Thks for this it’s the only manual 420d review I could find, all others have been automatic. Very good review really enjoyed this like your other videos. I just bought recently bought a white 420D M Sport in manual. Love the car.
@@KS-gh7kq hi I bought the 420d grande coupe. The car is ok. But do double check the car before buying. I got mine from a big car supermarket. With 15k. The previous owner had messed with the computer to try n get free apple car play. And it’s costing issues as I cannot rectify a software recall without changing the dash unit. You can usually check for this. If the main idrive screen is not showing the time or if you can’t set the time. Cost me a fortune as only ppl that can fix it is BMW. And they only deal with BMW bought warranty. So the extended warranty I bought was useless. Also had issues with the horn and washers both needed fixing. This is maybe the fact I bought a bad example as my previous 1 series had no issues whatsoever. But overall the car is nice and a head turner. But recommended getting one from a authorised dealer.
@@KS-gh7kq Hi I ended buying a 68 reg 420d Grande Coupe M Sport with 15k on the clock, i had a few issues, mostly because i bought a bad example which i got frame a big chain of car supermarkets. I even bought extended warranty (about that later). The previous owner (plonker) had messed the idrive to try and get free Apple car play this has caused me nothing but trouble as i cant get any recall work down that needs to update the software. I have paid loads to get the computer changed, part has finally arrived, just need to book it in. To spot such computer issues pls look at the Idrive screen if you see no time at top right corner or if time and date doesn't set, please do no buy the car. I had bought extended warranty but the only ppl that will touch this are BMW dealer who do not allow 3rd party warranty's. Other minor issues are the horn and washer jets. these needed fixing. apart from the above The car is nice and a head turner and i like it.. I just bought a bad example, i would recommend getting one from a authorized dealer as any issues they will fix. I've had a 1 series prior to did and that was lovely with no issues. I'm currently toying with the idea of a 128ti as the dealer leant me one during my last visit.
I have a 420d rwd but with the ZF8 auto gearbox, the car is a blast, very quick, good fun handling, awesome mileage and decent comfort. Still stock 190bhp but i think gonna remap it to 225bhp and it's gonna be even better. After this, think gonna go for an M4/M5 in some 4-5 years time. Or maybe even a Porsche 911...
One thing to look at if you do end up buying a manual BMW is deleting the Clutch Delay Valve, you said the gearbox doesn't like it when your changing gears quickly its due to that valve. Very easy to do a garage would charge max £50.
I really don’t understand why cars these days have their cup holders right in the middle of the arm rest in the back. It’s so annoying and like it’s not rocket science to have folding ones or ones that pop out. Big up BMW for having their cup holders foldable.
Does the 420d have Hill Assistant? Im thinking od getting the 2014 410d xdrive but the city I live has heapsnof hills and traffic and I think it would be a lil annoying without hill assistance
it does but it's an early version of it, it just holds the car for 2 seconds whilst you put the car into gear. I'd go with the auto if there's a lot of hills near you.
I didn't even know shitbox models below a 328 existed before I went to Europe. A couple years after we got the 320i here in the states but no self respecting person would ever buy that. My first visit to Europe was when I found out BMW even put cloth in their cars and sunroofs weren't standard.
I’ve heard so many negative criticism on a manual 420d - anybody who has one clear this up for me ? I’ve driven a 120d before, which is the same n47 engine I believe, and that felt very front end heavy, and abit gutless, like you really had to put your foot down to reach the power end of the gear. Is the manual 420d the same as that? Thanks

I'm thinking of buying one. How is it 2 years later? Any issues?

@Trevor Alexanderson no long term effects as long as you don’t clutch dump every 1st gear set off.
Nice review, just bought a damaged 17 plate in white with manual box, looking forward to giving it a blast in a few weeks.
I have a stage one re map on mine it’s such a difference in performance and fuel save I love mine
Where did you get the tr map done and how much was it? Wana do same to my 420d

Hoping to get one of these. Ticks all of the boxes for me. Great balance of fun and economic to run
they're brilliant, you won't regret it.
That storage pack is so so rare🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
the suspension is firmer that means is not for a family coz it's not comfortable? even with adaptive suspension and in comfort mode?
I want to find this exact spec and colour can paragon cars find another like this.. If so I'll buy it
pop us a message at sales@paragoncarslondon.co.uk and they might be able to source one for you
I have the 120d i have to spend 55 pounds a week on diesel 😊

Which one should i be going for RWD or the X drive AWD?
Edit: For absolutly tearing up the irish backroads*
RWD is more fun and XDrive is more usable in bad weather. I'd say rear wheel drive.
@@ParagonCarsLondon what makes the rwd more fun? Just so you can drift in the wet? Or any other aspects. I want more so to go 90mph on backroads lol
@@daithi154 the car is just more tail happy haha.
@@ParagonCarsLondon ahhh tail happy dont know if i want that on tight wet backroads loool

I didn’t know the f32 comes in manual gearbox??
It certainly does 😏
Watford 😅

europe??? why do you talk about the continent and not a specific country. europe is a massive continent.
Calling this model a shit box is crazy lmao

120d does feel front end heavy yeah but the 420d is definitely a gem. Feels quicker than it is though.
