I think it was (Quilter) Bonnie Hunter who said if you have a fabric that you don't like you haven't cut it up small enough yet. However I think she meant that you mix those little pieces up with lots of other fabrics and they blend or disappear better. I do agree that cutting fabric up is very therapeutic.

I think the little hands look more like sunshine when you cut them up. My stress levels when cutting will only go down when I take a trip to buy new blades for my two rotary cutters.
You’re right, cutting fabric is not so relaxing when you have to muscle through it with a dull blade. Changing blades is such a downer, I procrastinate changing mine as long as possible which is bad.
@@mostlyquilts1386 I bought several new blades today so there's no excuse for me to use a dull blade, it was wonderful just gliding along with a new blade. Hope you try it soon.
Speaking of dog bandanas lol. I think the fabric with the handprint would be adorable for dog bandanas and cat bandanas for animal shelters. I actually love what you did with the random cut fabric. I think that's a really good idea to do to fabric that you're not in love with. Just cut it up into weird shapes and throw those all into your crumb bucket. I think that once those fabrics that you consider ugly are surrounded by other fabrics? You may like of them in that realm. Maybe you can make a postage stamp scrap quilt with all the 2-in squares? Maybe make a challenge to yourself to cut up lots more of fabric you have fallen out of love with into 2 inch squares and then use them all together in a quilt? Bonnie Hunter also said that not to look at a fabric in relation to the pattern necessarily but like a color palette and I agree with that. I'm a firm believer in using ugly fabrics. I think using ugly fabrics sometimes push us artistically. Though I also agree with the idea of if you bought something before and you have fallen out of love with it, then donate it to a fellow quilter who doesn't have that much fabric or a charity.

A lone time ago I switched from thinking ‘Do I like this’ to ‘ Does this make me happy’. I have been on the same side as you per Facebook. I love the hand prints. I think you choices of cutting was right on. Asking questions of your viewers is a great way of connecting us to you, but my downfall is I answer you out loud. Keep up the good work. I am enjoying the videos very much.
I think what happens when you cut the fabric into small pieces or strips is that it becomes simply color. and you can go smaller - go to 1.5" strips- and they really do become just color. At that point, the actual design of the fabric doesn't matter - just the color/s. I use it this way often in scrap quilts.
That actually is a really good idea. I hadn’t thought of that. Especially the stripy zig zag print would be good just to combine with the scrap bin. I think I’ll do that.
Hi Nora, only once did I comment to a posting from a family friend, in sort of a negative way. Suggesting she could express her point without swearing so much. In response she said the most hateful thing to me, swearing at its worst!! I was heart-broken! I don't think fabric cutting would have helped but its worth a try!! Social media is a blessing in so many ways but can also be very stressful. I took the Facebook app off my phone so I’m not checking it as frequently. That helped me a lot.
I thought the zigzagging quilt would do well with that technique where you used black fabric and you kept sewing scraps and then you would add some more black stripes and so scraps kind of looked like Stainglass. I thought this exactly fabric would do well with that technique. I also agree with others that the hand prints look like suns . I think if you didn’t know, they had been hands, one might think that.

All those blocks have to be mixed up in a tub with all your other scraps...bet you like them better in a scrappy quilt.

Sometimes when I make ugly fabric into yo-yos I like it better.
