As a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran I approve 👍🏻
Kudos to Lionel for an ACTUALLY prototypical sound file!
The bar is on the floor
Great video as usual Eric! One thing I noticed that was also another nice throwback to the Postwar United States Marine Corps trains was on the caboose. The number on the side of the new caboose of #601750 is exactly the same number used back on the original caboose! So not only did Lionel pay tribute to the FA #212, they did the same thing to the #601750 caboose. Very cool that Lionel remembers their roots, and pays homage to the originals. I love it.
Yep!
I love it when trains zoom by. Cameras.😊
Play the Nathan horn on a USMC Diesel. The Nathan sound was tuned by a former leader of the Marine Corps Band!!
When I grow up, I want to be like Eric of Eric's Trains.
Nah, when you grow up be like you.
Eric, I still have the original 212 Marine Corps engine. It was my first train set my dad bought for me in 1958.
Nice context work. Nice set up. Lionel does have all that heritage to draw on . I love it when they pay a nod to the past. Outstanding new acquisition! 🍾 They did a great job and it looks and sounds amazing . It’s a very exciting time to be in the hobby. As always a great video Big Guy. Your work gets better and better. Thanks for what you do! 🍻
Thanks!
Hey Eric. I served 8 years in the Marine Corps this is really good to see from Lionel trains. Great trains to see.
That set flies down the track!
I hope they do the Amtrak version of this. Silver with the 3 stripes like the early 90s set. I've been wanting a scale version of my old starter set.
Neat to see Lionel do a callback to the postwar era, another one they might do is the 205 Missouri Pacific.
Have the postwar original AA set and it's a good 'un.
I saw the Easter egg Challenger! Sneaky! Beautiful set and great review!
Nice!
Awesome video. I love the comparison of the classic lionel and the modern. I remember seeing the postwar engine in my grandpa's 1958 catalog
Thanks!
I love that bright blue color, really pops. Very cool recreation of a locomotive Lionel made back in the old days. Great review Eric!
Thanks, Eric. That was very enjoyable. The sound coming out of the super bass unit was very impressive. The ballast work is top notch. You have an incredible collection.
Thanks!
These are Super Cool Eric, The Lionel New U.S. Marine Corps Train Paint Scheme is Amazing.
Yes they are!
I have an original Marine Corps set. It was low end...Now if you want a complete set it's quite expensive.
This is a GREAT video. I must point out that the original 212 was issued as an O27 set.
This one of my favorite videos you have done. So nice to see some post war on your channel.
I love the old US marine aviation blue paint they went with. And when you sent the older train into an absolute piss missile was funny.
love the way u brought the old and the new together !!!!
Amazing review great video as always
Another beautiful train to add to your
Amazing collection 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋😎👍
Love everything sbout your layout and all trains!!😅
Thanks!
I liked seeing that red marine corps boxcar I just picked one up too👍🏻
Love watching your videos they are always inspiring, cannot wait until I get set up.
Great set Eric. Super cool to see them
Hi again from Glasgow Model in 00
Ended up getting the Pennsylvania version but you made a great choice with these. Absolutely love that shade of blue, and yeah it’s a great sort of updated model of a Lionel icon. Great work Eric
Those Pennsy units are sweet with the radio antenna up top!
Very nice Eric, I also like it when you run your trains a little fast, that's pretty cool 😎😎
Ive been waiting patiently for this one!!!
Those colors are awesome. Looks sharp
Thank you! Cheers!
I don't even buy those post 1956 diesels. but those new FAs look NICE. Enjoy them. The original 1950 FAs were made to provide QUALITY dual diesels at a lower price point for their 027 line. A friend of mine got the 2023 Union Pacific FA set instead of the 2353 Santa Fe F3s because the price difference was big enough that it wasn't economically practical for the family. In 1955, Lionel made the 2243 A-B single motor F3 set for the 027 line. This came in a set which included the HYPER RARE 6468X BROWN B&O automobile box car. A cool bit of history.
Thanks
I love the set. I see for the actual run that you switched to the correct sounding horn. Another great review. Oh. Watching a little further in the run you switch back and forth with different horn sounds...lol
Tried to mix it up a bit
Well done Eric.👍
There was a grain elevator that used an old EMD b unit for switching. Some of them had simple controls by one of the end doors.
I will add another observation. I am into the 3rd day of owning the Erie-Lackawanna road name for this set. I was surprised to see that the rail sounds speaker on the leading A unit is is
kind of meager, frail build quality, and on the small side. Narrow diameter. It is in a thin plastic casing, and at high volume it causes the shell to vibrate, annoyingly. What really surprised me is that all the rail sounds are significantly louder in my just $300+2023 Lionchief GP7, and my 2023 SD40-T, both of which are substantially less expensive than this FA set. I am not sure whether the speaker casing on the SD is metal or not, but it is more solid, rigid (so that it does not vibrate), and the speaker is of a wider diameter. On a Decibel meter check with full volume rail sounds same speed levels and horn, the LC GP7 hit 86db, the SD hit 84db, and the FA barely reached 79db. Mostly scored a consistent 78db. This was surprising,, given the money spent. I guess buying the all powered A-B-A was not enough, and they want to motivate a rail fan to spend another $500 on the superbass. Kinda sucks. Happy for the kids with Lion Chiefs-that actually seems to produce the best sounds for anything I have, the little engine that could.
I have the Green One its a great engine
I’d love to see the RS5 PWC sets make a come back under the LionChief name still hunting for that 736 set
Very informative thank you!
Very welcome!
Nice, you found one!
Beautiful engines and love the blue Eric!!!
Many thanks!
@@Ericstrains You're welcome!!!
Cool videos, thumbs up from Morocco, would like to learn more about that hobby
Great video. Beautiful engines.
Indeed!
The hobo union called. They said, that you forgot the hobo camp.
It’s a bit ironic that the O27 212 had a fixed pilot and the scale model does not. Lol. Otherwise the new model looks amazing and somehow looks more postwar than the original with its brighter colors.
Excellent video...I leaned a lot.
You got a hair cut! It looks great!
Thanks!
Hi from Glasgow Scotland Eric and thanks for the York show post and do you have any British locomotive I Model the Big 4 and Br Blue Thanks again for the video 📹 and all the best from Glasgow Scotland 🏴
You must get through a lot of smoke fluid!
Oh yes
If one can pull 14 cars... double the traction triples the power: two can pull 42. That's how it also works in the real world.
They really do have excess packaging three boxes when one can do with the foam packaging they are very secure
Wow Eric I think that it looks great and the poster one is kind of like the roadrunner because it was going fast am I right Eric?
Right!
A little bit of old, a little bit of new and a little bit of blue.
When you do the part 2 catalog review?
Already did it. ua-cam.com/users/livewHFgD2HCPFQ?feature=share
I just got delivery today of the Erie Lackawanna road name for this set. There are no electro couplers on the rear of each A unit (both leading and trailing)! What is there are fixed, dummy
couplers, instead. Is that correct the way it is supposed to be?
You have a video called giant spooky spider in your reviews playlist.
Thanks, I'll remove it.
What kind of power consumption did it take to run all four units with smoke? My house lights dimmed awhile ago. It must have been you running this train!
Haha. Yeah, with the 6 motors, 2 sound systems and 4 smoke units it can pull a few amps if's pulling a big train behind it.
It's too bad they didn't use the US Marine Corps paint scheme which looks cool on a layout
It would be better if it was made in U.S.A Old Lionel will always be better even MPC era is better.Everyone who spends big money on new Lionel, deserves to have it made in U.S.A.Other than that they look great 👍
They simply can’t be made here anymore, for a variety of reasons…chief among which is that they would cost 2 or 3 times what they cost now.
I have a 1950 Lionel 1666 freight set
Where does Lionel get its prime mover sound file from
At least the original post war FA was made in the USA.
Any pointers on how to find what frequency a road is operating on?
Like radio frequency for communications?
does this same ID trick work for other locomotives? for example, my es44ac and my GP60?
Not sure
✨️✨️✨️✨️✨️👍🏻
👍🚂🚞🚞🚞🚞✌
I'd have chosen the Pennsy. Detailed antenna on the roof, paint color and whiskers are perfect. The Marine Engine is kinda dull and looks too plastic.
To each his/her own 😃
Hey Eric! That's a sweet looking set you got! I have a dummy Long Island Railroad Alco with Legacy, but I'm using it with the MTH remote (through a TMCC module). Is there a way to change the horn tones using the MTH remote even with the limited commands? Thanks.
On the legacy or TMCC remote you use the Aux 1 key to toggle horn and bell sounds. I can’t remember if MTH allows that
@@EricstrainsOk I’ll mess around with it and see what happens. Thanks!
I love the throwback lionel locomotives, but I hate the made in China. 🤬
Everything is made in China these days, that’s just reality.
I hate to say it, but think of how expensive it would be if it were made here
Your looking at well over $2000 for a toy train.
Yes, the original is entry level for children to play with. The new set is not market focused for children to buy nor to play with. This is the same as other units produced today with a different paint and road names. The outlandish cost puts this remote computer controlled train in the deep pockets collector market. I can’t believe you think a kid in the 1950’s was thinking about this engine set that was never intended for a child to play with regardless of the cost.
I can't believe you completely missed the point of what I was saying.
@@EricstrainsYou did state the new is inspired from the original 212. Other than the road name, & color (which is not even close) nothing in common nor a connection to the original entry level child’s toy. This is a high end, big dollar engine set review only, that in no way emulates the original. Pointing out simplicity of original toy to glamorize the high end, high priced modern collector 213 engine becomes the point or theme presented.
@@genemanno1533 Same road number too...212 on the lead unit. There's a connection, whether you choose to believe it or not.
Not a fan of O scale, toy like look, especially trucks and couplers so non prototype
The big couplers and the 3rd rail remind not to take the hobby too seriously, that's the way I see it. To each his own though. Cheers!
3.rail tracks is stupid. No real trains use 3 rails.
Incorrect. Real trains use 3 rails as well. The reason many people don’t know this is because often times the center rail is painted with clear paint.
What are the third rail for? And why should it be painted? It dosent make sense. I have been round in Europa and have been in US and Canada. I have NEWER seen any 3 rail lines@@Ericstrains
You weren’t looking hard enough. All trains all over the world, in every country, have 3 rails.
Ok aweet dreams to u @@Ericstrains
🤣
Oorah!!
