  • UW Housing & Food Services (HFS) sustainability manager J.R. Fulton works with students to make life at the UW as sustainable as possible - and that includes making use of the rain Seattle is so famous for. A 125,000-gallon cistern filters enough rainwater to provide the 3,000-5,000 gallons of water a day used to do laundry at Mercer Court. And that’s just one of HFS’s many earth-friendly efforts.

When it comes to environment sustainability, UW Housing & Food Services and UW students dare to do more: Solar panels on the roof, a cistern that supplies rainwater for laundry, an on-site farm that provides produce to UW Dining - these are just a few of the features they collaborated on to make Mercer Court the UW’s greenest student housing.
