Wouldn't it make more sense for countries to focus on building a well-rounded highly skilled population that can specialise in multiple fields so they don't have to depend on other countries for products and services?
Good stuff but it would be a bit better if it differentiated between so-called "free trade" and what practically all FT agreements are "managed-trade" agreements. Perhaps better articulation that true free trade is a perfectly natural state of affairs. However, because prevailing mercantilist mindsets typically have interrupted that natural state for so long, removing the barriers may have become thought of as "building".
Isn't there a natural connection between the degree to which true free trade can be practised and the convertibility of the currencies used by the countries engaging in the trade. In particular doesn't a country which uses a fiat currency like the US dollar have a perpetual advantage over another country which does not with which is trading ? The country with fiat currency can simply print as much of it as found necessary to maintain it's advantage in absolute terms and the fictionalised concept of a national debt for that currency has no theoretical limits.
You have that backwards. Free trade is the natural state and tariffs and other barriers are what was erected. A move to freer trade is tearing down those barriers not building something.

No, free trade is basically having the right to do whatever you want when it comes to trade. Making more wealth can be a by product since nothing is stopping you from for instance to gain 1 trillions dollars through slavery if you want to. A bit of your logic is flawed. You state free trade isn't natural because people had to work to remove obstacles in order to achieve free trade. These obstacles, however, are artificially created upon false premises and paranoia. If we exam smaller systems, even on the community level, trade exists, naturally too. So the fact that imaginary lines on map and the masters thereof hinder trade does not mean it isn't natural. Therefore they are unnatural, not free trade.

Free trade has become a node for discussion, and what they focus on then is "Free Trade Zones", which are basically a way for Western nations to exploit workers and get their goods into the country cheaper, and sometimes without running them through customs, because they are used in manufacturing at the same spot, which then are put through customs. On your point, national borders today are the result of a long time, a lot of conflict, a lot of migration back and fro, and there's also a lot of natural borders. not to say things don't change, of course. They change all the time too.
Yah, I am 100% in favor of a completely free market capitalist economy and completely free trade. My only issue with free trade deals, however, is that they (by definition) have government involvement. I don't want free trade deals. I want our country to simply remove all of our barriers to free trade with every other country. My view is simple: "Government, stay out of our economy." Remove all tarrifs and remove all regulations. Let the people interact economically with one another as they see fit, without government interference in our lives.

I think that if a currency is abused then eventually it will fall to it's true value (zero)
