Great informative video! Just put my sponge filter in my tank and it's awesome!! Also.. Because of you... My husband has said I can get more tanks, a rack system and keep more of my baby axolotls ☺️😁😍
Nice to see another British aquatic you tuber. I love sponge filters. Highly efficient and very under estimated. Keep them videos coming. Best wishes from Lincolnshire.
Thank you, Andy! I'll be sure to return the favour and check out your channel too! And agreed, sponge filters are impeccable pieces of kit for a whole host of reasons. Thanks for your comment once again, and all the very best with your channel! 😁👍💙🌟
I would love a video on cycling the tank.. it seems super overwhelming! (I honestly just let it run for a bit, and hope for the best, which is terrible)
Thank you! I love axolotls, and ended buying one spur of the moment when they appeared at a reptile show! I was worried the sponge filter wasn't good enough! I would appreciate the axolotl care guide you mentioned, how do I get that?
I love the split sponge filter. For a few dollars more you can buy ones with bio media balls built in. I never thought about running that many tanks off one of them pumps. I have one pump per tank split. Think ill go buy a splitter this weekend. Awesome video, wish ya lived in the states so i can buy one of your axolotl.
Another great video! I used to be obsessed with the 'nitrogen cycle', never even considered you could maintain an aquarium with no filter and 100% water changes. Sponge filters are definitely best but a small tip for anyone using external filters: angle the output either straight up towards the surface of the water or directly onto the side of the tank to disperse the flow for Axolotls. Also, adding a plastic 'reptile' plant like Frankie has (bottom left tank) in front of the output work great as well. A spray bar return also works with extra/ enlarged holes and the plastic plant again.
Awesome video. I'm gonna give sponge filtration a go. I've been using marineland penguins for about a year now but like you said I've got plugs everywhere 😆.
I noticed some of your tanks have more than one big axolotl... I have read sometimes they do not like to share space. Have you found you can safely house axolotls together permanently or is it until a certain age/size?
A matten filter with the aqua one maxi 103f filter doing the work. (4ft tank, no sponges in the maxi, replaced with old ceramic noodles, cause why not :) Oh and do you use an air filter in your air line, like a sealed water bottle?
I'm looking to get an axol and I bought an "AQUANEAT Sponge Filter, Aquarium Air Driven Bio Corner Filter Sponge for Fry Shrimp Nano Fish Tank" someone on my axolotl facebook page told me its a good one for lotls. It came with no instructions and I'm confused if I need an actual filter with it. I did buy the AquaClear 20 Power Filter.
I personally don’t like sponge filters due to the lack of media you can use and how bulky they are, my setup is a Fluval 207 with a spray bar it keeps the water crystal clear, however sponge filters are great if you have to run multiple tanks plus it is a great cheap starting filter.
My axolotl tank is very cloudy and there are little white particles floating in it. I’ve changed the water multiple times, the cloudiness started when I changed my filter and I’ve completely cleaned out my tank and everything and I don’t know what to do, do you have any tips?
not a beginner but definitely not a pro. been keeping fish fish and reptiles for a little over 5 years. Axolotl tank is my next setup. My question is, would a uv filter benefit my Axolotl tank? I recently put one on one of my 30's to try and the water conditions are amazing. just want to have the best conditions I can for my little guy once I get him.
I got a sponge filter thanks to you and your informative videos!!! You make the videos fun (find myself laughing a bit.) I did have a question Ive been told not to use lights. Is there a light that is safe for me to use? Mine came with the LED on the lid. Is there a way to dim it down or can i turn them on for a bit during the day? Thank you for your time and hope you can get to the questions. Have a great week.
We are supposed to get our very first Axolotl‘s Tuesday do you happen to have the link to the sponge filters I just want to make sure we get the right ones?
Should u always use the sponge filter for the axolotl. Also my tank has been cloudy for no reason even after cleaning , but I read that using a tank for the first time will cause that and it will go away is that true? 👍
My axolotl has a pellet diet because he refuses to eat worms and I have a sponge filter and two otb filters and it's still awful! How often do you rinse the filters?
I have a golden albino like lolly. I got 2 and was told they cant breed because of their genetics being so different they wont reproduce. Mine are going be hitting mature age in a month or 2 and because of the size difference i believe one is a girl and one is a boy. The shop i got them from doesnt specialize in axis but reptiles so I'm not sure if what they said is accurate.Should i separate them? Theyve lived together since i got them when they were pinky sized and will cuddle up to eachother frequently so i'd feel kinda bad seperating them from their friend but of course will ifthey might breed together, which i don' want to happen.
Hi Frankie, looking at getting back into keeping Axolotl's after a long break. I live in New Zealand and may need to look at getting an Axolotl from outside my district. Do you have any advice for transporting them over distances by car that wouldn't stress them to much. Also how should they be packaged for the journey? Thanks.
Morning Phil, Pleased to read you are considering keeping axolotls once again. They do make marvelous companions, I'm sure you'd agree! Transporting axolotls doesn't have to be at all tricky, if you can purchase 'fish bags' which are used to transport and sell fish, they work a charm! Might I suggest to always double bag your bags, just to eliminate any accidents should one of the two bags spring a leak. I sure hope this helps! Kindest of regards, Frankie 😁🌟

Hello! I have been binge watching your videos and they're great! Keep them coming! I have a few questions considering filters. I have a cannister filter that uses a spray bar. The outflow is aimed upwards and at the tank wall. I also have tall, fake aquarium plants to disrupt flow even more so. Is there a way to show us what good flow vs. bad flow is for an Axolotl? I'm still cycling and preparing a home and don't want to stress it out.

I really hope you see this comment lol I just recently transferred my axolotl into a 55gal aquarium... I had an internal filter and a sponge filter in it while it was cycling... but the flow of the internal filter was far to high, so once I transferred her to the new tank, I took the internal filter out and just left the sponge filter. I do clean poop as I see it, however the sponge filter I got is rated for a 40gal breeder tank... I ordered a second one (I like the ones that suction because she used to drag the the sponge filters to the middle of the tank in her old aquarium)... would it be necessary to have a second one??
