I bought the original 'Trade' 16" version four years ago. I don't use it as much as you do but I love it. Mine, though, already had the Pégas blade-tensioning system (identical to the one on your new machine) when I got it. The only change I've made to mine - that is, after the three-year guarantee had expired - was to remove the pesky NVR switch box at the back, over the motor. Having to reach over and reset it each time I stopped cutting was more than an annoyance. I have replaced it with a foot switch (a Proxxon) which was the best modification I could have made. Now I have instant start and stop by the depression of that foot switch. This model is made in the same Taiwanese factory that made the original (and identical) Excalibur saws as well as others labelled by half a dozen other names. Strangely, none of the other sellers of this machine feel the need to have an NVR switch box on it, only Axminster do that. I have also made a large, sturdy, moveable timber trolley for mine onto which the unit is securely bolted. I have designed the trolley in such a way so that the work table of the saw sits at the same level as the trolley's table top, thus expanding the work surface area over threefold. The lockable castors under the trolley mean I can move it around my workshop/studio area. This is a good video, Phil, and it should introduce a lot more people to this wonderful tool.

This is basicaly a rebadged Pégas saw, so that has put me off the Pégas already. 7 Years is not a long time for a saw, even if it works every day. Pégas obviously designed the saw but they are manufactured in Taiwan. I think I will hold out for the Hegner Multicut SE that also has a foot switch and foot operated speed control. Thankyou for your video and hope this saw does better than the previous one.

Thanks for taking the trouble to make the video. I smiled at how you jumped when the saw went 'pop', we get the same reaction when a blade snaps. One thing that confuses me is you are using the saw it fails and straight away you said "that's it" and buy another without checking what went 'pop'. The first thing I do when anything does this is check what went wrong and try to fix it, often it is something simple like a capacitor etc. Even if you wanted a newer model you could keep it as a spare if you mend it. (of course you may have checked and not mentioned it) I don't know anything about this range but the Axminster looks the same as the Excalibur range to me? I use a Hegner and a Diamond but the diamond is not used much since I bought the Hegner. You can see my machines on my channel. Keep up the good work. John.
It was so much more of a scare than a blade breaking. I had repaired the machine with a new control board which was recommended by Axminster. It ran fairly well for a week but had a strange issue with the saw speeding up and slowing down even while not cutting. This sometimes resulted in the tension coming loose too. So with it being so close to Christmas and the amount of orders I have on to complete it was a very painful decision to buy a new machine but I am keeping it to figure out what could have caused the issue and hopefully have a good 2nd saw as a backup. They are very similar to the Excalibur versions. The new blade clamping system on these are super smooth and a joy to use. I will be sure to check out your channel
if a saw only last 7 years then in my opinion is not a good saw-------I have used my Hegner for over 35 years and runs as good as the day I bought it-----------
Just bought the professional AP406SS Was a bit disappointed the top arm doesnt swing up . easy blade changing but when your doing inside work you have to turn the hold down to one side to make roomto fit the blade in the work but hey ho life .i might try doing away with the hold down ?
The hold down comes straight off for me but it's there for a reason I guess. If it's in the way I would say try without it and see but be cautious. As for the arm not lifting. It should, it looks the same construction. Maybe it's just really stiff. Have a look at your manual. It will have an adjustment
Just got this....keeps blowing fuse within seconds. Axminster gave me a report number and will get back to me. I'm livid, I'd boxed this weekend off to get stuck in.. any suggestions? The big green on button is vibrating as well..😢
Which fuse is it blowing? The plug or the little glass one at the back of the machine? My old one blew the glass fuses, and the only thing I could think was some over voltage from the motor. If it's the plug and the trip switch (big green button) is vibrating, then possibly a wiring issue with the trip switch
@@philscraftcorner Hi yes, its the glass fuse. It trips the fuse box in my house, I've tried 3 times with the same result. I've had a crappy little £80 scroll saw for 6 yrs, never given me a problem... Lords knows how long it will take for them to collect and repair. I'm so not happy 😕
@CTID it's such a shame that is happening. Honestly, these are amazing saws that will be an absolute game changer when you get a running one. Axminster customer services are really good. Every time I have needed assistance. They have been really quick

She suggested I visit a supermarket and ask for a large crisp box!! You can't make this up...I've refused, she is speaking to her manager and will get back to me. 😢
It's a shame your old saw died. The only thing you would have needed to change would have been the blade clamps. That's it. They are the reason it runs so quiet and smooth, no need to change boards and motors, JUST the clamps.
