I drove over the original Tappan Zee Bridge once when driving back to Long Island from upstate New York. As much as I hate driving over the Verrazzano Bridge, nothing terrified me as much as the original Tappan Zee. Back in 2019, I drove on the replacement cable stay bridge and it was like night and day.
yeah I agree and I don't think 8 lanes is wide enough for the new bridge which I think is the current plan... The new bridge opening should also be supplemented with main-line widening from the current failing 3-3 configuration 4-4 configuration from the NY City line up to AT LEAST the Orange/UlsterCounty Line
it seems like the plan keeps changing but the plan i've heard is for 8 general use lanes + 2 HOV/Bus lanes. i think that could work if people use the HOV lanes. i think they have ditched the rail option as being too costly, which is a shame. hopefully they will turn to improvements to the rail lines west of the Hudson instead. as far as widening goes, i've not heard much of anything about what the plan is there. i doubt they will ever add lanes south of 287, but your other upgrades sound right.
This is the *REAL* Tappan Zee Bridge. The new bridge is an abomination and an insult to the original, and the builders who replaced this bridge should be ashamed of themselves. 😞😞 #TeamOldTappanZeeBridge 🌉

Look at the cars bouncing over those bumps! Awesome video
they have just approved the construction of a new bridge that might be open in 2017. the day the new one opens, it will not have been a day too soon.

By 2017, they replaced this, and got started demolishing (kinda :( ) the old one.GLad to have these..planning to visit NY State!
no no no... guys i like the way the bridge is already
I have to ask since no one else did...what's left of the Tappan Zee Bridge after Superstorm Sandy came by? I hope it's still there.
The bridge actually held up during Sandy.
POV: you're on a road trip through the east coast
We always avoid the TZ whenever we can...Maybe that'll change when the new one is complete...
If it's all the same to you, I get a thrill ride from these videos! :D

I'm not ashamed of myself at all. I'm proud of the work I did on that project. 😘🍑
This bridge sucks. I am just waiting for the day when the whole thing falls apart if they keep this bridge in service instead of building a new one
