The general rule for axies is to keep their body the same width as their head. You are feeding nutritious food, so as long as his body is as wide as his head he is a healthy lil monster XXX

Hello! To your concern about Mochi’s stunted growth, sometimes we just get small axolotls. It could be related to genetics. If you’re feeding him earthworms and have great water parameters, you’re doing nothing wrong. He looks great 🙂

    • @l0veh0und
      @l0veh0und 2 роки тому +2

@@TismTerminator To cycle the tank, you just need to fill up the size tank you have with water - if you have city water you need to make sure you use a conditioner or dechlorinater, and if you have well water it’s not too much of a deal, but it’s always good to do it anyway. Also, you need to use a water testing kit, API’s freshwater master kit works great, to test your water very often no matter what, and you know your tank has cycled if you add chemicals to boost ammonia level, and then wait a day and if the reading says an ammonia level of zero, a nitrite level of zero, and a nirate level of 50 ppm or below then you’re good! Btw you should probably look into more research on it then that since I’m not sure if the wording of what o said os very good-

You are a life saver! I recently adopted a turtle who was abused. She had been living in a 10 gal. Tank with basically one inch of water. She had never swam before, never felt the warmth of baskin. They told me that she was 8 years old and only 5 inches poor baby was growing out of her shell which looks uncomfortable. I had no idea where to start but your channel helped me out so much! Also I have a 40 gal. Tank at the moment and saving up for a bigger one. I filled it all the way up and set up her cage and she has been under the warm light for so long. She looked finally relaxed and happy. 💖

I may have accidentally deleted my comment so I’m re-commenting. I had an axolotl that I thought died and put it in the water flea tank. Found it a month or three weeks later it was at least 10 times the size of the little ones from the same clutch. It had had an endless supply of live food. It’s just my guess that Axolotl’s top out in size In their first year or at least until they reach maturity. And yes I agree some Axolotl’s might be smaller than others genetically but I have found they can where outgrow each other depending on how often they eat and how much they eat. I’ve had Axolotl’s around 6 inches and some as long as a foot

I once had a baby Axolotl I thought had died and I put it in the water flea tank. I found it a month later in the mulmb At the bottom it had to be at least 10 times the size of the others the same age. It had an endless supply of food and way outgrew his clutch. I’m just guessing but the more you feed them as they grow the bigger they get and when they reach maturity whatever size they are is kind of where they stay. I’ve had some that were a foot-long and some that were 8 inches, some 10 inches. I imagine in the wild they eat however often they run into food and want to eat. Live food and things that tickle their snout seem to trigger them to wanna eat more as well

I love your videos. I am a new turtle mom but I do have other reptiles before having my red eared slider Lily. Then just end of Feb someone asked me to rescue a softshell turtle. I was supposed to just foster her but ended up adopting her and named her Morla. Then surprisingly she laid eggs only after 3 weeks or being with us. only 2 of her 11 eggs are fertile and hatched and now she has 18 more eggs from her 2nd clutch (9 of which are fertile) I have videos of them on my channel. I actually came upon your channel when I was searching for softshell turtle care. I learned a lot more about how to care for Lily my RES. We also have a leopard gecko, ball python and sailfin dragon, my 11-year old daughter has been a reptile lover since she was 9. The LG's and the BP are actually hers. By the way you might want to watch my DIY enclosure videos. I make their enclosures myself. ua-cam.com/video/3zfUq1087kU/v-deo.html

Some axolotls are genetically stunted, but others can become stunted due to diet and other improper care. Axolotls generally do most of their growing in the first 12 months of their life, growing at around an inch per month until they reach 6-10 inches in size.
A mini is an axolotl that looks normal (normal body proportions) but is just smaller than average adult axolotl size. Normal axolotls reach 9-12 inches and minis are generally around 6 inches.
A dwarf will look proportionately different, usually with a shorter, fatter torso. They can reach normal adult axolotl size but generally are a little smaller.
A healthy weight for an axolotl is when their belly is the same width as their head. I couldn't tell in the video, but just a heads up.
Also, a lone axolotl should be housed in a minimum of a 20 long, so upgrading him would be a great idea!

Hi! Do you have any tips on transporting large tanks? I have an African mud turtle in a 55 gallon along with 3 goldfish and 3 danios and I was wondering how to move it. (We’re moving 2 hrs away from where we live now)

I would try and put some Bubble wrap around it or put it in a large enough box.If you can't do either of those I suggest it in the back seat if it will fit.

My dad told me when he was a kid he had a bunch of exotic fish and he had an axolotl and piranhas. Etc.

This could be a reason why they don’t grow very fast, as they do have quite a long life span, and time to grow bigger,
Adult Axolotls can reach about 12 inches (30 cm) in length from nose to the tip of the tail and can weigh as much as 10.5 ounces (300 gr).
Axolotls typically live 10-15 years in captivity, but they can live for over 20 years when they're well-cared for.
The oldest axolotl is unknown but their age could surprise as they become more common pets as some salamander species have incredibly long lifespans,
    👍🏼

Hi! I had a question about doing 100% water changes. If you want to re-do your tank or whatever and you need to do a 100% water change, wouldn't that ruin the cycle? If not, please explain so I don't do anything wrong before owning an axolotl!

That is true...so I'd avoid doing it unless necessary...I mean you could redo the tank but only drain like half the water! though I guess if you were changing substrate that might be trickier. What you could do is retain some of the old water and keep the filter media submerged in that water in a separate five gallon bucket, then when you put water back in just use some of the old water.

He seems a little skinny, maybe he isn't getting enough nutrition and that whys he isn't growing? I highly reccommend Flymeat.com axolotl pellets, or feeding more than one worm :)
