RAC left 2 disabled people with Autism, ADHD cancer and replacement knees and having had 3 spinal fusions in a broken down car for over 9.5 hrs with our pet dog in temperatures around 7 degrees. Failed to update us at any stage until after the 9.5 hr point. Shared our data (phone numbers) with taxi companies without our permission. Then had car moved 20 mins down the road to a services and left us there for a further 2 hrs (at least we managed to eat just before food outlets shut). Then we're told that we would get another lift to another services a further 1/2 hr down the road where we would have to wait again. When we asked where we are supposed to leave the key to our car when we were ovvered a 4th taxi, the first refusing to take luggage or pets, we were told to leave it on top of the wheel of the car in a dark car park where therre are warnings everywhere telling us theives operated in the car park and that vehicles left to long would be fined. Thankfully a recovery vehicle turned up (Not RAC) that took us all the way home with no input from the RAC (all organised by the sub contractor). We were told that the RAC would only use sub contractors as a last resort as it costs so much which is lost profit to them, also that they are woefully understaffed as they pay their operatives the bare minimum. The RACs failure caused me to miss a cancer appointment, caused me to breakdown in tears due to having no pain meds. Given that we gave the RAC 4 days notice of the need for their services (we just arrived in a car park, setting off on our holidays when the car broke down). Made it clear what the failure codes were (cylinder 3 circuit A high) meaning either the injector or the wiring to it had failed. The injectors are buried under the windscreen and therefore accessible at the road side. Told them from the outset that recovery to our home address would be required. In the end it took the RAC some 16 hrs to get us home.
