  • Geometry - Transformation - Rotation not around origin
    How do you rotate a shape around a point other than the origin?
    This geometry video explores the rotating a point or shape around a point on a graph that is not the origin. The rotation occurs by moving the graph to the origin, following the origin rotation rules, then moving the graph back to its original point of rotation.

      What if for example the rotation is 90 degrees counterclockwise about C. You know like it revolves around a already make point from the shape. Can you help?

      @@Emleach28 That particular point would not move and you would follow the same algorithm for the other two points.

  • @Maniclout
    @Maniclout 5 років тому

    Suppose we have the set of points (x,f(x)) and we wish to rotate all those points by t radians around a certain point A = (a,f(a)). Then we can derive the transformation of the points (x,f(x)) to **(** (x-a)cos(t)-(f(x)-f(a))sin(t)+a **;** (f(x)-f(a))cos(t)+(x-a)sin(t)+f(a)**)**. This will rotate the graph around A by t radians if you consider all transformations of the points with x in Dom(f). This is basically the algbera behind this video.

    • @CherryHillMath

      The standard for all math that I've seen is for counter clockwise to be the positive direction. When you get to radians in precalc, it will be the same.
