Singing spirituals helped to save my people during slavery. The hidden messages in the music that they sang informed them when the time was ripe to escape and whether or not slave catchers were in the area. I have been a Muslim for sixty years. I’m 71. I chose Islam for myself and was the second in my family to do so. I cannot imagine not being able to listen or sing or share with my friends songs of praise to Allah; and, truth be told, I love other forms of music as well and cannot imagine a world without it. Emma Goldman once famously said, regarding the Russian Revolution, “If I can’t dance, it’s not my revolution.” I believe that if 18:31 I couldn’t sing or listen to the music that helped to save my people, I know that I’d never have considered Islam.

I converted to Islam and didn't know about the music issue until a few months after taking my Shahada. Needless to say I had a hard time wrapping my head around music being Haraam, and the more scholars I talk to the more I understand it's more of a mainstream belief. I still listen to music but much more selective about what comes to my ears Mash'Allah

I am a practicing muslim. Music can not at all be haram or considered haram or sinful to listen to in Islam. GOD LOVES beauty. HE IS THE CREATOR OF BEAUTY in nature all around us..nature is not mute but full of sounds..of sea waves, sound of wind, sound of tree leaves moved by wind, birds chirrping or doves cooing.. the universe is not silent and had GOD wanted human beings not to listen to or enjoy music HE WOULD NOT HAVE CREATED our ears !
It is a crime or rather a sin if we deprive our ears of what is also nourishment for our souls.
GOD IS PEACE AND LIGHT .
HE LOVES BEAUTY and it is an insult to Islam to assume or believe what anyone wants us to deny using as a gift : our ears and ability to hear , to hear what is beautiful !

Objectively speaking, "Music" is just a vibration of air which has certain patterns that we find it enjoyable. This is how audio is being inscribed into a vinyl discs, that very vibrations across the specified time. It's a very wide category, on the other side you have birds who can play "Music" by their chirpings which can soothe our morning, meanwhile on the other opposite side it can be intoxicating to our mind like what they do in Rock concerts where people can literally lose their minds in a mosh pit. The purring of a cat can also be considered as a music to our ears, and this particular vibrations emitted by a cat's purr can lower blood pressure, lessen stress, and even promote healing.
Music is just a vibration of air within specified frequency ranges of 20 Hz to 20 kHz that has certain patterns that we find it pleasing to our ears. If you go beyond that frequency we can't hear it, and if it doesn't have any pattern then it's just a noise. Certain frequency music has been known contributes reducing tension and anxiety, according to National Institute of Health.
It is the content that matters.
I think it is unwise to blanket wrap them all as a prohibition. But in the end this is just my opinion, Allah swt knows best.

    • @Sunorbit
      @Sunorbit 9 днів тому +4

What kind of secular-atheist-derived ruling point of view is this?
‘Music is just a vibration of air’?
So by that logic, humans are just atoms moving around-so killing and bringing destruction would simply be atoms moving too?
Akhi, you need to reconsider what you’re allowing into your intellect (Aql) right now. Go back to the Book of Allah and the explanations of the scholars.
This is a sincere piece of advice.

    • @chrono6564

Natural sound like a cat purring, and then artificially created tunes are not within the same group of sounds.
The prophet (peace be upon him) has prohibited music for general uses as far as I am aware.
This is supported by Sahih Bukhari 5590
If you have any evidences from the Quran or Sunnah to support your beliefs, then state them; otherwise it should be assumed that your beliefs are non-Islamic, and likely derived from desire; which is even more so likely to be true if you reject clear evidences in favour of your thoughts and feelings.

Something worrying I noticed is that I did not see *any* dalil from our religious sources (Quran, Hadith, statements from scholars), but rather it was *all* your opinion. I do think that your reasoning fails but I'm not going to go into that - what I am more concerned about is the fact that these days, random laymen feel as if they can generate fatawa based on nothing but their feelings.
I advise you to repent to Allah for speaking about His din without any knowledge. You have no right to do that.

It's not a video on Fiqh. Their is no "ruling" on music in Islam, there is simply a dialect of tension in the scholarly tradition. That's the point of this lecture... use your own discretion. Allah gave you ears and an intellect. Protect your ears from what may enter your heart. If you personally find a piece of music as beneficial and enjoyable, then continue to benefit from it. amazing lecture. but i need to point out a very important matter regarding modern music. If anyone can research how we TUNE our instruments in modern days, A=440hz, is not at all like how all humanity used to tune their instruments. there is a conspiracy about how they changed the frequencies so it affects us in a negative way. 440 promotes individuality, it is the opposite of integrity and if compared to 432hz for instance, is exactly the opposite.
what i want to point out here, is that we need to check what music we listen to , not only based on the intention of this piece of music (belly dancing or promoting sins), but also how this music is affecting us on higher level. there is a lot about this subject, so thats why i encourage you brothers and sisters, to research why we were forced to switch to 440hz, and also if they embed malevolent "binaural beats" in popular songs....

Music or any other device becomes disliked when its used in the negative way like nuclear energy is clean but making a bomb from it is negative ,,, a knife helps cut food but can also be used to unalive people does that mean it should be banned,,, of course not the benefits out way the harms ,, so music that promotes a certain behavior or dumbs people shouldn't be encouraged but to ban music because someone mistranslated what Muhammad said shouldn't be a law as clearly the verses on gambling and intoxication couldn't music of been slipt into that verse ,,,
