Working in the surveying field, we utilize the PLSS every day. I can tell you from working so close to KY, which pretty much doesn't use the PLSS at all, that having a way to narrow down a property location by a national grid is much easier than using local geological features or even roadways.
Great presentation! Labeling a quadrant or a quarter of a quadrant is easy. But here's the question that's stumping me as I'm learning the PLSS in my geology class. How do you label a tract of land that's rectangular in a township? Whether they're vertical or horizontal, it has me stumped.
Jason Heavner The tract is a bit like those old and sloppy basic parcel of land using geographic markers. This helps: legalbeagle.com/8433677-difference-between-lot-tract-land.html
FABULOUS Facts! blessing 4 geoligists but a nightmare 4 the starving hippie? i got to buy to many maps to cover the entire " Suture Zone" and the "island Arc Terraine's.........HELLLLLLLLP! i.m drowniing in USGS topo's
i have surveyed in nc for 20 years. we dont use the public land survey. It is so much easier to survey than the PLSS. Your way sounds easy but try laying out a perfect square grid on a globe. IT DOESN'T WORK. Errors are everywhere. sounds good in theory but not practical
Very nice, concise explanation of the PLSS. Great job!!
This was so helpful and straight to the point. Seriously thank you.
Quasia Jones And thank you for your support. Happy Explorations!
