A Rodney Smith video, while wonderful, is not a substitute for good instruction IN THE BOX, for something that is absolutely going to be purchased as a family game. If anything, I don't think they were hard enough on them for this. Even if it's a great game, it deserves to get dinged.
I hope this does really well for LEGO, been wanting more LEGO games. I think there are some cool possibilities with the custom LEGO die, if they bring that back too.
I was young when that first wave of Lego board games came out and I LOVED the Heroica series (I think that is the "little rpg" one you referred to). Been looking forward to this since I heard about it.
I'm a gamer and I had to stop the rules explanation and go to UA-cam to figure how to start placing blocks. So many building rules that conflict with each other.
Lego encroaching on board gaming has me nervous. Because of the adults resellers who buy out all the Lego that gets marked down or any limited time only stuff on lauch, just to resell at crazy high prices.
Scalpers wouldn't have a market if the consumers didn't have FOMO. The people who purchase things at absurd prices are partly to blame. Just let them sit there, in shrink, on the 'Bay. Scalpers would be out of a job.
Thanks for this review. Saw this game at my friendly local game store and wondered if it would be a good game for my grandkids. They all love Legos. I think this is a pass for their ages, 8-10.
This game looks a lot like Project L mixed with wingspan (card and board). The rules arent very clear, the first game is more a try. But it has a lot of strategic possibilities
Wasn't there a sort of engine building game where you would exchange the faces of your dice? It seemed really cool to me and lego would be THE perfect match for a mechanic like that. I even recall the making a die like that way back when. If you have the opportunity to consult again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thinking of all the things that you can do with Legos, I don't understand how this is the game they decided to launch. When I think about playing with Legos, I don't think about stacking arches. It feels like too many people & too much thought went into making this game... or vice versa. Like this concept was thought up by a group of people, non board gamers maybe, and a white board, trying to appeal to everyone, but the result was something that appeals to nobody. IDK I don't get it I guess. Seems like a missed opportunity
Seal of excellence?
This was a mistake. The correct logo should be a Seal of Approval. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
Obviously I knew Mike was a duly deputized officer of the Reiner Knizian Mounted Police, but is that an actual shrine behind him?
Lego instructions are so clear, you'd think they could do a good rulebook with good examples

Interlocking bricks are ideal for trying out and implementing your own game ideas.
@@UnimatrixOne yes, I have the LEGO dice in my bin of components and I know other designers who use them and LEGO pieces also.

I enjoyed this game more than I thought I would. Very neat game and also interactive. I can see families being okay with it with parent help.
WOW this looks like anyone prone to analysis paralysis would just take forever for a single turn
The first line of Lego Games went for quantity, not quality. Lego is being a lot more cautious this time around.
Definitely looks like more of a strategy game instead of a family one when it comes to all those neat decision making designs

More games need Monkey Points. Looking at you, Lacerda!

This game looks fun, but I’m worried that other casual board gamers in my circle of friends won’t be interested. 😕

I’m not into the board game world at all I came from the Lego world but this reminds me of ticket to ride
oooh free baseplate
Admittedly I'm not a Lego enthusiast, but there doesn't seem to be much here for me.
Why isn't Mike in the studio anymore??
He moved to Indiana
He had to move due to personal reasons.
its sad such a pretty game is not family friendly!
Man this game looks so boring. I wonder if the lego IP will cause it to do well, but meh I was just not impressed at all.

7.5 and 8? I haven't played yet but it sounds more like a 5.5 to me.
They give high scores to almost everything now
I think the game seems solid, and I love anything that has a building element, like Taluva or Santorini, but they did sound pretty uninterested
a) you have not played it and b) they can like a game you don’t, people have different tastes 🙂
There have been a few manufacturers bringing better quality bricks (and sets) onto the market for some time now!
COBI is my personal favorite!
Care to name a few? I know Mega does a pretty good job, but my first Zuru Max set was not a good first impression.
Bluebrix, Xingbao, MouldKing...
@@UnimatrixOne seems like many of those directly infringe on Lego IP (molds, set designs, etc) and I can't support that.
@@BoardGamesBricksHobbies Thats not true
Man, y’all just giving 7s and 8s to everything these days.
Well, that's not true at all. I have a record of all my ratings - and in fact you can see them at www.boardgamegeek.com!
