Since I am a computer security professional, I always wondered what others thought about that movie since it mostly avoids technical jargon and has a very surprising ending. It could also 'Scare the ' out of someone trying to do the right thing.
@@Weiselberry The concept is very popular in the espionage arena and there is a Wiki on the 'Spanish Prisoner' scam. I learned about it as a freshman in college when I took a class required to complete a security clearance. Now I do computer security as a professional and the concept still appears, but modernized for Email rather than the 'Snail Male' used 30 to 40 years ago. The movie changes it up some and does it face-to-face with a naive person.

Great character-driven review. In a James Cameron movie, people tend to pay more attention to the spectacle, which in this movie is spectacular. But the reason that Terminator, T2, Aliens and Titanic stand as four of the greatest movies of all time is not merely technology or special effects, it is because they are well-written, character-driven stories. Movies are still a form of story telling, and the story you are telling matters more than any other factor. James Cameron is a great writer and story teller, and that's why these movies stand the test of time. I also wanted to say "Thanks" for your earlier review of "Colossus: The Forbin Project." Based on your recommendation I watched it and really enjoyed it. It is amazing how far ahead of its time (1970!) "Colossus" was.
Great and thoughtful review of character. I'm glad you liked two of my favourite franchises: Terminator and Alien. I've seen all of these films in the movie theatre. I remember how exciting T2 was and how on the edge of my seat I was by the end of Aliens.
Miss Jerome Weiselberry, I write to recommend another extended directors cut Sam Fullers Big Red One for the amount of trivia buried here. I've long been obsessed by men who landed in Normandy on D day and now as a veteran, I recognize there are stories that need to be remembered.
I was going to bring up The X-Files! Doggett is my favorite character in the series, Robert Patrick hit it out of the park. I also really love Agent Reyes. Season 8 is my favorite of the series for introducing Doggett and Reyes while also giving Scully the role of mentor and paranormal believer. The return of Mulder midway through also gives a lot of wonderful moments between Doggett and Mulder. My favorite episode of the entire series is the season 9 episode titled "Improbable" which features some musical numbers, sees Doggett, Reyes, and Scully in top form and also has Burt Reynolds shaking his tuchus at the camera.
S.M. Stirling wrote a trilogy that follows this film. I haven't read it, but it apparently features the Austrian commando who was the physical template for the Terminators :). Also try to find the graphic novel Robocop vs. The Terminator by Frank Miller and Walter Simonson. That was excellent, believe it or not.
Great review! As a side note, the sci/fi author Harlan Ellison sued James Cameron and won royalties and ending credit… the basis being key elements were taken from the scifi show The Outer Limits - The Soldier and The Demon with a Glass Hand. Also, Ellison also wrote the short called I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream which presents the idea of an artificial intelligence like ‘Skynet.’ I believe this story also predates the DF Jones Colossus idea but I’m not too clear on that point.
Thanks! "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" was published in 1967, but Ellison wrote it in 1966, same year that Colossus came out, so I'm not sure who broke ground on that idea. I did know about the suit against Cameron, which led to the insertion of a "with acknowledgement of the works of..." title card in the first film (against Cameron's wishes, as he insisted he was not influenced by anything Ellison wrote).
With so many science fiction movies out there it's interesting how the terminator movies still hold up and even had a short lived show.I got to catch the extended version and feel I liked it better even though it seemed to resolve the franchise.
Congrats on the Weyland-Yutani tee, though for me it's still all about just the first two movies. Sort of how I feel about the Terminator movies, too. I wish Brad Fiedel could have done a lot more music than simply the Terminators, though his work for True Lies is fun.
There's so much I could say about this! T2 was one of my favorite movies growing up! What made Sarah's arc so brilliant is that it's a natural reaction to learning "The world is going to end, this is what causes it but no one is listening!", that feral panic is one of desperation to protect herself, to be ready to fight hundreds of machines when just a single one destroyed her life. Imagine having experienced humanities destroyer and labeled a nutjob. I think this might have the most "editor weiselberry" cut-ins! You'll be eating dinner in a week and think of something else to say! lol.
Thanks Miss Weiselberry. I really enjoyed your idiosyncratic review. I think you bring out an important aspect of this tale: the scientist is a decent man who only seeks to help humanity. However, we are shown that the road to Hell is so often paved with good intentions.
I LOVE what you said about how this movie is "what you want in a sequel". In this era of Hollywood's obsession with franchises, perpetual reboots, retcons, spin-offs, "universe"-building, etc., all in pursuit of the almighty dollar, there are so very few truly satisfying sequels in my opinion. I think a really great sequel seeks to expand (and I don't mean "bigger", necessarily) on the themes, story and characters of its predecessor in a way that makes sense, without negating what came before, and, hopefully, going deeper according to an organic progression. I also agree that it's great when a sequel subtly echoes the vibe or certain details of a previous film without descending into cheap fan service, on-the-nose call-backs, or replaying what is basically the same story all over again. "Terminator 2" is a perfect example of a great sequel, as is "Aliens", and I think, "Blade Runner 2049" and "Mad Max Fury Road". Sadly, they're few and far between.
Thanks for showing love for Robert Patrick in The X-Files. My favorite seasons were 3-5 (and maybe some of 6), but if you absolutely had to replace Duchovny, RP was a great choice. T2 is an absolute classic I love this film forever!
Robert Patrick is always watchable and easy to identify, but the chameleon like actor, Jenette Goldstein is more like a T1000. She was Private Vasquez in Aliens, the step mom, Janelle Voight in T2 and an Irish mom in Titanic.
Robert Patrick is a true Cameleon actor. I've seen most of his films, and believe me, he plays a wide variety of roles that are completely different in look and acting.
I think finding a more interesting and thoughtful review of Terminator 2 than this one would be a very tough task. Whenever I think about my favourite action films or action films in general T2 isn’t one I think about, not because it’s not a great film, it is, I like it a lot, I think It doesn’t enter my mind because to me if feels more than an action film, for some reason the term action film places it in a box I don’t picture it in and it’s probably due to some of the things you’ve talked about here, the character development and story is what has stuck with me much more than the action elements, it’s much deeper than a lot give it credit for, great reference to Colossus : The Forbin Project, Cameron must’ve been influenced by it. I probably would put T2 on a list of favourite science fiction films. Robert Patrick was great in it, he also played a bad guy in a film called The Faculty (1998) and I thought he was good in that too, the film is inspired by Invasion of the Body Snatchers but set in a High School, I think I remember liking it when I saw it. It took me a little while to take to Agent Doggett because i was a Mulder fan and felt like I identified more with his character ( not sure what that says about me lol ) I remember an episode where we see some of Mulders childhood and he was dressed as Spock, Spock fan?!? “ I get ya Mulder “ although for a Spock fan his logic could be iffy lol, Police : this victim was found in her apartment with all doors and windows locked from the inside. Mulder points to a tiny grate on the wall, Mulder : obviously the killer stretched his limbs and squeezed through that tiny gap. Police : Say what? show me your identification again lol. I do like Doggett a lot though, he did bring a real and identifiable humanity to the series. ~ Hasta la vista Ms Weiselberry, and thank you ~
Thanks for yet another fine review, this time of one those movies that stands alongside its predecessor as one of my ten personal favorites. It's just a special film with so much artistry and technical wizardry wrapped up in a much more sublime script than its usually given credit for.

I'm so glad you focused on character and story and not about the make-up and/or visual effects, which has been discussed all too often. This is SUCH a well-observed, delineated review! (I dare say, so smart it, uh, smarts! ;-7 To me, I was very struck by a certain "beauty and the beast"-ish undercurrent at times. I saw this, too and in parallel, as a story about some of the raw, brute "primal" forces of the male being growing and maturing, engaging and learning "balance", forming into fully-rounded adulthood; really a tale about fatherhood (an interesting contrast to TERMINATOR and, more emphatically, ALIENS in their dealing with the strong power of motherhood). In this film, the terminator becomes "a person", humanized, an ideal father figure, willing to go to the mat to protect family in a kind of ultimate, even archetypal (idealized) male role-model way. Maybe that is old-fashioned" to a "t", but I think this film (as with a lot of the better SF) often digs into "eternals/primal motifs", mythic social/personal structures and archetypes in a hugely relatable way. Of course, not saying anything new, other than that this film (and some of Cameron's other films) are often more finally honed in this direction, in terms of human relationships---about PEOPLE--- we care about, than the traditional run of SF.. Glad you mentioned Linda's twin sister! ---she helped realize a truly wonderful illusion in one of the shots you touch on.

T2 was my first theatrical experience. I was 9, and my uncle took the family to see it. I was so pumped being one of the youngest amongst teenage cousins. I’ll never forget how bombastic and truly cinematic this movie feels. I can’t find a movie that brings me close to that experience, and that’s okay. I really dig your questions about the outcome affecting John’s existence. If you have those questions about the future outcome of T2- “ Terminator: Dark Fate” sends you in a different following the events of T2. 🖖🏽
@@amalgamated6448, it was the same, just the names have changed and men were evil. But I'm a Terminator fanboy, I will watch it. The worst was T3, not Salvation as everyone says. The story of T3 though was solid.
8:00 - the Terminator being sentient is an interesting piece about consciousness. The Terminators "after work" come back home and Skynet erases their memories, cause it doesn't wanna deal with it.

If you like behind the scenes information, I highly recommend seeking out the special editions of this movie, because the behind the scenes features and commentary are very interesting. I know you said you don't have any interest in the sequels, but I would recommend at least watching Terminator Salvation. It's a VERY flawed movie, to be sure. And I can't get into specifics about those flaws without spoilers. So I won't. But the effects, cinematography, and action are great. The characters are surprisingly compelling. And Anton Yelchin is absolutely pitch perfect as a young Kyle Reese/Michael Beihn
I remember back in the day my friends and I were so excited to see this at the movies with the big screen and everything. as there was a big build up to it. And it did not disappoint and one of those perfect "big screen" films and it lived up to the hype. It was one of those "perfect" action, sci-fi films from the 90s and the soundtrack was pretty good too. My friend actually worked at the movie theatre so I was able to see it again as well for free. Your review brought on some definite nostalgia. Anyhow, great review as always and loved your thoughts and commentary!
T 2 could NEVER have the element of surprises that T1 had, because of course by the time of 2nd or even 3rd films are released, we now know the returning characters, nothing is ever the same twice in this sense. nothing can beat that first reveal of the "Endo skeleton" emerging from the flames, and you see a new danger, no wonder the thing is so hard to destroy, there's also night vision & voice simulation. Cameron never wanted to do a sequel, but was worried that if he didnt someone else would, i was impressed by the way the 2nd film had a different emphasis from the 1st being- the threat of nuclear war, as opposed to the original which focused on the dangers of new technology more the 3rd terminator is worth a watch there being a female machine which is able to hack & infect ANY computer on the planet also that film was...ballsy for its out come without being depressing. a fitting end
I saw this after returning from the Gulf War. That film, Robin Hood , Prince of Thieves and point Break really stick out in my memory . . . . Implacability is not a fault, it is all about how it is used . . . .
I have seen nearly all the Terminator movies (except Dark Fate) and in my opinion the sequels after T2 struggle with new ideas and just seem to end up re-trashing old ones. I was thinking in the same lines as Jerome Weiselberry - what if John Conner realised that if 2 terminators and Karl aren't sent back in time - the original events that lead to Judgement Day would become reality and John be a different person with a different father.
Well done once again!! I recently watched Problem Child (1990) with my dad. John Ritter plays a genuinely nice guy surrounded by people who are just completely full of themselves. It's very comical. Way more laughs than the sequel. Hey thanks again for the reviews and take care 👍📽️📼👍

As we learned in Avengers: Endgame, going back to the past and altering things creates alternative timelines. That's why John Connor was still born regardless of the future war being averted.
That's a great Terminator/Aliens juxtaposition you gave there. Awesome breakdown of T2. You rock. I like T2 better as well, like I prefer Aliens to Alien. All 4 are total classics, though, and each should have ended after part 2.
Funny you say that, because Alien 3 is actually my favorite. Perhaps the Alien universe should have been broadened past Ellen Ripley, though, whereas Terminator was resolved with the second film.

After watching this review, I bought the film on Apple TV watched the movie, though the theatrical cut and now I have a newfound appreciation of Terminator 2. Sure I loved the first one for it’s neo-noir and horror-esque structure, but this one was infinitely better. It just has its own charm that makes it different from the first film. Jerome, I really enjoyed this review and I give you credit for officially making me a bigger fan of the first two Terminator films. Great job!

Very good review - you touched my fuzzy, little heart. However, the "I'll be back" was a little weak - sorry. Not much more to add. I think I agree with about 99% of what you said - maybe 100%. I don't like mindless action movies either. I want a story and good characters. I loved this movie when I saw it in the theater and still love it now. I also agree that this is the superior movie. This franchise is similar to the Alien franchise for many reasons - nice shirt by the way. The first movies for both are definitely different in tone from their second one. And obviously, you can't have sequels without the first one, and that needs to be good to generate interest - scratch that - there are some bad franchises out there. Anyway, both franchise have a superior second movie (in my opinion) and go downhill from there. Although, all of the sequels aren't terrible.

Too young to see the first (Yep, your parents pretty much dictated when you could and could not see at the movies and it was an R Cert), I was 18 when T2 came out and just about to go to college in the fall. So much anticipation for it. A fantastic movie....amazing this flick is over 30 years old.
Sadly I think less of it as time goes on. I think the first is incredible because of the sense of quiet menace and all the carnage and the tightness of the script and pacing, the second is a lot more cartoony and overwrought than I think a lot of people give notice to. The first has lines that were made into catchphrases later, but the second gives me the feeling it wants you to parrot these lines, which is the difference between a truly quotable movie and a movie I cringe when people quote. This all goes along with my hatred of making Arnold into a family friendly, whiny kid's toy. I don't think it's earned or compelling but I respect the reasoning you gave. I do love Robert Patrick and Linda Hamilton a lot in this, if the whole movie felt as serious as "Call to John" and contained less of John's smugness or explosions or Arnold's character assassination lol, I'd probably appreciate it a lot more, but everything else I just think it's the biggest step down from the beautiful simplicity of T1.
I first saw T2 when I was 11, when it came out, and I remember thinking Edward Furlong was so cute, tough and bad-ass and I actually thought he was a number of years older than me because no way could a boy my age be like that - he was practically a man! Then, I didn't see the movie again for quite a while, as I watched T1 after T2, (I'd been too young to see it on release) and it quickly became my preferred film and the one I rewatched. So, fast forward to me being an adult and deciding to re-watch T2 with just the tweenage memories of it - and oh, boy! When I beheld what a foetus Edward is in the film and his squeaky voice, I just couldn't stop laughing. The illusions of tween me were well and truly shattered. I still really enjoy the movie and have watched it a few times since, but I still can't get past that aspect.
If time travel's possible then it's to an alternate past, not your past. That would make Skynet's plan pointless, because it would be changing an alternate present, not its own.

I know this new adaptation of Persuasion is very controversial in the Jane Austen community.
Wow! No, I didn't know. That's a lot of videos. It wasn't on my radar at all, so I don't have anything special planned. Oof, that Persuasion. Yikes. I don't have Netflix, so I don't have access to it, and that's a handy excuse because I actually have no interest in seeing it. The trailer was a mess, and while it was possible there was false advertising going on (to make the movie look like a comedy), it sounds like that was not the case and the film is even worse than the trailer suggested. Based on what people who have seen it said about watered-down dialogue, unrecognizable characterizations, lack of chemistry, and poor storytelling, it sounds like Persuasion in name only and an insult to anyone who loves the book. It would probably be good for my channel numbers to make a video about it while it's trending, but I just don't want to. :)
If the same effort and thought were put into the sequels after the first 2, that would of been great. I think James Cameron was too busy with Titanic and Avatar. If he were involved more, the other sequels, would of been better? Have you seen the later sequels? Although, I think you may have hinted that you have and don't think much of them?

And unfortunately, Leslie Hamilton Freas, who was Linda Hamilton's twin sister died on August 22, 2020. She was 63. May she rest in peace. Yes, Terminator 2 was excellent in story, character and above all, the action. I would probably list my favorite action movies as follows and all so very close. 4 being Raiders Of The Lost Ark, 3 being Aliens, 2 being Terminator 2 along with the original as 2 B. My #1 however was and still is Die Hard. They just don't make them like they used to. Once in a great great while, yes they still do. Daniel Craig's 5 series James Bond and James Nolen's trilogy on The Dark Knight starting with Batman Begins are all top notch. (Darn, thinking I will have to relist). Again, the story, written by adults, character (what's that, and believe me Die Hard has character in abundance), and non stop action. Unfortunately Die Hard has those colorful words in abundance also especially the iconic "yippee-ki-yay" fill in the blank. Yes, it does have an f in it. Also, it is bloody, very bloody, but you should give this a try, Bruce Willis who got the role by luck because Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and even Burt Reynolds were asked to do the role and they turned the role down. It also has the late, great Alan Rickman, and the surprise character of Sargeant Al Powell by Reginald VelJohnson made this movie shine. Ok, my new list: 1. Die Hard 2. Terminator 2 3. Batman Begins 4. Casino Royale 5. Aliens 6. Raiders Of The Lost Ark Die Hard still #1 as the originator of action, action, story, and full character development especially between Reginald VelJohnson and Bruce Willis. I find Cameron films (now that I am older) as good entertainment but lacking depth. I think they were always aimed at younger audiences. I know Cameron was a huge George Lucas fan so it sort of makes sense. I think Titanic was one of the most spectacular films ever made but lacking in the script department. Awesome effects all round though
While you may not want to see another sequel to Terminator, I think that if a studio can squeeze money out of an audience and get them to buy popcorn. . .or whatever, they're gonna do it anyway. Good video, though.
YES! My fav action movie! Disagree on Furlong. He was so perfectly cast as the '90s punk, it was like watching every '90s punk I knew, on screen. They could not have captured that type more accurately.

The original Outer Limits handles the time travel conundrum in “The Man Who Was Never Born” - with an even sadder/darker ending.

Fun fact: the twins in this movie were also in Gremlins 2 as scientists.

I was going to bring up The X-Files! Doggett is my favorite character in the series, Robert Patrick hit it out of the park.
I also really love Agent Reyes.
Season 8 is my favorite of the series for introducing Doggett and Reyes while also giving Scully the role of mentor and paranormal believer.
The return of Mulder midway through also gives a lot of wonderful moments between Doggett and Mulder.
My favorite episode of the entire series is the season 9 episode titled "Improbable" which features some musical numbers, sees Doggett, Reyes, and Scully in top form and also has Burt Reynolds shaking his tuchus at the camera.
S.M. Stirling wrote a trilogy that follows this film. I haven't read it, but it apparently features the Austrian commando who was the physical template for the Terminators :).
Also try to find the graphic novel Robocop vs. The Terminator by Frank Miller and Walter Simonson. That was excellent, believe it or not.

Great review! As a side note, the sci/fi author Harlan Ellison sued James Cameron and won royalties and ending credit… the basis being key elements were taken from the scifi show The Outer Limits - The Soldier and The Demon with a Glass Hand. Also, Ellison also wrote the short called I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream which presents the idea of an artificial intelligence like ‘Skynet.’ I believe this story also predates the DF Jones Colossus idea but I’m not too clear on that point.
Thanks! "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream" was published in 1967, but Ellison wrote it in 1966, same year that Colossus came out, so I'm not sure who broke ground on that idea. I did know about the suit against Cameron, which led to the insertion of a "with acknowledgement of the works of..." title card in the first film (against Cameron's wishes, as he insisted he was not influenced by anything Ellison wrote).

With so many science fiction movies out there it's interesting how the terminator movies still hold up and even had a short lived show.I got to catch the extended version and feel I liked it better even though it seemed to resolve the franchise.
Congrats on the Weyland-Yutani tee, though for me it's still all about just the first two movies. Sort of how I feel about the Terminator movies, too. I wish Brad Fiedel could have done a lot more music than simply the Terminators, though his work for True Lies is fun.

There's so much I could say about this! T2 was one of my favorite movies growing up! What made Sarah's arc so brilliant is that it's a natural reaction to learning "The world is going to end, this is what causes it but no one is listening!", that feral panic is one of desperation to protect herself, to be ready to fight hundreds of machines when just a single one destroyed her life. Imagine having experienced humanities destroyer and labeled a nutjob.
I think this might have the most "editor weiselberry" cut-ins! You'll be eating dinner in a week and think of something else to say! lol.

Thanks Miss Weiselberry. I really enjoyed your idiosyncratic review. I think you bring out an important aspect of this tale: the scientist is a decent man who only seeks to help humanity. However, we are shown that the road to Hell is so often paved with good intentions.
I LOVE what you said about how this movie is "what you want in a sequel". In this era of Hollywood's obsession with franchises, perpetual reboots, retcons, spin-offs, "universe"-building, etc., all in pursuit of the almighty dollar, there are so very few truly satisfying sequels in my opinion. I think a really great sequel seeks to expand (and I don't mean "bigger", necessarily) on the themes, story and characters of its predecessor in a way that makes sense, without negating what came before, and, hopefully, going deeper according to an organic progression. I also agree that it's great when a sequel subtly echoes the vibe or certain details of a previous film without descending into cheap fan service, on-the-nose call-backs, or replaying what is basically the same story all over again. "Terminator 2" is a perfect example of a great sequel, as is "Aliens", and I think, "Blade Runner 2049" and "Mad Max Fury Road". Sadly, they're few and far between.

Thanks for showing love for Robert Patrick in The X-Files. My favorite seasons were 3-5 (and maybe some of 6), but if you absolutely had to replace Duchovny, RP was a great choice.

I consider myself a sci-fi/horror movie buff, but you rocked my world with the Colossus connection. I bow to you.
Robert Patrick is always watchable and easy to identify, but the chameleon like actor, Jenette Goldstein is more like a T1000. She was Private Vasquez in Aliens, the step mom, Janelle Voight in T2 and an Irish mom in Titanic.
Robert Patrick is a true Cameleon actor. I've seen most of his films, and believe me, he plays a wide variety of roles that are completely different in look and acting.
I think finding a more interesting and thoughtful review of Terminator 2 than this one would be a very tough task. Whenever I think about my favourite action films or action films in general T2 isn’t one I think about, not because it’s not a great film, it is, I like it a lot, I think It doesn’t enter my mind because to me if feels more than an action film, for some reason the term action film places it in a box I don’t picture it in and it’s probably due to some of the things you’ve talked about here, the character development and story is what has stuck with me much more than the action elements, it’s much deeper than a lot give it credit for, great reference to Colossus : The Forbin Project, Cameron must’ve been influenced by it. I probably would put T2 on a list of favourite science fiction films. Robert Patrick was great in it, he also played a bad guy in a film called The Faculty (1998) and I thought he was good in that too, the film is inspired by Invasion of the Body Snatchers but set in a High School, I think I remember liking it when I saw it. It took me a little while to take to Agent Doggett because i was a Mulder fan and felt like I identified more with his character ( not sure what that says about me lol ) I remember an episode where we see some of Mulders childhood and he was dressed as Spock, Spock fan?!? “ I get ya Mulder “ although for a Spock fan his logic could be iffy lol, Police : this victim was found in her apartment with all doors and windows locked from the inside. Mulder points to a tiny grate on the wall, Mulder : obviously the killer stretched his limbs and squeezed through that tiny gap. Police : Say what? show me your identification again lol. I do like Doggett a lot though, he did bring a real and identifiable humanity to the series.

To me, I was very struck by a certain "beauty and the beast"-ish undercurrent at times. I saw this, too and in parallel, as a story about some of the raw, brute "primal" forces of the male being growing and maturing, engaging and learning "balance", forming into fully-rounded adulthood; really a tale about fatherhood (an interesting contrast to TERMINATOR and, more emphatically, ALIENS in their dealing with the strong power of motherhood). In this film, the terminator becomes "a person", humanized, an ideal father figure, willing to go to the mat to protect family in a kind of ultimate, even archetypal (idealized) male role-model way. Maybe that is old-fashioned" to a "t", but I think this film (as with a lot of the better SF) often digs into "eternals/primal motifs", mythic social/personal structures and archetypes in a hugely relatable way. Of course, not saying anything new, other than that this film (and some of Cameron's other films) are often more finally honed in this direction, in terms of human relationships---about PEOPLE--- we care about, than the traditional run of SF..
Glad you mentioned Linda's twin sister! ---she helped realize a truly wonderful illusion in one of the shots you touch on.

T2 was my first theatrical experience. I was 9, and my uncle took the family to see it. I was so pumped being one of the youngest amongst teenage cousins. I’ll never forget how bombastic and truly cinematic this movie feels. I can’t find a movie that brings me close to that experience, and that’s okay. I really dig your questions about the outcome affecting John’s existence. If you have those questions about the future outcome of T2- “ Terminator: Dark Fate” sends you in a different following the events of T2. 🖖🏽

The worst was T3, not Salvation as everyone says. The story of T3 though was solid.
8:00 - the Terminator being sentient is an interesting piece about consciousness. The Terminators "after work" come back home and Skynet erases their memories, cause it doesn't wanna deal with it.

I know you said you don't have any interest in the sequels, but I would recommend at least watching Terminator Salvation.
It's a VERY flawed movie, to be sure.
And I can't get into specifics about those flaws without spoilers. So I won't.
But the effects, cinematography, and action are great. The characters are surprisingly compelling. And Anton Yelchin is absolutely pitch perfect as a young Kyle Reese/Michael Beihn
I remember back in the day my friends and I were so excited to see this at the movies with the big screen and everything. as there was a big build up to it. And it did not disappoint and one of those perfect "big screen" films and it lived up to the hype. It was one of those "perfect" action, sci-fi films from the 90s and the soundtrack was pretty good too. My friend actually worked at the movie theatre so I was able to see it again as well for free. Your review brought on some definite nostalgia. Anyhow, great review as always and loved your thoughts and commentary!
T 2 could NEVER have the element of surprises that T1 had, because of course by the time of 2nd or even 3rd films are released, we now know the returning characters, nothing is ever the same twice in this sense.
nothing can beat that first reveal of the "Endo skeleton" emerging from the flames, and you see a new danger, no wonder the thing is so hard to destroy, there's also night vision & voice simulation.
Cameron never wanted to do a sequel, but was worried that if he didnt someone else would, i was impressed by the way the 2nd film had a different emphasis from the 1st being- the threat of nuclear war, as opposed to the original which focused on the dangers of new technology more
the 3rd terminator is worth a watch there being a female machine which is able to hack & infect ANY computer on the planet also that film was...ballsy for its out come without being depressing. a fitting end

I saw this after returning from the Gulf War. That film, Robin Hood , Prince of Thieves and point Break really stick out in my memory . . . .
Implacability is not a fault, it is all about how it is used . . . .
I have seen nearly all the Terminator movies (except Dark Fate) and in my opinion the sequels after T2 struggle with new ideas and just seem to end up re-trashing old ones. I was thinking in the same lines as Jerome Weiselberry - what if John Conner realised that if 2 terminators and Karl aren't sent back in time - the original events that lead to Judgement Day would become reality and John be a different person with a different father.

As we learned in Avengers: Endgame, going back to the past and altering things creates alternative timelines. That's why John Connor was still born regardless of the future war being averted.

I like T2 better as well, like I prefer Aliens to Alien. All 4 are total classics, though, and each should have ended after part 2.
Funny you say that, because Alien 3 is actually my favorite. Perhaps the Alien universe should have been broadened past Ellen Ripley, though, whereas Terminator was resolved with the second film.

After watching this review, I bought the film on Apple TV watched the movie, though the theatrical cut and now I have a newfound appreciation of Terminator 2. Sure I loved the first one for it’s neo-noir and horror-esque structure, but this one was infinitely better. It just has its own charm that makes it different from the first film. Jerome, I really enjoyed this review and I give you credit for officially making me a bigger fan of the first two Terminator films. Great job!

Very good review - you touched my fuzzy, little heart. However, the "I'll be back" was a little weak - sorry. Not much more to add. I think I agree with about 99% of what you said - maybe 100%. I don't like mindless action movies either. I want a story and good characters. I loved this movie when I saw it in the theater and still love it now. I also agree that this is the superior movie. This franchise is similar to the Alien franchise for many reasons - nice shirt by the way. The first movies for both are definitely different in tone from their second one. And obviously, you can't have sequels without the first one, and that needs to be good to generate interest - scratch that - there are some bad franchises out there. Anyway, both franchise have a superior second movie (in my opinion) and go downhill from there. Although, all of the sequels aren't terrible.
I love this movie.. Thanks for the review! The Stanton twins who played the security guard and the T-1000 camouflage went to high school in my hometown of Reedley, CA. I didn't even know that until the dad of a friend of mine had informed me. Showed me the high school yearbook and everything.

Too young to see the first (Yep, your parents pretty much dictated when you could and could not see at the movies and it was an R Cert), I was 18 when T2 came out and just about to go to college in the fall. So much anticipation for it. A fantastic movie....amazing this flick is over 30 years old.
Great shirt for the T2 movie review. Confuses folks. Terminator versus Alien versus Predator would have made a great movie.
Sadly I think less of it as time goes on. I think the first is incredible because of the sense of quiet menace and all the carnage and the tightness of the script and pacing, the second is a lot more cartoony and overwrought than I think a lot of people give notice to. The first has lines that were made into catchphrases later, but the second gives me the feeling it wants you to parrot these lines, which is the difference between a truly quotable movie and a movie I cringe when people quote. This all goes along with my hatred of making Arnold into a family friendly, whiny kid's toy. I don't think it's earned or compelling but I respect the reasoning you gave. I do love Robert Patrick and Linda Hamilton a lot in this, if the whole movie felt as serious as "Call to John" and contained less of John's smugness or explosions or Arnold's character assassination lol, I'd probably appreciate it a lot more, but everything else I just think it's the biggest step down from the beautiful simplicity of T1.

The weird thing, that the son send his father back in time, to become his father... It inspired Mr. Shyamalan to make movies.
I first saw T2 when I was 11, when it came out, and I remember thinking Edward Furlong was so cute, tough and bad-ass and I actually thought he was a number of years older than me because no way could a boy my age be like that - he was practically a man! Then, I didn't see the movie again for quite a while, as I watched T1 after T2, (I'd been too young to see it on release) and it quickly became my preferred film and the one I rewatched. So, fast forward to me being an adult and deciding to re-watch T2 with just the tweenage memories of it - and oh, boy! When I beheld what a foetus Edward is in the film and his squeaky voice, I just couldn't stop laughing. The illusions of tween me were well and truly shattered. I still really enjoy the movie and have watched it a few times since, but I still can't get past that aspect.

If time travel's possible then it's to an alternate past, not your past. That would make Skynet's plan pointless, because it would be changing an alternate present, not its own.
Some movie suggestions I would give you to watch are some really good old films The big clock , The night has a thousand eyes with Edward G Robinson.

Oof, that Persuasion. Yikes. I don't have Netflix, so I don't have access to it, and that's a handy excuse because I actually have no interest in seeing it. The trailer was a mess, and while it was possible there was false advertising going on (to make the movie look like a comedy), it sounds like that was not the case and the film is even worse than the trailer suggested. Based on what people who have seen it said about watered-down dialogue, unrecognizable characterizations, lack of chemistry, and poor storytelling, it sounds like Persuasion in name only and an insult to anyone who loves the book. It would probably be good for my channel numbers to make a video about it while it's trending, but I just don't want to. :)

Ripping of Colossus for T2 was Cameron's homage to how he ripped off Harlan Ellison's work in the original Terminator.
And unfortunately, Leslie Hamilton Freas, who was Linda Hamilton's twin sister died on August 22, 2020. She was 63. May she rest in peace.
Yes, Terminator 2 was excellent in story, character and above all, the action. I would probably list my favorite action movies as follows and all so very close. 4 being Raiders Of The Lost Ark, 3 being Aliens, 2 being Terminator 2 along with the original as 2 B. My #1 however was and still is Die Hard. They just don't make them like they used to. Once in a great great while, yes they still do. Daniel Craig's 5 series James Bond and James Nolen's trilogy on The Dark Knight starting with Batman Begins are all top notch. (Darn, thinking I will have to relist).
Again, the story, written by adults, character (what's that, and believe me Die Hard has character in abundance), and non stop action. Unfortunately Die Hard has those colorful words in abundance also especially the iconic "yippee-ki-yay" fill in the blank. Yes, it does have an f in it. Also, it is bloody, very bloody, but you should give this a try, Bruce Willis who got the role by luck because Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and even Burt Reynolds were asked to do the role and they turned the role down. It also has the late, great Alan Rickman, and the surprise character of Sargeant Al Powell by Reginald VelJohnson made this movie shine.

I find Cameron films (now that I am older) as good entertainment but lacking depth. I think they were always aimed at younger audiences. I know Cameron was a huge George Lucas fan so it sort of makes sense. I think Titanic was one of the most spectacular films ever made but lacking in the script department. Awesome effects all round though
I prefer the theatrical version, as the ending fits so much better. T3 might not have been nessessary, but it was a decent Terminator film also.

Terminator 2 is the greatest movie of the 90s. Not the greatest ACTION movie, the greatest movie PERIOD.
While you may not want to see another sequel to Terminator, I think that if a studio can squeeze money out of an audience and get them to buy popcorn. . .or whatever, they're gonna do it anyway. Good video, though.
