I commend you for actually including the super fast communication part. A lot of people ignore that and think they are a hive mind, which isn't true. Skritt can be summed up as a massively ADHD race, and the more skritt there are, the more ideas are being communicated and thus focus is increased. Singular skritt? May be super focused and can be used as a messenger. May be bouncing off the walls every time they find something shiny. In Heart of Thorns you can find a female Skritt who has entirely forgotten about her mate, because she wandered into the Golden city.
