All I want to change story-wise in these games is to be able to button through dialogue as fast as I can read it. I like Genshin story but so much of it is "5 minute cutscene, walk 3 steps, 5 minute cutscene, tele to a waypoint and walk 5 steps, 5 minute cutscene, kill 3 hilichurls, 5 minute cutscene" and it kills me inside and it's why I've done very few quests beyond the main story ones. There are domains I can't get to still and parts of the map I can't access because dialogue that would take me 30 seconds to read in full takes 5 minutes to button through. I think the voice acting is good, I don't have a problem with it, but I grew up on games that didn't have voice acting at all and I much prefer being able to read at my own pace over voice acting when possible. But also you can't even button through non voiced scenes at a decent pace. You have to wait for people's talking animations to finish. I wouldn't even actually skip the story, I don't want a skip. I just want to move to the next line of dialogue after I'm done reading it. That's all. It would be so so so nice.
It's not that it was bad, just that Zajef was bored at the beginning, so he didn't finish it. Then some commissions where locked behind it, so Zajef wasn't in the mood to read the story.
For me, Genshin is bad at story telling, tho their lore is very interesting. overall, it got me excited and then confused and bored from either how it's presented and progressed. Either too much texts, no voice-overs, or main-story/quest didn't nicely tell/explain the lore, which each region also have their own lore/theme and I didn't follow. Or maybe I'm too stooopid with low-level english skill (I use EN for text). So for now I like HSR story telling and our interaction with other characters which is wayyy more lively than Genshin. I always feel Genshin was unsure on where they'll go in the beginning (i.e. their target player) which they started off very general and friendly. But now after sumeru and fontain, I guess they'll do more heavier story.
Sumeru got really bloated with the side story but yeah by your point it's the same for league of legend when arcane arrived, some people who review or discuss about it didn't even know there's already a big backlog of story to adapt
Imo, Inazuma story was pretty good until the Thoma ending. Was really bad with the resistance, then was good at the end with Sara, Yae, and Raiden. Luofu went from okay with SH, to bad with Dan Shu (because disconnected), to aggressively bad (zero build up climax).
I think Aranara quest was better than the dragon spine quest. It was cool has some cool lore but Aranara just out paces it for me. They both are verry good tho
I think the problem with the Luofu story quest was like you'r missing half the context of the story if you don't read the lore of Jingyuan, Bailu, Blade, DanhengIL and Jingliu, as well as the dialogue of the eggs in watescape gorge. It's like, the story quest shows you the current events, right ? But the way things got here and the original events that led up to the way things are now is hidden within the written lore So people who read the lore are usually ok with the story quest because you already have the context of things, which helps you understand what's going on in the backround and allows you to read in between the lines for the character interactions. But people who don't read the lore are just lost and surprised whenever an information gets dropped. Basically the role of the story quest is to peak your curiosity and insentifize you to read the lore to get a better understanding of characters and their motives. I think the future stories will be fine as long as hoyo never do this "half of the story happened in the past" type of thing
Literally every hoyo games need you to understand the base from every sauce. (A lot of personal opinions and long text) Talking about Star Rail vs Genshin: Genshin has a really good lore, but its story is just awful (which is why I hope to see the anime, I heard that it is going to be like 100 episodes long at least or something. Manga did a way better job on telling a story, so this is just the game problem tbh) Star Rail does a way better job with the main story line rn, and I hope it continues that way. At least they have already revealed Stellaron Hunters motive (and it helped a lot with making the story feel better), which is something I hoped they would have done with Fatui by this point. Companion quests are also a lot of fun, which I can not really say about at least half of Genshin ones. But I must say, Sumeru was so good that I actually thought that it could have been its entire own game. There was something unique about King Deshret lore that made me actually interested in whatever is going to happen in the future. Can not say it is going to happen to other regions we have left, considering that Sumeru is like the point from where it all began, but at least the 4.0 archon quest had some good characters and dialogues
Genshin story has higher highs and lower lows. Hsr story is always ok to good, but I really hate how they’re dividing in 10 thirty minutes quests the luofu arc it’s too discontinued
I'd prefer short but good stories rather than whatever Genshin had going on, way too much bloated text, summarized in the words "They say so much, yet say so little", Also HSR events stories are way shorter than genshins which saves alot of time.@@simonditomasso9868
True, i think the weakest points are all of Inazuma and the second half of sumeru (after the initial desert and king deshret--the djinn lamp area and area underneath Fontaine), plus the extremely wordy event quests.
ain't no way you think the luofu arc is good. be serious. ppl think kafka's companion quest is amazing even though you literally just stand there talking to her for most of it. you don't even talk to luocha or yanqing in their quests. yukong's is good but the main story doesn't even acknowledge that you did her quest so she talks to you as if you're still strangers lol
There's this thing going on with hsr where a lot of fans act like the story is so much better than Genshin (possible basing it mostly on Belobog or on the fact that its a 'Honkai' game ig), when in reality the first half of the Xianzhou was so underwhelming I deadass wanted to just go back to Belobog and stay there. They basically fixed the story with Dan Heng in the last part, but the 1st? man that was just really bad in all senses possible. As for Genshin, we all know this one-- Inazuma having the most potential and then the second part falling so hard it actually killed a fuckton of players. But Sumeru (and now Fontaine) and its story quality has been way better than what we got in hsr so far (and I say that as a diehard fan of Belobog part).
