Watch professional guide and Rapala Pro Angler, Tony Roach demonstrate how to fish the Rapala Husky Jerk for walleye. It's a versatile bait that can be cast and trolled and is equally productive.
(From shore) I usually cast as far as I can, rod tip is straight down or low to the left or right reel hard for 10 seconds to get the lure down to where it should be, then a slow reel for 10 seconds then pause for 3-5 seconds then 1 or 2 pops, then start over, towards the end of the cast unless you have allot of rocks in front of you DON’T be quick to pull the lure out the water when it gets 5-10 ft out, instead mix up the reel, pause and twitch why the lure rises to the surface. It’s like giving the fish that may have trailed the lure their last chance, I’ve had plenty of last chance bites. Happy fishing!
Exactly
Great Video, I fish Lake Ontario Piers at night for walleye and the Husky Jerk #12's are my favorite bait in May,June and early July. When the water warms I throw Shad Raps through August, Sept, then back to Husky's in Oct, Nov. Rapala has me covered for the entire season
24 1/2 Walleye last Monday off a husky jerk. Not bad for January in 38 degree water. Thanks for the awesome lure!!!!
Good lure! Had a pike on the 3rd cast straight out the box
Just bought this lure, tried it today, caught a walleye within 15 minutes, AWESOME!
sweet just got me the DHJ-14 now to head on down to where the big pikes are and reel one in.
I prefer countdowns myself. Never did that well with husky jerks where i live. Also shallow shad raps work well for me too but only bluegill color size ssr7
Best lures! Hands down my favorate lure got me a 42 inch pike and alot of my other fish this year and last year!
Ulk889you
DAMN! A 42 inch pike! I thought some of the 30-33 inch Northern Pike I caught were good size.
We had a great pike fishery up here in washington long lake but now they gill netted it so hard lucky to even catch a small pike now. But our state record came from out of there. Use to be 40 plus inchers in there like no tommorow its realy sad! Now all i have to look forward to are tiger muskie and i prefer my northerns more than anything
@@darrinminkiewicz6714 Dang. That is sad. The good news is there is good and greater fishing in other parts in this big world we live in. There is also the ocean too. Along with The Great Lakes, Further North. Big Rivers
Really amazing
I love me some husky jerks, inexpensive and deadly!
great clear water natural bait for finicky bass .
why are you using a split ring 💍?
Shouldnt you be tying the rapala knot directly to the lure?
Man you forgot the most lethal part of the jerkbait - the pause!! I get more dang fish on the pause than bringing it in.

I like this lure because it's suspendind
Ola mis amigos soy de costa rica y quisiera saver si aqui ay algun provedor o tienda que venda señuelos rapalas al por mayor grasias
I bought a bunch of dhj-12's for trolling but can't find any thing on how line, depth chart for trolling??
Look it up on Google rapala trolling. Chart it shows every lure made by rapala how deep a particular rapala will swim at and even what pound test line to use
I might have to go back to my Deep Diving Husky Jerk. I think it’s the DHJ-14 in the UV Green. I HAD TWO BITES LOST THEM BOTH! SMH 🤦🏽♂️ either the hooks were too small or I didn’t set the hook quick enough. The 1st strike felt like a Walleye. The 2nd one felt like a Bass.
Or your drag/pull was to tight.
Let me swim with it.
I got a tarpon with my hj-8
Are they good for creeks?
How can you tell the difference from a husky jerk and original floater?
A husky jerk doesn't float, so testing it in water would be really easy. Also the loops that hold the hooks look different between the two baits.
Husky Jerk got beads that rattles inside
the only rapala that works for me.
What kind of rod and line do you use for trolling husky jerks?
+Rapala well what is tony using?? I'm looking to troll jerk baits for walleyes and any trolling charts for these lures??
Is this lure for saltwater?
I would use the “Rapala X-Rap Saltwater” for saltwater fishing. And or the “Rapala X-Rap Magnums”
They are both tougher, harder, and more solid, saltwater hook choice
Or you’ll catch a lochness of a northern!
