The clean channel for me is the whole magic of this amp. Even better, fuller and louder after I put in a Celestion Vintage 30…near perfect classic US cleans and very accurate edge of break up Brit combo sounds. The od channel is great too, but I don’t need it. This is a great amp for modern country
I have the Mk1 and it has been the amp that i go back to every time. The OD for me sings really well and plays along well with my guitars.
I have mark 1 of this Amp. Still love the cleans and overdrive. It's a very underrated Amp. But if anyone gives it enough time they will find there sound. This could take hours. I have not played the mark 2 . Touch wood I have had it 9 years and never had a problem.
I've had one of these for about 6 months now and really like it - I know some people have had reliability issues so I can only hope mine doesn't break down. Not a technician but (with the valve/transistor debate) I have read a lot and it seems to be a 'hybrid' as I understand it. Not a Blackstar 'fanboy' - my favourite amps are Boogies - but for the price I feel these are a great sounding amp that feels good to play and has really useful recording options.
I just bought me one. Really like the options offered on this amplifier. I play clean most of the time. I play mainly electric 12 string guitars, although I do have a strat to jam with!!!
Great amp and great review ! Keep up your good job !
I have a mk1, and absolutely love it. It's by far the most versatile amp I've ever used.
Thanks for a helpful review
I love Black Star amps and I have Black Star Fly 3 watts and also have ID Core 40 watts and Black Star Debut 15 watts, every time going in music Store I play HT 40 Club version 2 and that my next Amp I am going to buy. It really worth it and the tones are awesome on Amp when it clean and Dirty and it worth the Money and I love Dark tones and it sound awesome playing with a Gibson Les Paul on it. Thumbs 👍 up Great Video.
I picked one up a few months ago, I just got around to seriously messing with it last week. It came with the two button footswitch, and I wasn't that impressed with the amp at that point, but I threw a hail mary and got the 5 button footswitch. Made a world of difference. I've only been able to play it on the 4 watt setting (apartment living), I can tell it's going to absolutely sing when I get to open it up on the 40 watt setting. Building a pedal board right now, Strymon DIG digital delay, first run Bad Horsie wah, Friedman BE-OD Deluxe, Digitech Whammy, Aphex Aural Exciter, and the Blackstar footswitch, just those so far. I still have plenty of room for more as I go along. I'm really happy with this amp.
Cheers! I wonder ... do you place the DIG Strymon in front of the amp? Or in the effectsloop?
@@ricksguitarcorner In the loop. Tried in in front and it just didn't sound very good. Beautiful in the loop though.
Great review, a nice amp , the -10db/ +4db makes an audible difference in the general volume of the amp?
I like the HT40 and 60. I changed the 70/eighty speaker to a Vintage 30 and it opens even more. I would love to try a Cream Back and see what happens.
I did same too. The Vintage 30 is a perfect choice and sure does open it up.
just ordered one..thnxx
David, I've been watching your videos for years. I have a question, I've seen videos with this exact amp from Blackstar and when I see videos that are professionally make like yours here, the amp sounds great. However, I've also seen videos with this same amp and when they turn the gain up the amp has all kinds of unwanted squealing feedback. So I guess I have to ask, are you using a noise gate thru the Effects Loop?
Great video Is it too loud for bedroom use?
Thanks M8! 👍
I say this as an HT 5 owner but it's really important not to romanticize the ISF feature. It's just a mid shift. Some of the most British tones you can get are achieved with the ISF around 4 and the mids around 10, bass around 1, treble to taste.
But I do really like how your amp has a usable clean channel.
Great amps. I've tried them many times. They are VERY loud, so thank God you can use the 4 watt mode.
I have the HT5R, which has the same features as this one (except for the master knob, and wattage of course). And I can't find ANYTHING wrong with it.. When I first had my eyes on it, I was so skeptical thinking that there MUST be some catch to it cause it's so damn perfect and versatile, and affordable (compared to other tube amps).. I guess it's cause they're made in China? Idk... Even if Blackstar raised the prices of their amps 1.5x more, they'd still be worth it
Hello David,
I am a new subscriber.
long time no see. hope you are doing well.
review the tonex pedal. i LOVE mine.
I have the ht stage 60 they are great great amps mine has no pow watt mode so I had to buy an attenuator or it blows your ears out there is so many different tones available from these it can be a little overwhelming but I love my amp 9nly issue is it's. Too loud lol 😂😂
All it needs is a presence knob.
The only trouble, with these great sounding amps, is the repair once out of warranty. I got rid of mine as an open back speaker cab. Don't buy used.
I believe the front end of this amp is solid-state, is this correct?
incorrect both the pre and power are tubes
Thanks so very much
Why not play the same piece when comparing the voicings? That would provide a much more accurate representation of the difference between them. But maybe that's why you didn't do it.
$1000 for a 40 watt amp?
What model guitar is that?
Brand is Vola, at least 🙂.
Vola Oz!
Just bought a used one for 125 bucks.
Their loss is your “gain” 😂
Damn I'm paying 300 for one tomorrow dang it
Just sold one yesterday for $75.00 but it wasn't mine.
Wait till you have to repair it in a year. Hard to work on and Blackstar dont offer schematics... It sounds good at the price till it breaks.
Mine broke just before two years! Had it repaired and broke again soon after.
@@michaelz8620 I had the little code amp thing and it broke after a week. Returned it and wiped my hands of it.
Thanks! You saved me diving into a Swamp. I wondered if it was junk, now I know.
@@harveycan5820These amps are not junk have used Blackstar for years and has never died or broke. This amp is so versatile! I have a 6L6 model now, it is a fantastic amp.
How did your breaks? Full blast on volume or throwing the amp about on stage? I’m confused as I have mine for the last 7 years and its going strong! Please explain.
You sell hardware now ? Last video I've seen it was a guitar, now that .... Ok...
Just a coincide. Those videos were filmed months ago and only published now. I’m taking a break to deal with personal stuff. I’ll be back.
@@Wallimann Thx for the answer. Nice of you to have taken the time.
Doing more adds, I see.🤨. Good bye.
Didja ever stop to think that these videos might actually be useful to people who are curious about the product in them? No...probably not.
@@Pudge4400 This has been a guitar tips or learning channel since forever, suddenly he's doing infomercials. These are NOT unbiased reviews, these are paid commercials. OK, fine, but I am not interested in watching commercials, if I was, I would watch TV. If you are, then good for you, but there are dozens of other channels that do that, and are up front about doing so.
@@Expedient_Mensch just about ALL guitar channels with more than a handful of followers do this. It's called "making a living." If a teacher can't make a living doing this, then they can't find much time to put into their channel. They should spend their time and money to make free content just for you? Sounds pretty selfish to me.
You could always just NOT watch it, y'know...?
