    Being brought up a clarinet turned trombone player, sloppy fingering was something we were always taught to avoid. I see the even-more-extra need in pipe playing. Thanks for your videos, Matt!

    Hello Matt. Have you ever tried Connemara Whiskey, Peated Single Malt. I bought a bottle for my husband as a Christmas present. He, being Irish, says that's the best Whiskey ever

    First off I love the videos. They are really helping me learn! But out of curiosity, maybe i haven't gotten that far yet but how do you tell the difference between lifting grace notes and tapping grace notes when looking at the sheet music?

      Tapping grace notes are below the theme notes on either side and lifting grace notes are higher than the theme notes on either side. Hope this helps!

    Slurring....? Probably caused by an excess of Glenlivet, or Glenmorangie, or Auchentoshan! 😂😂😂 Sorry....couldn't help myself!!!

    Hey Matt,
    I've been using Frazer Warnock practice chanter reeds and I've had a lot of difficulty with them shutting off during embellishments. I've tried using less pressure but they drop in both pitch and volume significantly when I do. Is there any practice chanter reed you would suggest that is more tolerant to larger pressure?
    I'm currently eyeballing the Abbott Slims for no other reason than lonestarpiper mentions this specific attribute in their description of the reed. I can't seem to find any reviews that mention them solving this particular problem.

      That Abbott will definitely take more air the the Frazer, which are quite easy reeds.

    Hi Matt. I have been loving your videos and working through the Basics Series step-by-step. Can you please help me with finding your episodes 9 and 10 of the Basics Series as they are not appearing in the Basics Series ‘Playlist’. Thank you.

    How do I know if it's a taping grace note or a lifting grace note

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  2 роки тому

      If the gracenote is above the surrounding notes, it’s lifting. If it’s lower, it’s a tapping gracenote.

    Do you recommend any books for perfecting things like doubleings etc?

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  4 роки тому

      A good book for technique is James McGillivray's Rhythmic Fingerwork. In the meantime, I have a only playlist on technique here: ua-cam.com/play/PLc21D3cFD-pjrN2pm657hTmkI_f3FSSqQ.html

    Hey Matt,
    First, great videos as always👍😂
    Second, I've got a question about my chanter Reed. After playing it a while it had two tiny black spots in the upper right and left corner. I play multiple times a day and always take the chanter out and put a reed protector on it at the end of the day. Is it just dirt or something (it still sound very good)?

    • @MattWillisBagpiper
      @MattWillisBagpiper  4 роки тому

      It could be dirt, but black normally means mold... Could you email me a photo? matt@mattpiper.com
