Headcanon: The Armorizers (rock dudes) were made by Shockwave in an attempt at making synthetic Energon. However, what resulted were Transformers with metal and minerals fused at the molecular level… albeit with very basic AI. Shockwave assigned the Bouldercrash units to engage in Energon mining, and the Magneous units were assigned to work as Energon purifiers (see their chest cavities; that’s when you put the crystals and have them melted down and reforged into Energon cubes).
Recently, an Autobot infiltrator (Punch/Counterpunch) managed to give a Bouldercrash and a Magneous sentience in order to free them from Decepticon servitude. Horrified by what their brethren were made to do and what they were supporting, the duo joined the Autobots and forged new identities for themselves. Magneous is a cool, steely detective and brawler; Bouldercrash is an excitable, impetuous little lady prone to shouting “Holy [insert thing here]!” when shocked. Their new identities were inspired by an Earth TV show they were shown by Junkion shaman Trashmaster.
Well, we were going to have those Energon monsters in year one of Legacy.

@@PerspectiveEndI LOVE this figure! Such an inventive way to bring back "Rock lord" type bots. Also regarding that Ninja Turtle comment, his headsculpt looks like one of the Foot Soldiers.
Favorite part about magnicrash over here is the Little Rock “wings” on his side. I can just hear him go “mmm, rock wing. fly like bird.” In this really deep and menacing voice. The thought of it actually working too kinda cracks me up

It seems like they're no longer bothering with the weaponizing gimmicks anymore. All the new weaponizors barely turn into an assortment of parts that other figures can use. Also, great to hear a reference to the new Transformers comic. Can we expect a review on that? Maybe after the first 6 issues are released?
I probably should do a review on the comic yes.
And yeah it's so weird they barely partform.
Apparently the feet combine with the "pickaxe" or whatever you called it to form a hammer or battering ram in vehicle mode.
I suspect the proprietary pegs are to give the rock lords a way of only being compatible with each other, as they aren't junkeons. The way the parts come off, taking mass from one part to reinforce others reminds me of a very primative version of Ironman's nanotechnology in infinity war.
It's like that absurd decision of Hasbro to call a dark gray car Bluestreak while calling a mainly blue streaked car Smokescreen 🤷♂️
I thought boulder crash and magneous' names were flipped around until you made the review on Wednesday

The more I look at this guy the more I see him as Bayverse Ironhide with a Rock Lord aesthetic.
I feel like they're probably going to do another combiner with the 'not rock lords'. The only reason why i think so is because of the strange pegs. With his bits vaguely looking like wings, my mind goes to gargoyle being a potential combined form.
I would love a gargoyle.
I like that the head spike crest is uneven like actual rock
I'm imagining the designer getting blazed during the part where he was supposed to design the weaponizer gimmick, then getting the giggles over a "show me ur bobs" meme, and this is where we ended up

I actually just ordered both of them a few days ago and they arrived yesterday. Personally, I'm loving them, I hope the Armorizers keep going, because these guys are super fun and wacky. Hopefully we get a shiny cyan recolor of Magneous like the concept art.
I like it too, I just think it's weird how useless as a partsformer he is.
Looks like post DOTM Ironhide, like this is what they put in his coffin after they cobbled his corpse together.

Well the DEEP LORE is these guys are from the Infernac Universe which is from Inhumanoids. In that series there were a race of dudes called the Granites who were all rock monsters(but good guys). However they were more like Rock Lords as they did kind of transform... into rocks. So I dunno where the Flintstone SUV and Trike idea came from but there ya go.
I think I got it. It's not a weaponizer clearly. But the bits can combine into a hammer. And Bouldercrash turns into a sword? They're Battle Masters. This entire new faction is just more expensive Battle Masters.

Great review PerspectiveEnd!!! I'm not even acknowledging the Armorizer gimmick, since ignoring the gimmick, makes these modern Rock Lords figures surprisingly fun, transforming into stone vehicles. lol :D Keep on being amazing.
I think they could have made what it does at least useful, but I do understand preferring a more normal figure. I never thought I'd make a video Arguing in Favor of this gimmick being a bit more prevalent in a figure.

I clipped the handle thing off the back of my rock motorcycle and now it can use it as a gun that attaches to the underside of the arms and doesn't ruin the robot mode.

Yesterday I went to 8 different stores. So Core Legacy Shockwave is neat. Yes that is all I found after 4 Walmarts, two gamestops, one target, and my local comic shop.

one thing about the plastic and how it's moulded, because it's a negative there are limitations in how you can design the texture of plastic without needing to make 2 parts. all these rock lords could have some internal detailing but it would either need to be very carefully designed to prevent the plastic not getting stuck in it's own mould (and one mistake costs you tens of thousands of dollars because plastic moulds are very expensive) or it would need to be multiple pieces.
In both cases you're looking at a much more expensive figure just to get internal detailing.
It's not perfect, but it's a pick your poison kinda situation.
Those pegs in the legs are designed to peg into the pickaxe thing, which is why they split apart like that. They showed off a big hammer mode you can do with the legs and the pickaxe part.
As weird as he is, I want ALL these rock guys. I love fresh things in Transformers, and these are a good weird, not the bad Fossilizer kind of weird. These are robots WITH rocks, those were just bones pretending to be robots. Now if those were robots covered in bone now we'd be getting somewhere.
we have arrived at the weird point that an upgrade kit is needed to add a piece that convers tabs into pegs so the weaponizing thing could work.

Yabba Dabba Doo! From the new Infernac Universe, it's the Mad Max car, if made by the Flinstones... awesome. Honestly, the names should be switched to fit the Armorizers rock designs. The SUV truck is Bouldercrash, as its name and texture has a rocky-boulder theme and that his accessories can be a battering ram in car mode for it to crash through walls and barriers. While the trike is Magneous, as its name and texture has a magma-lava theme to him.
-I got this rock guy awhile ago. I looked into his "Magneous" name, to cross reference rock name similar to this. And the closes I got is Igneous, a rock that's formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. Which is what obsidian is, thank you Minecraft. So I guess his name is a mash up of magma and igneous.
2:41 Im assuming that means you’ve read it then, and if so what do you think? Im personally loving it. Ive only read up to issue 3 myself, but this is already becoming one of my favorite Primes in a while. The amount of cool shit he’s done while still being caring and compassionate towards earth is amazing. Im also loving the new things they’re doing with the classic humans, its refreshing. And the art style is FANTASTIC. Those panels are gorgeous.
You can create a hammer looking thing by attaching those knee parts to his pickaxe

...Also it's called the Infernac universe and not Igneous because Infernac is the sub-terranean hellish cave domain near the Earth's core where the monsters from the Inhumanoids are from. So it's a very cheeky nod to that.
I don't know why, but I can't help but think that Magnius's arms are a little short, especially when they go out to the side. Maybe they're perfectly fine and I'm just going nuts, but my mind can't help but think they're short!
Also, side note; whenever you say "please give", I always makes me think if this emoji -> 🥺

Nice to hear a reference to the comic. I was cautious of Skybound at first but they’re absolutely knocking it out of the park right now. I *LOVE* their take on Optimus Prime, he’s already in my top five versions of the character. After this last issue I’ve felt compelled to do something I never had before, customize a Transformer. If the new look sticks around I might take the plunge and actually modify one of my Primes to match the comic.
I do like this Optimus alot, I just wish the comic were a little less edgy at times. It's got heartwarming moments to balance it out, but it's a little on the side of All Hail Megatron right now.
@@PerspectiveEnd I get that. If the entire run is this edgy I can see myself getting tired of it, but for the dramatic first act I think it’s alright. Once they start running low on iconic characters they’ll be forced to reign things in at least a little.
I legitimately took a two second look at these the first time they were revealed and though- Motorcycle is magneous, bulker is bouldercrash. But nooooo, we have to have sideswive vs sunstreaker's weapon pack 2.0, don't we?

Current theory, Hasbro is trying to give add-on designers an aneurism, because the only thing they dislike more than third party are third party showing how their toys could be better.
Here's the thing. This is a great platform for upgrade kits. The parts with Proprietary tabs can only work for them now.
That’s pretty much a transformers version of the cars from FlintStones. It’s only a matter of time till we get an actual Fred FlintStone car that transforms.
It would be a cool Crossover.
Now someone has to 3d model a printable adapter, just so the cab, can fit where the shins peg in, to now make it the stone age Batmobile. From what I've heard the empty torso is apparently to represent them being rock creatures and not Cybertronians... I guess to show they have no spark, but it still is an odd choice.

I dipped my toes into Third Party recently, and I’m glad I did. The figure was Morgan’s Ruller (Roller) and it is so good. Posing is great with a ball joint in the torso, sword-wielding wrists that can rotate, toe-down, heel-down, THE MOST SATISFYING KNEE RATCHETS OF ALL TIME, and double jointed elbows. 10/10, please review it, he’s only like $30-50.
I've heard good things about that and have really considered it.
The hole in his chest was on purpose by the design team to make him look like a sparkless monster per the pulse stream he was shown off in. That’s not to say they shouldn’t have sculpted it in there to look cool but that is the reason it is open
They did hint at that these Rocklords are going to have a combine form. But I’m not sure if I’m right about that.
I think I remember mark saying the empty chest was deliberate cos it made them look sparkless?
Was he also trying to sell us a bridge in the same video?

I tried seeing if "magneous" was a class of mineral, but I only found igneous stones and some references to lodestones, and given it's colour they could have punned this one into "Loadstone" and it'd be a great hauler.
As for Boldecrash, I remember seeing a dev in a video say thry were emulating unrefined red quartz, but while that'd make a not-magma name work, Boldercrash is still a weird choice.

Question of the comments. Who is the figure that you have changed your opinion on after you got it in hand? like someone you weren’t excited for in the past but now you think is a great figure. for me, I wasn’t super excited about Lio prime, but then I got him in hand and he pretty good figure.
I think it is called Magneous because it's made of lodestone (a magnetic rock)

Hey perspective, you can tab the shins on a pickaxe and make a hammer, and if you have shadow striker you can use her dwibby gun/ saber and make it into a war hammer, tab the arms onto the the feet and use the other tabs on the other side of the arms to tab into the vechile mode of the rest of the robot mode of magneous, also I like to tab to pretend the pickaxe and the shins come off together off the truck mode and become a solid anti air turret
I think Magneous was originally based on a green Rock Lord but they backed out on that

Hey perspective end here's some nightmarer fuel idea, you know that chest cavity magneus has.... imagine him using that as mouth to eat energon and or other minerals and his chest wheels as a spinning, rotating blades of teeth to help chew and grind up what ever he's eating kinda similar to one of the members DJD team in the IDW comics. 🙂

as somebody who studies production methods and product design,
sculpting the innerds with the same rocky texture would make it quite difficult to remove from the mold. it would probably get stuck.

I mean if they can do internal ribbing they can do at least SOME level of rock texture, and I've seen them do internal sculpting for fun details before. But either way I clearly don't need to explain my self, as you blatantly get it.

Weirdly, I think his parts work better on other *alt-modes* than other bots. Over on Twitter I've made some ridiculous three-ways with him, Axlegrease, and Kaskade (AHEM) that are a lot of fun.
The way this weaponizes HAS to be for a future rock lord combiner. There is no other sane explanation. Maybe they’re trying to keep it a secret so they aren’t telling us? Like how we were initially kind of unsure if Dragstrip would be a combinatorial limb or not.
With the feet popped off, you can actually put them on the pickaxe to make a fairly decent hammer. It's not much, but IMO it's still way better than what the junkions did in the weaponizing aspect.
