I really like the katas in judo. I think for modern Judo the two first katas are the most important the nage no and katame no kata are very good when you are instructing others. I am currently working on Kime no kata which is my favorite.
I have heard that ju no kata with its slow pace and very nuanced actions really awakens the action and reaction concepts of judo in the mind and master level judoka say its the most enlightening one to learn. But im only on nage no kata now so im just parroting really.
I wouldn't mind this as a requirement for belt promotion. It may not test one's practical ability for judo, but it does show the understanding and execution of technique.
@@WAPticon not true aikido and judo are very similar in theory and using technique though it is very unfortunate to see what mainstream aikido has become but there is a school called Tomiki Aikido who regularly spar. Tomiki was 7th Dan judoka and an 8th fan aikidoka and trained under both Sensei Kano and OSensei Ueshiba. Sorry there is a lot common theories in aikido and judo.

Talk about failing kata. Wrong grips, extra steps, holding up the opponent, bad break falls. Clearly only 1/3 of you could pass the exam. Good thing at Hudson it’s who you know, not what you know.

I’m here because of Shintaro mentioning how good the Uke was in this video.

Here after the Uke video! Show James some love!
Love this!! Thanks for spotlighting the kata and also showing some fun new ways to train with it!
Thanks I needed to see this. Recently had to submit for my Shodan. You are a great dude, Shintaro. Thanks for all of the great videos

In Shintaro’s Yudanshakai (Hudson Judo) we had to do nage no kata to promote to black. Shin’s Dad would have us starting it during the kyu ranks.
it is a requirement for shodan
I had to do the first 3 series to get my Black belt.
Love doing kata, and now iam helping a few Brown belts with their kata.
James, you the man
Will you make a tutorial for Nage No Kata?
Nice job, all! Have you considered competing in kata at Nationals!?!
I had to hit the like button for the Uke. Dang.
We need more traditional judo. Competition is good, but there are missing links.
Yes! Leg grabs & atemi waza need to make a comeback
I dont think I will pass if I demonstrate my kata like this
“We’re gonna get cancelled by the Judo community” 💀
What is the whole history of the judo kata?
a lot of room for improvement😅👍
Haha yep, i domt think id pass if i did it like this lol
why do you look so wide and stretched during the sponsorship
Nage no Kata reminds me a lot of Aikido.
you must not know much about judo/aikido

I don't think this was meant as a serious demonstration. More like a warm up or quick reminder.
Why so serious?
@@OiiiCodyyyy I gave up on promotion due to politics. I guess I'm butt hurt.
