these are a wonderful set of 4 vids. really love to watch them. my family came from crook just up the road. but moved down to silverwood colliery in the early 1920s we also had the old yorkshire range never had anything else whilst i was at home. But my mam god bless her she died when she was 47. in 1968 but she could cook anything in that range. roasts , yorkshire puds n proper gravy, mushy pease. oooohhhhh me mouths watering still 50 yrs later. home made bread every sunday after roast was taken out. do you know she was born with just one arm and the other was just to her elbow with the tinyist tiny fingers, like little peas they was. but it never stopped her doing anything. i cant remember how she used to get things out of the oven or peel prepare veggies but she did. and it hurt when she scutched you at the back of the head with her half arm, for doing wrong lol she had a hard life, but was well liked by all Dorothy was her name. but everyone called her doll. And watching these ladys and gents on here . well its just like they were naigbers from down the road......mining people were always the best folks. they were close comunity, they grew to be to keep one another safe and sain...salt of the earth . And they really was. and those that are still left god bless em still are.

Incredible to think this is now over 20 years old since I made it. I wonder who is still with us? Some grand folk in Sunniside. Made me feel very welcome.

@THEBARBERSWIFE: She was a grand lady. I'm glad that I got to see her, her house and film it all. Hopefully people will be watching this film when all the old characters are long gone. And with a copy in the time capsule its future should be guananteed.

Brilliant. these folks should never be forgotten. these were real folks. living a hard life, But making the best of every moment and every penny they had. they was close family and a real sense of community. Sad to say but ture. Today these qualitys are fast dissapearing.. todays folk dont know how to cook or grow food. they are becoming an anti social bunch. Much of it though is down to these blumin Dictators that we call politicians...so so sad to think these folk and these times are coming to a close. sorry to end on a sad note....But a very Very Big thankyou for Producing these videos of a great era. It is very Important that we should at least remember them, if we cant Emulate them. Cheers Pancrack. God bless yer mate.

I was born at Road Ends a quarter of a mile away 70 years ago. We didn't have hot water there.

She was a grand lady. I think she died not too long after I filmed this.

I,m Glad to say i married a girl from the late fiftys from mining family. And thank god she can still cook like a miners wife could. we still have a fantastic sunday dinner like we were brought upto. love sunday dinner. and if we couldnt afford a roast, we still got a lovelt meat n tater pie thick crust to soak the gravy up with. yeeesss.......These skills was passed onto her from her own mam and dad ,who is still going just about anyway. Both here but struggling with health not unlike many there age. God bless you. Bri
