Squilliam Returns is such an underrated episode! This is definitely the peak of show, ending on the highest note: The Movie.

I'm just now remembering how many memes came from season 3... the Patrick beating himself up scene and squidward's "oh no he's hot!"
Small moment but I love how genuinely helpful Mr. Krabs was being towards Squidward. Most times he always wants something in return like money but here, he just wants to help Squidward get one over Squilliam. We don't really side that side of him anymore in later seasons
Except for possibly a moment where he gives Pearl money without hesitation.

Nah, Mr. Krabs knew he could charge these customers way more than he usually can if they pretend its a 5 star restaurant rather than a fast food joint, he said "let's take him to the cleaners" which suggests they'll take all his money
Maybe it reminded Mr. Krabs of his own rivalry with Plankton
There was a ding sound effect when Mr Krabs finds out it's squilliam who is rich and Mr. Krabs said we'll take him to the cleaners (meaning we'll take his money).

My favourite part of the Salty Splitoon episode is the implication that if SpongeBob actually were able to open that bottle of ketchup, Reg probably would have accepted that as an appropriate level of toughness.
I like how he had a bottle of ketchup on him while on duty
Squilliam is one of the most intriguing characters to me, he doesn't show up very often and it adds some interesting elements to Squidward's character
Anyway Here's a question:
If you wanted to get into the Salty Spatoon, what would you say to show how tough you are?

I never thought about it before but both these episodes share a theme about the risks of pretending to be something you’re not. SpongeBob and Squidward both succeed in their deceptions at first only for a heavy dose of reality to bring their hopes crashing down at the last minute.
Y'all think SpongeBob would've been allowed inside if he HAD been able to open that ketchup bottle?
He did get inside in a later season, but he was working there for a bit.

You know there is a popular fantheory that Squilliam really is a cashier but is blowing all his money on trying to impress Squidward and show him up. In fact the theory even states that he pays his “rich friends” to look and act the part too. A lot of them are regulars at the Krusty Krab so they would know about Squidward & Spongebob, one of them is even Pearl’s friend.

@@Bostonterrierslol It makes sense of course, but Spongebob is a random show. They do some intentional things, but I highly doubt the writers had any of that in mind. Alex is just great at making connections and you can make connections with anything like those people who always try to connect numbers to events. Doesn't mean the theories aren't fun to hear though.

That's stupid theory, successful people living the life average people wanted to live do exist, you theory only makes sense to kids who don't know about unfulfilled dreams, adults can relate to Squillium being rich guy they can't be, the great thing about season 1-4 SpongeBob is showcasing real life.
Makes me happy Squidward plan backfired on him especially when he forced SpongeBob to change his personality just to impress Squilliam.

Squilliam is the only recurring character in this show I can safely say I hate. The world praises him for doing nothing, meanwhile Squidward tries his best to get noticed and is treated like trash (even if he tends to deserve it sometimes). And what does he do with all that success? Rub it in Squidward’s face. I’m glad that the modern seasons rarely show him.
I think he's a great foil for Squidward tho, seeing them interact immediately helps the audience feel bad for Squidward, empathize with him (as its a pretty relatable situation), and forgive Squidward for being cranky

Sure, the writers have might have lost some guff. How many fresh ideas can one brain, or even a team-collective, possibly think of? There are some pretty good ones and other really bad ones.
For example, one of my favorite episodes of Spongebob is actually in season 5; 'Krusty Towers'.
Isn't Krusty Towers season 4 tho? S4 had some good episodes. Karate Island, Selling Out, and Dunces and Dragons.
