As a free to play player, I’m really upset with this change. Now, I find that my blue tokens are useless. All excitement of buying a golden pass and just the exclusivity of it is all gone. There just isn’t much to grind for now. I am seriously considering quitting the game. This is a really unfortunate change.
The worst decision that could possible happened with this game was became F2P, i not going to spend 20$ on two Golden Pass for same Season, a lot of games like Fortnite, Fall Guys and others do better battlepass and even give you the next one for free if you managed to complete it. The 83% of the playerbase don't bother to complete the pass, and now more people still not gonna do it.
I cant stop feeling this is a really sad day for Speedstorm lovers. The changes are awful from any and EVERY perspective, but I think the people affected the worst will be new players...I really dont understand the strategy behind these changes, we need the game to grow its playerbase and this will only make people run away!!
The strategy is to shackle the playerbase as hard as possible with the Disney franchise that everyone is drop dead loyal to and commit you to spending. Disney Speedstorm as a product is for them to make money, not for you to enjoy for free. They are strictly business. Even if the playerbase is just 100 as long as those 100 players are spending the thousands they need to profit it doesn't matter. It's as simple as that. F2P is just wahhhh wahh cry babies who don't impact their actual earnings. It's insulting to video games as a form of art. And you can't expect much more from a mobile company.

I'm already aware of good monetization practices even with F2P games. I support the likes of Fortnite and Overwatch with my bank account. It's offensive in Gameloft's condition because the game foundation is garbage. The balance for the game is garbage. 95% of the seasonal content is recycled every season. Barely any actual new content gets added to the game, the AI rubberbanding is fixed AF. They are losing players and rather change the game for good they're locking out as much of the f2p and trying to drain tf out of the people who actually pay by overcharging and decreasing rewards from stuff. And lemme tell you something. Most people who are trapping themselves are doing it only for the concept of Disney being a kart racer because aside from the cartoony driving physics alone which isn't even praise worthy, the game is just objectively bad in every other right. The whale players have to remember they are a tiny percentage of the players. If there is no players logging every day, the game servers will be shut down.
All the changes are bad and this is going to be the worst season of all. I was super excited for the Ralph season, but I now I have lost my enthousiasm.
I think that these changes to the pass could affect the number of players who play the game, I'm F2P, and the fact that I can play to win characters was one of the factors that made me like the game so far I'm only missing 2 characters that I couldn't unlock it but with these changes what will it be like? for example, next season probably either Vanellope or Ralph will be on the gold pass, I like both of them, the other characters don't interest me much, I'll have to play with them because I have no other choice but to spend money
I'm definitely going to take a wait and see approach. See just what you can't get, what's locked out by not having them, etc. But yeah, I'm not optimistic.
They're making this game worst for newcomers and pro-F2P players. I don't see why Gameloft is making the state of Speedstorm very shaky by being more greedy. If Gameloft wants to get back the player's good graces; they need to do the following: 1) Make Ranked Multriplayer regulated to make the mode balanced. 2) Provide more ways to get Tokens in-game: Bring back Leaderboard Events with Tokens as rewards, have a tournament mode with Tokens as prizes, offer Tokens in Season Tour, etc. 3) Reconsider on making the Golden Pass only purchasable using real money 4) Increase offerings of Golden Pass Tickets/Tokens. If Gameloft continues of making this game more P2W than F2P; this game will die.
A ridiculous change. I'm sure Gameloft will kill this game off sooner rather than later. Complete greed. I have over 3k tokens if I wanna buy the pass with the currency ive paid for i should be able too
Disney is probably pressuring them to make the game a cash cow. I’ve dropped more than enough money on this game and have essentially gotten nothing from doing so which makes me realize I’m only wasting my money. I’d like to see true value in the money I spend on a game. I hate the fact that you have to play every day to complete objectives. Limited time events are annoying in my opinion since I would love to play another game for a while. I’ve accepted the game is no longer one I will play much at all with the amount of poor decisions the developers have made. It’s no longer fun and feels like a chore to grind objectives. I will say that you do a great job overall when it comes to explaining the F2P perspective but you still need to understand that you get support from people that donate money to you so you can spend more money on the game. I’d still love the game too if I could use donations to buy in game currency.
Honestly this isn't just Disney, Gameloft in general as a reputation for doing this, even now Disney stuff. While I wouldn't be surprised if Disney does push, I think the blame also has to lay also at Gameloft
They should keep the golden pass as is or have it both ways, pay $ or spend tokens. They could also make it cost season tokens. (I think that’s the right name, the yellow ones) like maybe 100K which you can get easily if you save up and do that daily or semi daily event where you get roughly 15 or 20K for doing all the objectives. For the season tour keep the changes except, previous chapters are locked the second “part 2” goes out.
I was really looking forward to the new season but with this I will end up uninstalling the game, I really like the game but it was already difficult to compete against people who pay and with this it will be much worse.
It's just more proof that F2p has no home with speedstorm anymore. Even more crazy, is the new pressure on already paying and "grandfathered" players. Because they can no longer use their pile of tokens either, they have to use fresh money for the next golden pass. I grinded two seasons worth of tokens, now useless. Also will be terrified to spend them, because if they walk back the pass purchase decision I don’t want to burn a resource I’m not quickly building up. If I still see ridiculous hard stops and requirements in the first new half, good chance I’m uninstalling.
I think FOMO is the main point you made & what games that have a giant roster of characters prey upon. A lot of gamers are completionists who want to own every character & finish every pass.
The premium golden pass is much more than unlocking the premium character. Sure it's the most valuable reward but there's also lots of upgrade materials, season coins, cosmetics, crew member shards including the premium racer's epic crew
Yeah, but the game come to P2W, Maybe you need to speed $60-80 to get the new skins, Premium Golden Passes and other things, and the game will be broken if the new Racers are Meta, and the multiplayer will be dead because not to much people play in high ranks, and now will be less players
Ive been playing since the game came out FTP. I bought every pass, have every racer, upgraded my favorites racers to lvl ~40 and now Im definitely considering quitting the game. Ill wait and see.
Glad I was able to use my tokens to get the golden pass for Ariel last season before they changed it. One question tho, since their are two season passes does that mean we have to pay for both golden passes

Just when there were questions on how long this game will last, Gameloft really put the nail in the coffin for f2p. A shame because there are more casuals than banks playing this game. ultimately I expect a large player drop off after next weeks update. Hopefully Gameloft walks back this decision. I would really like to see a video where you make a sincere skeptical analysis of the numbers of players online, in steam and others platforms, and whether Disney Speedstorm is going to have many players logging every day through this whole year or whether the numbers are going to keep decreasing. Baldur's Gate 3 has proven without a shadow of a doubt that a good game can and will be profitable and sustainable if management respects the devs, and the players time and money. Seeing Speedstorm go down such a greedy route every single patch is extremely disheartening.
I'm still confused at to what, if anything, this means to people who paid for the game before it went free to play. What happens to the tokens that came with purchase, are we still able to unlock golden pass without money? Will tokens be turned into golden pass credits?

I don't get who they split the golden pass like that. Looking at the most popular battle pass game, Fortnite, you only have to spent $10 to get the 100-tier pass, and that's to get the currency for the pass. I was saving tokens for this next season since it would be the first one without having the golden tokens, but now I guess I won't be doing that. There's also the fact that as someone needing to save money right now, I only have so much I can spend on games right now. I don't have the kind of money to invest $20 into this game every two months. I was fine with most of the changes in the game up until now, but this might be the end for me.
I just have one question. Will you be able to purchase the golden pass for each part individually. So the first month I would be able to spend $10 for the golden pass part 1 and the second month I would be able to purchase the golden pass for part 2 for $10. This would be ok with me because it would be only $10 a month.
I redownloaded this game because I saw you could get nbc and muppet characters. the menu is all screwed up and confusing. I thought the change would make it better but it sucked
I dont like this at all, but luckily I already have my favorite characters unlocked and at high enough levels. I'll still keep playing f2p and see how it works out. I guess I'll just spend my tokens when something interesting pops up. I'm also still looking forward to all the new music that will come with new seasons, I just hope that there will be enough single player content to play with all these changes...
I mean the changes are probably fine for content creators because as a creator do you really need to worry about the expenses? So even players who do PtP might not like the changes either as it’s getting too expensive. Changing the value of our tokens to absolutely nothing is ridiculous so then is saving them all this time always pointless?? Creators are buying their tokens anyways so this doesn't mean that the game is getting much more of their money, but it does mean that people will quit the game, and that's really bad for creators.

This is garbage, I ground out the tokens I needed to buy the pass for this season. I play this game everyday to earn the things I want. My dedication will not likely continue after this. Not a good move! It's too bad as I did enjoy the challenges and daily rewards but I am not interested in forking over $14/month. This may end up on the shelf like the last book I read...
I think i might also be done with the game now since they introduce this... locking players out of events that require you to have premium characters is greedy... I spent £27 to play early, and im not spending anymore than that on this greedy game. I will stick to games that allow gamers to grind without restriction.
As much as i think these changes are the worst Speedstorm has ever been I hope they change it cause it this rate they are destroying this game and if this continues and sorry for being morbid but they game might shut down or die off and all the work and hype that players from all over the world have had with this game would be gone and i don't want that to happen. So I hope they fix a lot of these problems like if you can't buy the golden pass with money than they should give you an optional solution like through the season tour they give you items that you can use to buy the golden pass. No matter what im staying I may hate these changes, but this is the most fun i had in a Disney game in a long time. Hope that the future of Disney Speedstorm gets better cause I don't know how much longer the game and the fans can possibly take.
Is it even reasonable to call this Free to Play. I truly don’t think so. There is nothing free about any of this. Lemme just pay 60-70 bucks to just play the game with friends and family with Season Passes to get characters! Like no. This is NOT what we should be doing Gameloft. Whoever is in charge is being EXTREMELY greedy and using this game as a means to get rich quick.
