- We had heard rumors that this warehouse was full of abandoned chairs, and given how much of a meme abandoned chairs are on our channel we had to go check it out.

So many chairs just chilling, like a retirement home for chairs lol.
Interesting fact: there are actually TWO OF THESE, just about a mile apart on the same road. Their actual history has to do with the Second Great Depression, and NYC financial firms forced into smaller headquarters, they hoped temporarily, that had to truck their furniture upstate and put it into storage, in the expectation that they'd make it out of bankruptcy and have their offices back, and be hiring, within the year. When that didn't happen and financial giants the likes of Lehmans and Bear Stearns actually did go under, and stay under, the warehouses tried and failed to auction off the furniture, leaving them in their current state.

Thank you for clearing this up. I thought there was probably an elderly person living behind the closed doors (with wire) that had some weird chair fetishism. This makes a lot more sense.

also its frustrating to see so much waste. All of those chairs could have been donated and used, but instead they are just rotting away.

It's almost like some psychopath is living there and is obsessed with collecting chairs.
That last typewriter thing was likely a teletype machine. Those were used to send realtime typing from one machine to the other (or in groups). Sort of like fax but more like sending a text message that prints on paper on a big clunky machine. Newspapers, police and businesses used to use them to send all kinds of information back and forth, etc.

Teletype machines were used to send real time communications over a dedicated phone line and would be printed out on a string of paper on the other end. It's where the term "over the wire" comes from. So if you're watching a movie or something and they say "it's coming in over the wire", that's what they're referring to.
Such a waste. My computer chair is getting really bad and I need another one, but I can't really afford it at the moment and there I see thousands of them just going to waste. Yeesh... they could sell them used for a low price and make something.
Now in 2020 I'm working from home & needing to replace my dilapidated chair. I'm looking at so many of those thinking they'd be so much more comfortable. What a waste.

That's centipede by Atari. This Boomer threw all his quarters in machines like this back in the day. I think, restored and working it would probably fetch a few 1000 usd for collectors. I own pacman, the other popular game from back in the days. Sad to see it neglected and rotting away. It must have been put there after the chairs as this game was released around 1981.

looks like the people who owned these chairs and furniture provided stuff for offices. The pallets had stacks of cubical walls and desks. They sold 2nd hand stuff to business' who were looking to revamp their office furniture. Most cubical walls 2nd hand are still brand new except for the desk surface which were easily refinishable.
