Nah they seem better because they are usually priced well under market value compared to a similar model/year and miles. If they have sport kit on them it’s usually because that’s what they came with or they have stuck it on because they could 🤷♂️ I don’t bother unless the parts are cheap or it will be repaired with the same as what came off it no need to waste money. It will sell as long as it’s priced fairly and repaired properly.

Vcheck is one of the best hpi checks currently. Quite a few cars are passing through as unrecorded but vcheck brings up the salvage record if sold through copart or motorhog etc, including the auction date, mileage and pictures of the damage. A must when buying 👍🏼
Categorised cars can be great value if the damage was minor and near the build date. This usually meant the insurance didn’t bother getting the car repaired. I have a Porsche 987 S , categorised in 2008, I purchased it in 2017. Any problem would have surfaced by that date obviously, and the price I paid was less than it would have been, still got the car, drives superb. Just do your homework...and that applies to purchasing any car!!!

I personally only buy them if I can repair them myself. You know exactly what the damage is then unless the owner has previous damage photos/ repaired correctly.
Any car that’s categorised & keyless start is usually good because mint cars are fetched for all the parts to repair the salvage. Buy a crook-lock & aftermarket immobiliser if you don’t want your car going missing and the parts going a salvage vehicle.

The problem l have with structural damaged cars is that in many instances, one is not provided with the exact information of damage the vehicle suffered to be classed as an S category car. All the information that is received in many cases is that it is an S Category car full stop!!! Not many selling sites except maybe Copart, show pictures of the car after the accident in order for the buyer to make an informed decision on whether to buy the vehicle or not. Auto trader platform has quite a number of good looking S category car, but they hardly sell for months on end, no matter how cheap. This is purely because the information of the kind of damage sustained by the vehicle is unknown if when a check is done. No one will purchase a vehicle especially one to be used as a family car, if the exact damage to the vehicle is not known, no matter how cheap or good looking the car is. S category cars are very good value for money if the damage details are know and also if the buyer of vehicle is ready to drive the vehicle for a very long time, because purchasing an S category vehicle then trying to sell it on after some time could be quite challenging because most people will rather go for a vehicle with no damage history. Finally a major downside is that some insurance companies are reluctant to insure an S category vehicle and the ones that do increase the premium paid, so one might not be saving as much as was initially anticipated. ,

It's a mistake buying any used car, providing you do not buy and sell them for a living.
