installed the sunroof in my w201.
    But only thing is the front is to high :-(..
    And i have to take a look at the new rubber that's not deep enough.
    Have to go back and figure out how to fix that.
    But so far i had a lot of use from your videos, hoop you keep it up.

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому +2

      Hans Riemsma the front height is adjustable. But if the rubber isnt right this needs to be addressed first. Be warned that all the aftermarket sunroof opening seals appear to be garbage. I used a second hand original one in preference because it was still perfect after scrubbing clean.

      MMWA the rubber was bought at the mb dealer. 💪
      Thanks on the tip. Ill post if it is fixt.

    How did you take the lining down for the sunroof??

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому +1

      I would have showed the lining reinstall had this p.o.s. motor not been a colossal waste of my time. The lining is clipped on to the lid at the front edge, it is a case of opening the lid to the right amount, unclipping then pulling the lining out from above the car.

    Do you know how to power the sunroof motor with a 12v source? I'd like to power some in the junkyard instead of hand cranking the emergency knob.

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому

      D C yes you can power it with aligator clips and 12 volts at its terminals. However the power supply / battery needs to be able to supply at least 15 amps. I don’t recall the pinout off the top of my head and will not have time to find out for quite some time. If you have one spare you could experiment. Best of luck.

    So at about 1:40 you say it's a matter of an electrical connector as well as two bolts. But then you said "as long as the cable is disengaged". For the one motor at a junkyard I'm trying to remove, they didn't let me bring in a 12v power source (battery) into their facility. I can only crank the roof manually.
    Once the electrical connector and those two bolts are loose, how do I click out the guide tube on both sides of the motor to remove the motor since I have no 12v power?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому

      you MUST remove the cable from the motor. You can pull the liniing of the sunroof (destructively with no power) and unbolt the cable end at the sunroof lid (2 bolts) then you can drive the cable easily at the sunroof motor emergency manual drive nut. once its loose from the motor just yank it from the inside the car. Removal of the motor is straight forward then, you will have to unclip the tube from the motor leading up the c pillar. The first time i did this i sat inside the trunk upside down swearing a lot. But once you work it out its easy. Take a light with you to see how it clips in it is pretty straight forward.

      @@MMWA-DAVE i thought that unclicking both tubes at the motor IS what is considered disengaging the cable from the motor?

    • @nehuge

      @@MMWA-DAVE also on a seperate note, do you know if a facelift mono wiper works on a pre facelift car? I like the facelift one that you can remove the cover on to lubricate instead of taking the whole assembly out to lubricate instead like on the pre facelift models...?

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому

      David C that method is kinda brutal on the motor but it may work, thats just not how i did it. I think it is possible to force the tubes out while the cable drive is still in place. If so just cut the cable once youve got it out far enough. If you try this method let me know how it goes

    • @MMWA-DAVE
      @MMWA-DAVE  4 роки тому

      David C it probably does fit, but arent facelift ones also black instead of that chalky gray colour of pre-93 cars?

    Are you sure it's not the car's battery? Maybe if the engine is not on (of course, at the moment there is no engine) the battery struggles to operate ancillaries that require certain amount of power.
    Try with a fully charged battery if you haven't already, at least it may be worth it before going ahead and purchasing a new motor.

      Apex Seal i have a 40 amp regulated power supply I use for such activities. Its set for 13.8v and doesn’t drop when the motor is stalled and the current shoots up to 20 amps. I’m going to buy another motor and another set of angle brackets and try again. Its fan is what’s audible cutting in and out in this video.

    I'm not happy with this motor, I'm not happy with these angle brackets. I'm not happy with this sunroof at all. I HATE sunroofs! With the cable disconnected I can move the sunroof by hand without excessive force. I do not know why the replacement motor is having such a hard time, it must simply be a piece of junk.The original has much more power.
