    Oh my hipster hell. I have a 1982 AP-2 with every available lens made by Minolta. My grandfather bought it in 1982 and it has photographed my family's progression through life for the last 41 years without a single failure. He bought it on the occasion of my birth and he gave it to me for my 14th birthday. one would be hard pressed to find a camera from its price point that takes pics like it does. I was not at all interested in cameras until we started having digital imaging. It was then that I really understood how special it is to have something that actually makes an imprint of a certain point it time an locks it there. I have 90 percent of my negatives that that camera has made and it is never any less astounding when making reprints to see what a film camera does. You can't photoshop. You can't edit. You only have that moment in its raw form and even though hipsters annoy the shit out of me, I do appreciate that people arent letting the real camera get lost to the sands of time.

    Hey man, rookie question here. I have a Minolta af2 on the way but I’m curious, do I set the iso on the camera according to the film I’ve ordered. For example if I’m using Kodak 200 film do I set the iso on the camera to 200. Or can I put the iso on the camera to whatever feels good for the light conditions I am in? Great video btw 👍🏽

    • @SISSI_LU
      @SISSI_LU  3 роки тому +5

      So the ISO setting on the camera is there to tell the light meter in the camera how sensitive the film you loaded is. You should set the iso when you load a roll and leave it for the whole roll. The camera will deal with the lighting situation.

  • @jonathanlanderos2266

    I’ve seen two versions of the af2. I have the same one you have but I’ve seen one with different features and the front of the lens says Minolta Rokkor opposed to the one I have “Minolta lens” do you happen to know the difference between the two?

    Hi i just picked up a af-2 , just wondering can I use 800 on it or just stick with 400s? Haven't really seen any pictures or infos if I can. I mean its a point and shoot so i dont think iso should really matter? but thats just me! Great content btw!!!

    • @yumee19
      @yumee19 3 роки тому +1

      @@zippiizhappy I actually did already :) Most people that I asked said I should try it and it might work

    • @SISSI_LU
      @SISSI_LU  3 роки тому

      Yeah the AF2 doesn't read the films DX code so it'll shoot at whatever iso you set it at (maxing at 400 obviously). I've never really experimented with pulling a roll a whole stop but shooting a whole roll one stop overexposed would probably be fine. I imagine most of your photos would just look very High Key

  • @LiveLikeLizbeth
    @LiveLikeLizbeth 3 роки тому

    did you shoot all your pics with 400 or did you changed it? i barely got the AF2 camera and im trying to get use to it because it’s a first for me, but uhhh through the lens what’s the like person shadow and mountainish(?) figures mean along w the red dot?

    • @SISSI_LU
      @SISSI_LU  3 роки тому +1

      So I shot all the photos on ColorPlus which is a 200 ISO film and I shot at box speed (i.e. 200). I didn't try any pushing or pulling on the rolls. And the little guy and mountain tell you where you camera is focused. If it detects a subject closer to the camera, that's the little guy (portrait mode) if the mountain shows up, the camera is probably focused to infinity. Additionally if the red light is blinking the camera hasn't been able to nail focus, if the red light is solid, it's too dark and wants you to use a flash. You want the light to be solid green before pulling the shutter.

  • @sdhute
    @sdhute 2 роки тому

    I'd like to check out one of the metal versions. However being it's all automatic it seems that light meters always stop working on older cameras. Do you know if light meter issues are common on these cameras ?

    • @SISSI_LU
      @SISSI_LU  2 роки тому +1

      So as far as I know, I think it's mainly selenium light meters that go bad over time. If it's an electric light meter, I think they tend to work decently well after many years most of the time. The light meter on both of these guys seemed to work absolutely fine.

    • @SISSI_LU

    Hi! Just got the MD and I’m not sure the autofocus feature is working... There is never a dot beside the ‘person’ or ‘mountain’ icon and no indication that my subject is too far or close. Would you have any tips?

    • @SISSI_LU
      @SISSI_LU  3 роки тому

      It's possible maybe just the little lights themselves are busted and not the autofocus mechanism. there's really only one way to find out tho and that's to shoot with it. Unfortunately if the AF mechanism itself is broken I don't think there's much you can do other than get a new camera. Not really worth the money to repair these little guys.

    Heyyyy I’ve recently purchase the md but I’m encountering this problem. After I took a picture, the shutter dosent come up so I’m unable to proceed taking other pictures. Is it a problem with the shutter, or that there’s something wrong with it??😭

    • @SISSI_LU
      @SISSI_LU  3 роки тому

      Not sure what you mean exactly by the shutter doesn't come up. But that's the thing with these old point and shoots. Once something starts going weird with them, there's not a ton you can do to fix it. Id say keep fiddling with it, hopefully it works itself out!
