  • Tom Tugendhat has pledged to introduce a legally-binding annual cap on net migration of 100,000 if he becomes leader of the Conservative Party.
The former security minister, one of six candidates in the race to replace Rishi Sunak, said high levels of population growth fuelled by immigration could not continue.
Delivering a speech on public services this afternoon, Mr Tugendhat said: “The pressure on housing, on infrastructure and services is just one reason why the Conservative Party under my leadership will commit to a legally-binding annual cap on non-British annual net migration of 100,000.
“We cannot sustain the hundreds of thousands it is today.”

A cap on net migration isn't good enough. We need a cap on gross migration.

So we're not compensating for people who leave our country then? We need skills, mostly domestically earned British skills, but in certain sectors that isn't just so easy, a cap on net migration is far more sensible.

Are we just supposed to listen and believe these people making promises/pledges in the hope that one of them, one day will actually do what they say they will. An honest politician is a rare breed, almost extinct , I would say

Legally binding because if he was PM he couldn’t trust himself to do what he said he would do. Pathetic

@@captainnice1881 No just stupid. If a PM can get a law through Parliament they can just as easily get the repeal of a law through parliament.

    try a quarter of that. . .
for asylum seekers and legal families
and once the asylum backlog is cleared and sorted
then raise it to 50 or 75k a year
Be strong and don't dither about
In the meantime - Reform is clearly thinking the right things. . .

Starts off talking about there being too much state power, then goes on to talk about how he'll expand state power. Status quo tories. Nevermind, I have a party now.

Reduce net migration into Britain England London as important as Trade unions legislation passed by Margaret Thatcher conservative government in 1981 trade Unions Acts and 1984 Trade unions Reform Act. Get England next conservative government in England London Britain say no Union migration pact. Like Pietro Boselli Italian Italy. Italy said no UN migration pact.🇮🇹🇮🇹🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Reform had its time and it resulted in a coup by the Bank of England. Reform simply can't govern with their radical market crashing economics. Truss was Reform at heart and we all know it. Only the Conservatives present pragmatic economic governance.

I generally like Tugendhat but his love for the EU puts me off him. Meanwhile, I like what I hear from Robert Jenrick. He had principles and resigned as Immigration Minister when he realised what Sunak wasn't prepared to back him on tougher policies.

    • @captainnice1881
      @captainnice1881 15 днів тому +1

He doesn't really have a "love for the EU", leaving the EU in 2016 was the not so sensible thing to do, now it's been done with a democratic referendum, that does not mean we should cut all ties with Europe and pretend we now share a border with the United States alone. Tom Tugendhat is pragmatic on Europe, not sensationalist or radical
