I wasn't looking for London tourist advice, but for some reason UA-cam suggested your video. I'm pretty fortunate to live in central London and can say as a resident your insights and recommendations to people visiting are spot on! Just wanted to mention.

When I was in London 2 weeks ago (my first time visiting) I stayed in Southwark area (very close to Tate Modern) then I went to France for a few days and came back to London and stayed in South Kensington area (near Victoria and Albert museum and The Natural History museum). Pretty happy with both areas. ❤🌼

I already booked a room at the Leonardo at St. Paul's. I'll go with my granddaughter (11) and we'll walk as much as possible.

I stayed in Covent Garden at The Strand Palace and it was inexpensive and right by the ME Hotel where my friends stayed with their much higher budgets. I really liked it and while it wasn't luxury it had everything I need. And I LOVED being in Covent Garden. As a vegan I found it perfect as there were restaurants to eat at and we could walk to most places we wanted to visit.

@The Lalantia and Katie Show The Strand Palace is a great place to stay in London. Central location, all the necessary amenities and a history to boot. We went executive level which gave us perks including use of a separate restaurant. But for where the hotel is, the price is very reasonable. And only minutes from the sights. 😀

I just got back from London last week. We stayed in Southwark steps from the London Bridge tube station and it was so convenient for getting around town. The London Bridge tube station is super busy during peak rush hour but London’s tube system is so organized even during the busy times it was a breeze. We were also steps from Borough market and ate there several times.

I lived in Covent Garden for 10 years, right on Drury Lane. Honestly, it's overpriced, overcrowded and a rip off for tourists. The market sells antiques, not always genuine, on Monday, and the rest of the week it's things that look cute that you can buy elsewhere for less. Expensive and crowded restaurants and hotels.

It's always great to hear the real stories. Good thing I'm only going to be in London for 4 days and I'm traveling light. I'm always looking for a good place to eat coming from a local. Or the must sees in London. I appreciate your help.

Why did you live there for 10 years if you hated it so much? Lol. Plus, living there is different than staying for a short period. This video is for tourists :) And there are great places if you are open minded and know what to look for.

    • @mscott3918

Love and London I didn't say I hated it, just that it was a rip off for tourists. As it happens I worked fairly locally and had inherited a nice apartment there, so the LOL is on you really. In 10 years I did find nice places, but it was cheaper away from the Covent Garden area. If tourists are on a budget, surely it's better that they know that. I don't think £5 or more for, say, a Cornish pasty at the pasty shop in Covent Garden is going to be good value for money if a family of 4 or 5 wants them. Outside Covent Garden food and drink tend to be cheaper. For a snack lunch the Tesco supermarket in Bedford Street has sandwiches and salads at good prices, or the Marks and Spencer food hall on Long Acre. The branch of Paul in Bedford Street has nice snacks too. I don't believe that our tourist friends should be ripped off and I don't suppose you want that either, do you? It gives a bad impression of the UK, and it is better to know the truth before coming here. Then decisions can be made on all the information available. Yes being resident is different to passing through, but no one should be a target for profiteering. I was grateful for the advice of my American friends when I first visited New York about 40 years ago. Despite reports to the contrary, we welcome our American friends and want them to see the best that we have to offer. Not everyone has an unlimited budget, some need to be careful, and I would hope that we would all want them to make the best of their time with us and leave with happy memories, not thinking that it's a great place but all they want is the American dollar.

We are staying (beginning of April) near the Earls Court and Gloucester Stations. First time back to London in about 15 years. Not sure what area that is called, Kensington? Love the fact that we are on 3 Main lines that will almost take everywhere we want to go. Wife likes the fact we are only a 30 minute walk to Harrods..... I advised her that she must leave all credit cards in the hotel safe prior to going shopping at Harrods!

How far do which to stay as staying within the surrounding counties like Essex,Cambridgeshire, Oxfordshire and Kent are what is known as the commuter belt and are usually within a hour maximum on a train into the heart of London. Cities like Canterbury in Kent home to the Archbishop of Canterbury head of the Anglican Church is a great quaint city that is close to London and not as expensive as staying in London while still being insanely close to it as it's in Kent which is a county where some of the county is also part of London. Southend is also a nice place and the difference is that Southend is a seaside town where there is a very quintessential British vibe with all the arcades and promenade. Southend is also close to the heart of London as Southend is roughly 45 mins by car and a similar amount by train and like Canterbury is home to a university so is very hip and cosmopolitan while still possessing period charm in the form of its architecture.

Ny Hanjara Randriakoto Westminster and Pimlico are great areas to stay. Lots of small hotels and bigger, more expensive ones like the fabulous Goring. Interesting shops, good transport links and ideal for Westminster Abbey, Westminster Cathedral, Tate Gallery, Buckingham Palace and Whitehall.
